  1. In the past I used to think the prices were more reasonable and could justify spending $250 to $280 on a valk but prices have been getting too ridiculous lately. All of the first releases at least came with a set of armored parts out of the box. You at least got your monies worth. I can't help but feel like bandai is trying to gyp us out of out hard earned money by just providing the bare minimum of accessories and making us pay through the nose for the super or armor parts by not boxing them with the figure itself...

    Let's check:

    DXv1 VF-25F - 12,000 yen, no add-on, no stand

    DXv1 VF-25G - 16,000 yen, super pack and stand

DXv1 VF-25S bundle - 18,000 yen, armor pack and stand

DXv1 super pack with stand - 4,000 yen

DXv1 armor pack with stand - 6,500 yen

    DXv2 VF-25F or VF-25S - 14,000 yen, stand

    DXv2 super pack - 4,725 yen

    DXv2 armor pack - 8,190 yen

It's not that bad but if you use US$ - see how the rate changed in 5 years. The price for the add-on increased quite a bit and we only have a few photos to look at before deciding on ordering them. We will see if they are worth the price.

From looking at their gundam lineup I can't say the same... I Have been collecting most of their metal composite lineup since their debut and the prices have generally stayed the same all these years. You also get all the accessories boxed with the fig from the get go. You definitely feel you get your monies worth. With the macross lineup not so much... I feel like I just pay full price for just the figures and have to pay 150 plus for some plastic parts... its really absurd when you think about it...

You can't really compare with this line since there are big difference in size of each set. They also have a serious supply shortage with 00 and Unicorn with eBay price as crazy as DX YF-29.

  2. I am interested to see how many are actually buying or trying to buy those valk that is some how getting so hard to get, and story on which shops that are not really reliable for pre-order. Also may be we can let the main toy topic to focus on the toy instead of who is to blame for not taking our money.

  3. I think because it's a hero valk, it will sell out pretty quick.

Well he kind of hated it in the show, due to it's lower performance. This release leave Shin the only one hero valk incomplete at 1:60. Poor Shin.

The price is confirmed at 14,000 + tax.

From the BD scan linked above:

  4. The clean VF-171EX was shown in Macross Chronicle 37. I can only find very low-res scans:

But here is a high-res art of the armored version:

One thing I am not sure about is the landing gears on the legs.

Green circled the seam lines and it is the same location for landing gears on VF-17, but how does it work with armors on? The red circled part may be an alternative but it is already painted as standard micro missile ports.

Screen shot from episode 24 shows landing gears with armors on, but it looks like they just draw them to the end of the unit without giving much thought.

  5. I really hope they come up with something better than clip-on missiles this time though. Yamato's had embedded hardpoints for over a decade now, and since the VF-171's wings aren't enclosed in a sleeve like the VF-25, there's no reason not to have hardpoint stubs under the wings. Heck, you don't even have to make them rotate, since the wings aren't actually variable in flight.

Look closely at the CG - it is suppose to keep the wing mounted weapon even in B mode.

But the chance of getting wing mounted weapons is about 0. We can see here the bottom of wings are very clean:

  6. Crazy news. But the VF-171EX always come with the extra weapons on screen.

Standard for Bandai - release base unit at lower price, then the add-on for 50% more. I expect the web limited super pack to be announced around June to boost sale.

i wonder if the weapon pod will be collapseable like the vf 17 yamato

No need. That gun is external in fighter mode.

  7. Do you have data to back up this claim? I am inclined to believe that in the grand scheme of things the demand is rather negligible -- or else why would Yamato go the exclusive route?

Yes and with web based pre-order (which I expect HLJ will provide for us too) Yamato knows exactly how much they need to make.

  8. So I've been considering buying a VF-25S V.2 Ozma Armored Messiah and I'm seeing the price for these as $600 shipped. Is it always going to cost this much or are these people just being wallet rapists? What's a fair price for this?

You mean like this one? That one is actually some what reasonable since it include the super and armor pack.

Anyway here are the base price:

    DXv2 VF-25S - 14000 yen ~= US$180

    Armor for Dxv2 VF-25S - 8190 yen ~= US$110

The DXv2 VF-25S is all sold out in regular stores and is going for > $300 on eBay. But DXv2 VF-25F also went through a period of limited supply but was restocked a few weeks after initial release, so the DXv2 VF-25S may see a restock too.

The armor part is a Japanese web limited item so you should add $10 to $20 for proxy service fee. The armor part is still at pre-order status from Bandai, i.e. someone living in Japan can still order more.

These proxy shops in Japan may pre-order the armor pack and ship to us for a reasonable mark-up:

    * http://dv8cag.com/

    http://www.anime-export.com/

    http://biginjap.com/

    http://www.nippon-yasan.com/

    http://yokattaweb.jp/index.html

    * Are the shops I have ordered from before and got my items without problem.

** I only used their eBay store before, no problem.

I have no experience with the other stores.

There is also a group buy in the trade forum here if you live in USA.

Is the V.2 that much better than a V.1 if I'm just gonna throw it in a display case? How much do V.1's usually run?

New? Just get the v2, unless you to want to buy my v1! ;)

  9. My old YF-21 and VF-22 are perfectly fine and some of the sturdiest and well made/looking figures in the Macross collection. No need for remakes. Wouldn't buy any if they were released.

    I rather see something new, such as the VF-2SS, VF-3000, VF-5000, VF-9, VF-14, etc..

++ How long did it take for HLJ and AmiAmi to get ride of all those VF-22 at 40+% off?

  10. Yeah I got one for the order from AE and then one generated by paypal I guess for the payment.

Oh in that case I got 3 mails - 2 from info@anime-export.com : "AE Anime-Export : Thank you for your Order N. xxxxx" and "AE Anime-Export : Payment for order n. xxxxx received thank you!" and 1 standard paypal receipt from paypal. You need to contact them now about your issue.
