I’ve been looking at these schematics and I can’t figure this out....why are there extra feet and shins in the legs?

I'm just guessing here. Maybe the 'ghost lineart' is just to show the size of the Zentraedi soldier in a pilot suit inside the N-Ger.

    Don't care for it.

I would have preferred "neck parts"...or some better execution/design.

I have had it for a few days now and find the detachable leg "gimmick" really annoying/dissapointing.  I really cannot think of it as an improvement over the Yamato...unless you are comparing it to the Yamato V1 where both legs detached separately.

In all, I see this DX as a moderate improvement over the Yamato 1/48 , rather than the Yamato V2.  By no means is it a giant leap forward in VF-1 toy design.  This definitely not the "ultimate" VF-1 we were waiting for.  Maybe in another 5-10 years?

With that said, it doeslooks great in all 3 modes, but that detachable leg gimmick, to me, leaves me feeling like something better can be done...perhaps it really does need to be in that 1/35 scale they teased to be able to accomplish "ultimate" status.

I honestly hope that if Bandai ever "downscales" this DX to more of a 1/60....that they drop the detachable leg gimmick, seems more of a headache than what you get out of it.

Thanks JVM! Really appreciate your honesty. Let's drink to the next incarnation for the 'ultimate' VF-1J. :drinks:

There's really no detail back there. However, it does give a small semblance that the hatch is there (if you knew there was one there in the first place). Doesn't bother me as I don't look back there anyways.

Maybe they are saving that feature update for the 1D with raised pilot seats option parts.

I can’t recall another time in the TV series we see that feature used except in the 1D.

In the "Miss Macross" episode, Hikaru gets in the GBP vf-1j with the battroid-seat thing.  I feel like it makes an appearance somewhere after episode 27, as well, but I'm not sure.

TWE seat option part to go with with GBP release. :p

Thanks guys! Now I have to make sure that I'm not going to look at the back part. ;)

    Looks gorgeous, @sharpnel! :good:

Quick question for those who have it. What do you guys think about the back neck part of the DX version? Would you guys prefer the added details that YamArcadia have on their neck cover option part? I don't have mine yet, but after I checked back the photos in the Tamashii site, I noticed that there's not enough detail on it that suggests that there should be a door somehow for the pilot to release.

Anyways, let me know what you guys think. Thanks! ^_^

Some more with the hikky chunky

I don't have a chunky monkey. But it would be nice if Bandai will make DX 1/48 Vf-1S Hikaru next. So you can display it with these two together.

Also, it's really becoming weird if this 'praise' comment will still be downvoted like the rest of my praise comments, right? Not that I have noticed.:pardon:Hahaha!

That’s very nice work! If I were to simply panel line without doing any weathering would you suggest the matte coat still?

Thanks I’ll look into those and watch those vids.

You're welcome. As for the matte coat, it's an option if you want. Think of it like a layer of protection. Some members put it, some don't. ;)

Do the shoulders lock into place in battroid mode? It looks like they sit on a plastic corner from your photo

I think that's where the shoulder locks in its place. From what I've seen on the videos, once the shoulder ends in that area, you will hear a locking 'click' sound.

What method/materials do you use to panel line this figure? I've read varying suggestions/recommendations over on the HMR thread. Debating if I should do it to my figure, makes such a huge difference!

I suggest you try Flory’s Washes since they’re clay so it’s water based. When you make mistake it’s easy to wipe it with wet wipes and not harming the plastic like how some thinner does. There’s also Vallejo Model Wash which is water based too. There’s some YouTube videos of showing how to use all of these. So I suggest you watched those videos first and see if it’s to your liking before making a purchase. If you have extra kits laying around, try it on them first before applying it on your most expensive toy. ^_^

    Hope that helps. :drinks:

Discovered what seems to be the only compatible part between the old Yammie-1/48 and the new Bandai DX-1J...

    Yeah.

    The Skull heatshield.

    Woo hoo or something...

    :bump:

That looks nice. :good: Perhaps, Bandai might get a hold of MtF VF-1J rights to produce a DX version? That would be awesome and sweet.

There are two nosecone pieces with the Yamato armor. One that goes over the nose cone (but it’s quite large) and a smaller one for use without the nose cone. Someone correct me if that’s wrong :)

    Thank you sir! ;)

I remember Jenius site after I posted that one and see what it is. I really appreciate Jenius’ review website for things like this. Thanks! :good:

This is obviously the Yamato 1/48 version & at 1/48 with the GBP Armor, it's truly a beast!!

This is the first time I notice this since I don’t have Yamato 1/48 VF-1’s. Is that how the armor is on the nosecone? Or is that an alternate armor part? I don’t remember seeing a nosecone shape armor based on the lineart.

Edit: I browsed Jenius’ Anymoon site and it is indeed an alternate nosecone part. Learned something new today from the old Yammie 1/48’s. ^_^

I hope you guys are both right.

If this release is of Kai then I am totally for it. I was never too crazy about the price tag. All Bandai did was splash some black steaks over the original paint scheme, attach a new emblem, and a few armaments.

Don't forget the cool looking Tamashii box that came with it too. ;)
