  1. I found an auction for just the art book from the Blu-ray set. Starting bid is about $80 http://page16.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u23457400
  2. For about 5 years now, the 1/20,000 Exelion resin kit by General Products has been at the top of my 'holy grail' list. And today, it just got bumped down a notch. That is because I have discovered the existence of this; http://www.flickr.com/photos/hobby_blog/2288719778/ I don't know the scale or who makes it, but it's big, it's sexy, and I must have it. And it even comes with a little in-scale Gunbuster! http://www.flickr.com/photos/hobby_blog/2287931801/ The same guy made an Eltreum also, which is even bigger! And more expensive, at Y58,000 (the Exelion was Y35,000) http://www.flickr.com/photos/hobby_blog/2288721620/ And to give you an idea of how big they are, I found this on the maker's blog: http://1st.geocities.jp/kk4509/_gl_images_/767752.JPG
  3. Great success! Found a translation of the opening chapter of the first Yukikaze novel! But unfortunately, it seems to be the only one that's been translated... http://groups.google.com/group/rec.arts.an...3e9e47cf87ff000
  4. I did a bit of googling today, and was quite surprised to find that all of the Yukikaze manga has been scanlated! It's only one book, but still It's rather odd, and it deviates from the anime at times, which leads me to wonder if it's closer to the novels than the OVA. Its author is Yumi Tada, the character designer for the OVA. http://www.perseveration.ru/index.php?sect...ubsect=non-yaoi I also found a Yukikaze fansite with a few interesting links. By far the best of them, though, is a collection of blog entries summarizing the Yukikaze novels! http://www.absolutetrouble.com/yukikaze/extras.php
  5. The Mave will be re-released also. HLJ just screwed up and re-listed the first version of the Supersylph instead of the Mave.
  6. They're not actually in stock just yet, but they should be in soon. I was quite glad to see that the resin kits are getting re-released this month too. That is, unless Platz delays even the re-releases...
  7. Wow, that one's a different version, actually. That's the Gradius 2 version of the Vic Viper. The first one was the Sky Girls version. It's cool to see it's getting made... but I really felt burned on the first one. That kit has more fit issues than I've seen on an injection kit in a looong time. Y3800 was way too expensive for a kit with that many problems. And this new version is even more expensive...
  8. Don't bother with Celga on that one. You can order it from amazon.jp yourself. There's a link on pretty much every page that changes the ordering information to english. The item description and stuff will remain in japanese, though. http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/switch-language...anguage=en%5FJP
  9. Wow, that's really surprising... I never would have guessed they'd be bringing it to america. I dunno how they're expecting to make money on it though, since it kinda flopped in america. That, and you can get the regular DVD set for a mere $30 already. I kinda want it for the english version of the SAF Flight Manual. Bandai Visual does really good english liner notes. The subs on disc 3 would be nice too. But I don't think they're worth enough to me to get me to double dip on something this expensive. And Cain, there's some duplicate art in all 3 books, but there's still a lot of new stuff in the blu-ray book.
  10. The 16 page book doesn't have too much to offer, if you can't read japanese. Most of the pics are just screen shots. It's basically the set's liner notes.
