  1. I read reviews that said the 1st one had absolutely terrible choreoagraphy for the humans. Thoughts?

I wouldn't call it terrible but it sure wasn't in the rhelm of Appleseed or FF spirits within. Its still pretty cool though. The mecha CG looked better than the humans.

  2. Not seen a fansub around, but you don't need one, there's no story. Basically, it IS Macross Seven, but with the Aquarion gang!

And yeah, the title is technically "Ippatsu..." but the other title in English shown on the packaging reads "Hymn of Triumph", so ignore my previous post, they are one and the same. The MAIN movie seems to have just been the OAVs back to back as some have said.

DID you actually watch the show...its nothing like macross seven.

  3. I've seen the IGLOO dvds once or twice, and they're just not worth it. Overpriced is an understatement. $50 dvds are NOT the way of the future, Bandai. Not unless you want to see the market continue to shrink.

Overpriced is right...hell they didn't even bother to dub it. Bandai visual might has well have just dupped the fansubbers and released their versions on DVD.

  4. Here's a good one. I got jerked around by Phillips customer service (in malaysia or something) when asking some questions about my new Phillips upconverting DVD player. So I called the office of Phillips president to inform them of the crappy customer support. To make up for the hassle they give me a free Blu-ray player (its refurbished...but its free). Anyway it turns out that they are selling these in their phillips outlet for $179. So if you want a cheap blu-ray try there. It even comes with the HDMI cable.

BTW the Blu-ray works great...just as good as my PS3...at least until the new ps3 update with Blu-ray live comes out in a week or so.

  5. It's more than just a repaint, if we're both thinking of the military version Aquarion. I have the military version and from what I recall of the original Aquarion, the military version has a few cosmetic differences.

Now that I think about it, it might have a different head. Not sure about anything else.

  6. Anybody gotten their from a store located in the US? The wait is killing me. I pray my stick says megahouse and not toynami.

I imagine if someone wanted to sell these down the road that the Megahouse ones would be worth a bit more considering toynami's poor reputation.

  7. My Playstation 3 needs to have video and audio settings reset all the time, and it is plugged in and in standby mode for the time that I am not using it, I found that since I have it plugged throught the receiver for the HDMI to go to the LCD HDTV, if I dont let the receiver completely turn on and "click" it resets itself...kinda a pain really

    Twich

If mine did that I would call PS3 and ask whats up. My hasn't needed the settings changed since I first set it up 7 months ago. Even made it through a short power outage. My brother-in-law's did that and Playstation had him exchange it where he bought it for a new one. What model is it. Is this problem particular to a certain edition. I have the 60GB and have no problems.

  8. I think this is the second release of the original toy. I'm sure the repaint will follow. I'm hoping they made a few improvements but I'm not sure if they have or not. I'm just happy to be getting one. They were all sold out when I tried last time. The repaint looks interesting as well...I'm going to have to rewatch the series agian to think about that one. Supposedly you can attach like 9 or so of the vectors together if you want to. I know there used to be a vid of Kwaramori making some very interesting combinations out of 3-4 of the complete toys.

  9. Oh yeah, it's totally their fault that you bought that toy. It was pretty well established the price wasn't confirmed. Logic and previous comments all placed the Beta's price at $150-200.

You guys whining about stores not honoring these prices sound like spoiled children. You thought you were getting away with a sweet deal and now that you aren't you're acting like you've been ripped off and are entitled to something.

Where the hell was this established...it sure wasn't noted on the BBTS's site. And frankly I haven't been reading up on the beta on macrossworld. Its still false advertisement and is against the law.

  10. Actually there is a law here in Minnesota requiring online companies to uphold their prices to Minnesota residents no matter what the cause of the mistake or price change or the location of the business. All I have to do is simply file a case in civil court...its a rather open and shut deal. I've known a few people who have done this and won without even hiring a lawyer. And if they did the courts would have made the offending business pay those lawyer fees.

Also I happen to own and run my own business and If I make a mistake with one of my clients, I EAT THE COST. simple as that. That is what upstanding businesses do.

  11. Legally they don't. I've had a similar problem with big name online retailers like Amazon.

So you expect the shop to take it in the ass because of a mess up? And if they don't you won't do business with them? Wow, you sound like a stand up customer. I'm sure they'll miss your patronage.

Actually, in this case a contingent purchase of an alpha was made due to the pricing of the beta. Now I'm stuck with an alpha without a beta because there's not a chance that I'm paying $149 or more for a beta.

Also Stand-up stores take responsibility for their mistakes rather than shafting their customers. This has happened more than once on products I've preordered from companies and every other company I've had this happen with has "taken it the ass for their loyal customers"

BTW...love the snideness of your remarks. You sound like a real stand up guy....

  12. Sorry but that's crap...If a store puts something up for a price they legally have to honor that price. If they have a problem with it they can take it up with Toynami. I guess I'll call the shop I ordered from and relate this point. If they don't honor the price they won't be getting my business anymore.

  13. You can try the Yodobashi Camera building, 6th floor if I'm not mistaken. They got complete set of gunpla and plamo.

For some rare stuff, try walking Akihabara main street to the right after you exit the station, there are plenty of hobby shop there, just keep your eye open. There's Asobit shop and Kotobukiya shop near the station.

I would avoid books unless they just came out. We were there last year (arrived on St Patty's day) and stayed for 16 days. THe lost planet books were utterly useless for restaurants and clubs. They change too often. Akihabara has changed a lot in the last year as well according to Dannychoo.com.

