Do the chest doors open out or in?
http://p-bandai.jp/tamashiiwebshouten/item-1000014712/
"胸部ミサイルハッチは組み換えで内開き、外開きの両方を再現しています。"
Suppose to come with parts to let them open either way you choose.

Well I went looking around and see one other HK shop listed it:
http://www.locushk.com/?sp=&p=6&cat2=1509&cat1=156&cat0=24&id=4462&cat1=156&cat0=24&new=&more=〈=en
That's about US$195 + shipping

I know I'm kind of late on this, but since I got back into collecting last month and got a VF-25F v2 on it's way, I was wondering where could I buy the v2 super parts at a reasonnable price. I found BBTS at 110$, but paying twice the MSRP is a bit of a downer. Any suggestions?
http://www.anime-export.com/product/7777
http://yokattaweb.jp/store/preorder/291-super-parts-VF-25F-alto.html
It will be hard to find it cheap now since Bandai already closed the web order for the super parts. All that can be listed are what the individual shops ordered and they can't order more from Bandai.

Well, I've heard that it isn't rare to find something akin to a VF-25 alto renewal, etc. in a hobbby store in HK or Japan (at least, when compared to online retailers).
Yes but Graham also mentioned the street price for the DXv2 VF-25F in Hong Kong is about HK$2000, i.e. about the same as eBay. I don't know what kind of price real shops in Japan are charging, but it is looking crazy at Amazon.co.jp.
-
Ok, are any of you guys as confused as me that these things (VF-25 renewal, etc.) are actually available easily in stores in japan/hk, but online retailers don't seem to be carrying them?
I can't understand why
Well I can't understand where you get that. The YF-29 and VF-25S are hard to find in Hong Kong. The YF-29 reissue pre-order is just messy with some shop refunding quickly after they took too much pre-orders.

In the past I used to think the prices were more reasonable and could justify spending $250 to $280 on a valk but prices have been getting too ridiculous lately. All of the first releases at least came with a set of armored parts out of the box. You at least got your monies worth. I can't help but feel like bandai is trying to gyp us out of out hard earned money by just providing the bare minimum of accessories and making us pay through the nose for the super or armor parts by not boxing them with the figure itself...
Let's check:
DXv1 VF-25F - 12,000 yen, no add-on, no stand
DXv1 VF-25G - 16,000 yen, super pack and stand
DXv1 VF-25S bundle - 18,000 yen, armor pack and stand
DXv1 super pack with stand - 4,000 yen
DXv1 armor pack with stand - 6,500 yen
DXv2 VF-25F or VF-25S - 14,000 yen, stand
DXv2 super pack - 4,725 yen
DXv2 armor pack - 8,190 yen
It's not that bad but if you use US$ - see how the rate changed in 5 years. The price for the add-on increased quite a bit and we only have a few photos to look at before deciding on ordering them. We will see if they are worth the price.
From looking at their gundam lineup I can't say the same... I Have been collecting most of their metal composite lineup since their debut and the prices have generally stayed the same all these years. You also get all the accessories boxed with the fig from the get go. You definitely feel you get your monies worth. With the macross lineup not so much... I feel like I just pay full price for just the figures and have to pay 150 plus for some plastic parts... its really absurd when you think about it...
You can't really compare with this line since there are big difference in size of each set. They also have a serious supply shortage with 00 and Unicorn with eBay price as crazy as DX YF-29.

I am interested to see how many are actually buying or trying to buy those valk that is some how getting so hard to get, and story on which shops that are not really reliable for pre-order. Also may be we can let the main toy topic to focus on the toy instead of who is to blame for not taking our money.

I installed this addon today to scan all the shops, DDOS style:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/update-scanner/
Around 9pm EST today, anime-export pre-order list was updated with this:
They were adding one item every few minutes, until around 10:10pm the DX VF-171EX is up (10% off, not the usual 20%)
http://www.anime-export.com/product/8512
It is still open at 10:18pm...

I will just look at the high-res photos for now. There are quite a bit of photoshopping going on:
B mode pic 1: We should see more stuff on the tip of the wings instead of all white.
G mode pic: You can see something between the legs, probably the display stand.
-
Larger images
Slightly updated too: You can't see the belly mounted gun on the 1st poster.

Looks like he raised the price by a little. Same company as the website.
eBay charges fee you know.

The blue box one is a 2009/2010 reissue.

The clean VF-171EX was shown in Macross Chronicle 37. I can only find very low-res scans:
But here is a high-res art of the armored version:
One thing I am not sure about is the landing gears on the legs.
Green circled the seam lines and it is the same location for landing gears on VF-17, but how does it work with armors on? The red circled part may be an alternative but it is already painted as standard micro missile ports.
Screen shot from episode 24 shows landing gears with armors on, but it looks like they just draw them to the end of the unit without giving much thought.

I really hope they come up with something better than clip-on missiles this time though. Yamato's had embedded hardpoints for over a decade now, and since the VF-171's wings aren't enclosed in a sleeve like the VF-25, there's no reason not to have hardpoint stubs under the wings. Heck, you don't even have to make them rotate, since the wings aren't actually variable in flight.
Look closely at the CG - it is suppose to keep the wing mounted weapon even in B mode.
But the chance of getting wing mounted weapons is about 0. We can see here the bottom of wings are very clean:
-
Not into collecting white toys anymore due to the yellowing issues.
I'll rather wait for it in the fodder scheme.
But Bandai will just use light blue plastic like the DX Macross Quarter, not metallic blue like the Wave SDF-1.
-
Crazy news. But the VF-171EX always come with the extra weapons on screen.
Standard for Bandai - release base unit at lower price, then the add-on for 50% more. I expect the web limited super pack to be announced around June to boost sale.
i wonder if the weapon pod will be collapseable like the vf 17 yamato
No need. That gun is external in fighter mode.
-
Is the VF-1S specifically labeled as Roy or Hikaru?
It is specified as the VF-1S TV version:
-
Do you have data to back up this claim? I am inclined to believe that in the grand scheme of things the demand is rather negligible -- or else why would Yamato go the exclusive route?
Yes and with web based pre-order (which I expect HLJ will provide for us too) Yamato knows exactly how much they need to make.
-
Oh a light grey gun! Will it come with body colored missiles like the low-vis?
-
More colourful than the fan made art at m3:
http://www.macross2.net/m3/sdfmacross/variant-vf-1a-darkbird.htm
Great news. At the very least it tells me switching factory does not stop them from making more 1:60v2 VF-1, so bring us some VE-1 reissue please?

Poll on all these sold out valks

Well there were too many questions and options already, and it's supply were much less limited then thanks to a second batch so most could get them at regular price - HLJ listed it at regular discount for a week after release, unlike the others. I remembered because I got mine from AmiAmi after release at no discount and if HLJ listed it earlier I could saved a bit.