  11. It was a kit, but it was only sold at one Wonderfest. So it's very rare. It's also very expensive. Its original price was Y50,000
  12. Goddamn, it sold for $255! Looks like you got a good price on it after all! I got my Yukikaze Blu-Ray set a couple days ago, and it's pretty impressive. I bought it mainly for the art book and the 1/200 diecast Mave, and I was quite pleased with both. The art book is a bit small, the size of a blu-ray case, but it's 200 pages long. It's mostly mecha art, with accompanying text, 35 pages of characters, and 25 of various settings. Lots of great art, much of which hadn't been published before. The diecast Mave is great too. The proportions and paint job are all perfect. There's a couple gaps that are a bit large, but there's no screw holes or anything that'd make it look overly toy-like. I don't have a blu-ray player yet, but I was able to watch a bit of it on a friend's PS3 yesterday. I watched a bit of episode 1, and it looked pretty damn good. And as promised, english audio and subtitles are available. The only bonus features are on disc 3, which is only 33 minutes long. Definitely the best part of it is the 5 minute 'Yukikaze Experimental Movie'. I'm kind of at a loss to explain it tho. There's no subtitles, so I couldn't understand the narration, and there's no obvious story going on. There's a lot of short animation scenes, many of which are obviously new, but there doesn't seem to be anything tying them together. Nothing that would add to the story either. But then, I could be missing a lot from the dialog. But it's definitely worth watching, if only for the new mecha scenes The only other thing on disc 3 is a a conversation between Isaku Okabe (military affairs journalist) and Satoshi Akatsuka (aviation photographer). Okabe was also the mecha commentator in the Fairy Air Force at War DVD. Again, no subtitles
  13. I'd totally be in for one. Extra detailing would be awesome, but a cockpit isn't a must for me.
  14. I was just looking at stuff at Amazon.jp (after seeing that my Blu-Ray box just shipped ) and I noticed a couple new additions: http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%90%E3%83%B3...8623&sr=8-5 http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%90%E3%83%B3...8623&sr=8-4 Looks like the Yukikaze EX kits are being re-issued! Amazon says they're due out feb. 25th. I'm hoping that the Rafe will be re-issued along with them. I still need one of them.
  15. There's an original Platz Supersylph up on Ebay at a good price right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/YUKIKAZE-Resin-Kit-SUP...1QQcmdZViewItem And I've gotta say, I was very surprised to see a copy of Blue and Purple on ebay... I wonder what it'll sell for.
  16. There's a few sites that offer a proxy bidding service to let you buy from Yahoo Japan Auctions (for a fee). I usually use Celga.com That Supersylph is looking pretty good!
  17. Blue and Purple is a Yukikaze art book that was self-published by a couple of the show's mecha designers. It was sold only at Komiket (Comic Market) 70, in August 2006, with an original price of Y2000. They've gotten real scarce lately, and the few copies that show up on Yahoo Japan Auctions command prices of Y20,000+ (about $200). But it's a great book with a lot of awesome art! It's mostly mecha art, with accompanying text. There's also a script of some sort, an unused storyboard, and a few pages of Tasukete Mave-Chan art. Here's the only one that's on yahoo japan right now: http://page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f61411125 And some more extensive info on the book (in Japanese) http://uis4uchi.cocolog-nifty.com/farewell...urpre_f27b.html
  18. Yea, pretty pricey... Looks real nice tho. Even has the full lineup of missiles, plus drop tanks. I'll probably buy one. Though I'll probably sell one of my Supersylph EX kits before I do.
  19. Well, I put in a shipping request at HLJ the other day when I saw they'd been discontinued, and now they're prepping to ship both of my Vic Vipers. They're still listed as discontinued
  20. Did anyone get one of these from HLJ? I had 2 on pre-order, but it looks like they sold out before they got to my order Now they're listed as 'discontinued'
  21. It's looking like 5 of them are being produced by Alter. The diecast Mave that's included with the Yukikaze Blu-Ray box is 1/200 also, so I'm wondering if it's related to this product line also...
  22. Oh yea, I had forgotten about the 1/100 Supersylph... Cool to see the poster for the upcoming 1/200 series. But there were several more in the OmeOre series that aren't in there...
  23. Well, I don't have any real first-had experience with the Retppu kit, so I can't say for sure. But if I had a choice between the two, I'd probably take the Club-M.
  24. Honestly, the fast packs are kind of a pain. The leg packs don't fit too well, and the mounts on the boosters are useless for getting them properly aligned on the fuselage. It's definitely one of those kits that CAN become a great model, but it'll take a bit of work. But I'm still praying Hasegawa will make a VF-11 kit eventually