Your best bet to find nearly everything is Yodabashi (THink the biggest electronics, games, toys store known to man). Yodabashi is on the South east side of the station across the street I believe.

There are also a lot of other good spots (I hope they are all still there)

I'll use the station as a starting pt.

-As you walk out of the station (North east side I believe) you will head North about 1 block to hit the main street...Can't remember the name though (it might be chui-dori). Most of what you will find will be along here or withing 1 block to the north of that main street. Don't forget to grab the flyers from the maid girls to find their maid cafe later for lunch.

Also in case my memory is wrong, I'm imagining the river on the east side of the station running north/south.

-As your heading N out of the station there is a Gamers (game/anime/toys store with a cute little mascott from some anime on the store front). Across the street to the west is an Awsome block (I think this is the Kotobukiya shops.) In the middle of the block head up and You'll be beseiged by toys, gundam...hell everything. Don't forget to hit the little shops in the ground floor tunnels through the middle. These are kinda like a pawn shop for anime toys and figures. I found my best deals and 3 suitcases worth of gundam stuff here. This is also a great place to find trading figures...I even got the little minmay doll there for only $5. BTW the building is like 7 floors worth of toyshops.

-On the far side of that awsome block is a little shop that has good deals on gundams and other mecha figsures.

-Once your on the main street head east. On the south side are a lot of good shops...try them all...there is also a Macdonalds here if you need an emergency burger or coffee.

-Don't forget to look in the lower levels of these buildings since they often hold nice shops, some are eroge manga shops.

-Keep heading east until you no longer see stores of interest....like 6-10 blocks. Then go across the street and head back west. Once back to the station area head north a block and you'll find this Awsome toystore (ASOBIT)...as good as Yodabashi (they used to be on the main street but I lucked out last year and caught them just before their move to their current location for 50% off deals). They moved the entire place in 1 night. Freakin nuts. I think its part of the LOAX group but that isn't the name of the place. Once done hear start heading east again.

-There is a mandrake there if you're looking for really old stuff but its small and rather difficult to find. And I thought the quality of the toys was rather sub par. I didn't see much for macross...at least not reasonably priced macross stuff.

-Check in the arcades and you might find the Gundam simulator...really cool, if you go early in the morning there might not be an hour line for it.

-Best bets for macross stuff seemed to be Yodabashi and the building across the street from Gamers.

-There were also a lot of good shops in shuboya. We didn't find much for good anime stuff in Harajuku.

-I think there is also a Mandrake in Shinjuku.

-BTW if your heading to the Tokyo Anime Festival next week I strongly suggest you arrive EARLY. We got there an hour before it opened and upon leaving the train we were shocked by the 1000 yard long line (6- people wide) that grew about 10 people for every 3 steps we took. Eventually we had to run it rather than never reach the end. BTW most of the people in line will already have their tickets so as you get in the doors don't forget to switch lines to the purchase ticket line. If your there at this time I strongly advise you to go...it was very cool.

-There is also a great shop that's kinda just north of the UENO station and west of UENO park (great cherry blossom viewing and partying). I didn't buy anything there but it was still a cool shop. North of it are a mess of little shops that sell everything you can imagine.

-Also don't expect great prices. Most of what I bought only a dollar or so cheaper than the prices we get from Bigbadtoystore or what we used to get from valkyrie exchange. I was really hoping the pricing would be better. HLJ sold most of what I purchased for about the same price. Prices will vary from store to store, for instance I bought a Gunbuster 2 non figure for like 4600 yen but most stores were selling it for 5600 yen. I shopped around for it but I spent a good 15 or more hours in Akihabara looking closely at everything.

    Last thing...wear very comfortable shoes.

    Hope this helps.

    Have a fun trip.

  14. Yeah must admit it's really kick ass looking as a toy. Never seen the anime though.

I'd love for Bandai to do a SOC Voltron Lion set. I had the original diecast set when it first came out,

but as a kid (like most of the stuff that came out especially the age of matchbox sh^t for macross)

i was dissapointed with the poseability and features. heh, the only sole survivor is Pidges Green lion with it latching

on to the sword with it's teeth. :D Still cool, hated the Yellow, Blue, and Black. Featureless, crappy poseability.

An SOC would totally blow Toynami and the original out of the water. Decent leg articulation... Do it bandai!

Voltron is still my fav multi vehicle combiner, there are others, but i vaguely remember what i watched.

G-Force SOC would be another cool thing i'd DEFFINENTLY buy.

Sousei no Aquarion (just Aquarion in the US) is well worth the watch. Just picked up the first boxset (13 ep on 3 discs for $37 at BestBuy). Definitely a classic as good. There's also a lot of macross style goodness in the battles.

  15. Well, that's kind of neat, except for the fact I own NO HCM-Pro's.

I went to the local hobby store since they got their stock in.....I saw LOTS of Double-Oh kits...but man the prices for these things is just outrageous there....I'm better off just ordering online and saving the 10+ dollar difference. Sadly though, all the MG kits were old releases as far back as 2001.

Some of the other 10 base models had a writeup suggesting they would would well for 1/100 but I'm thinking if it works well for 1/100 then it isn't going to work well for 1/200 gundams.

  16. As a franchise, I'd start with an adaptation of Zero followed by 2-3 films about Space War 1 then possibly stories about the many colonial conflicts between SDFM and Plus, even including various genres within the universe...

The universe is so vast, there are tons of room for fresh new stories...

Why not just start with DYRL scene-for-scene (since its a masterpiece). If that looks great and sells tickets add zero as a prequel and maybe macross plus. Probably do the plus movie first then zero.
