Thoughts on the SDFM aftermath episodes
VFTF1 replied to dreamweaver13's topic in Movies and TV Series
Ah so. We have a difference of interpretation then. I always thought that Guld's line "she's waiting for you" basically meant: "Well, I love her and I'm going to die protecting her now - so you can have her old pal." I highly doubt Guld really believed that Myung had chosen Isamu "through Sharon." That - to me - makes no sense. If the woman you loved was being held hostage by a rogue computer program that was sending Ghosts to kill you and making zombies out of people - would you really take at face value the words of this rogue computer program as representing Myung's true feelings? If anything - We could more definitively say that she choses Guld because she does sleep with him after all - although that might have just been an emotional reaction and attempt to thank him for saving her life some how. But the point is that even if Sharon does somehow speak for Myung's true emotions - they are her true emotions "at that moment" -nothing more. And Myung's emotions are uncertain. If anything - she had put the past behind her and chosen NEITHER of them - events conspire against her choice and really force her to interact with them again. But Myung chosing Isamu because Sharon says so? I don't believe it. Why would she? Sharon is just reflecting SOME of her feelings and latching on to them for some reason. Perhaps she's had enough of Guld's heavy handedness in the recent past? In any case - I don't believe that she made a choice at all. I think she loved both of them. Guld made the choice: he gave Myung to Isamu and decided to die to keep her safe. He did this amongst other reasons because he surmised that Isamu was a more capable pilot and could rescue her. Guld couldn't defeat the ghost - he knew it and never planned on being able to defeat it. He planned on buying Isamu the breathing room to maybe rescue Myung. In any case - that's how I always read it. Pete -
His handle is "Schizophrenic" - that announces to the world that he's prone to goofs Let's give him a break and focus on the topic. I agree with Schiz, by the way, that the "errors" on that Macross outweight the "wow" factor. HOWEVER, they do not outweigh the FUN factor - and it looks like the project was lots of fun. I also really like the wires they put up around the antenna/bridge - I know there was line art out there somewhere supporting that...maybe it was in DYRL?... in any event that is cool that they did that. But I honest to guffin (who's that?) don't recall those upper-leg laser turret things they've got going? Also - it could stand some paint But no doubt it's an awesome project. I wonder what it can "do" ? Hat tip to that gang of dedicated fans for this awesome work Pete

Technically Tohsaka Rhin could be rated X - her skirt is removable... but then again; panties are not rated X per se, are they? Pete

What Lagann is that on the VF-1J? Pete

Adds to "Must Buy" list. Pete

Nice job. I'm happy to see these kits built and painted - always wondered what they looked like. They have a nice retro look to them (obviously) - it's nice to see. Good stuff Pete

On the subject of Arialbots - I could really use a reissue Superion - and Defensor while I'm on the subject --- mainly to go with my beautiful Encore Metroplex. I always loved how Silverbolt could become the airport on Metroplex while Hotspot became a maintenance bay Pete

I don't quite understand what steps 1 and 2 are doing there... maybe I'm misunderstanding (often the case with me...) ... You're trying to get the swing bar out from the nosecone - that is from battroid back to either gerwalk/fighter - yes? If so - what are you rotating 90 degrees? I don't really hold the nosecone as much as I hold the entire main body. You want to make sure to "catch" the force/pressure that you are applying because otherwise the friction will just be pushing against the entire main body instead of pushing out the T-bar... I don't know if that made sense ... Pictures? Pete

Speaking of hoaxes, I've been thinking recently - look at the name "Kawamori." Now - spell it backwards: "I rom awak." Now - seemingly I rom awak means nothing - but - those of you who are Star Trek fans should recognize that it is Romulan for "Tricked you like a Tarlak Lizard Tricks a Zamborian leanpol worm in heat. Ha ha." It's the line that the Romulan Commander uses when addressing the Federation in episode 13 "Stuck in a Vice." I just realized that now. So - judging by this, it would appear to me that "Shoji Kawamori" doesn't exist - or at least his last name doesn't. Now - this leaves us with "Shoji." Again - spell it backwards: I johs. Johs - Josh - to Josh around - aka to joke/kid. It all makes sense now. But then the real question is... who is really behind Macross? Pete

I too like the "swap real space for super dimmension space" argument - mainly because of its' poetic symetry with "Super Dimmensional Fortress Macross" which was the full title of the original series - so you'd think Super Dimmensions would be...important or something. Pete

Well, I'm sure it says what they are in the picture UN Spacey posted here - it's just we need someone who reads Japanese to enlighten us Pete

What's the story with that Borg guy ? He's on all the pictures- and now apparently he comes with the actual Revoltech? But...what is it? Why is it? anybody know? Pete

I can't believe I'm going to defend something about Macross: Plus - my least favorite of all the Macross series/OVas/movies but... I thought the resolution of the love triangle in Plus was great. Sometimes, we lose sight of the fact that having the problem of "who to choose?" is a luxury. Guild loved Myung and died to protect her - independent of whether or not she "chose" him - he would have waited for the choice to be made, and in the meantime, if it meant dying for her to protect her - he did it. Sharon "prefering" Isamu or not is irrelevent because Sharon is just a screwed up computer program. In any case - it's not Sharon who'se important here, it's Myung. Pete -
Really? I heard somewhere that this Ohnogi guy wrote the script - you know; the same guy who wrote Misa Hayese: Intimate Thoughts novel, as well as having personally done the art work for the scene in DYRL where Hikaru confesses his love to Misa. Didn't you know? Pete
-
Yes' that is a 1/60 v.2, which sort of explains the swing bar being difficult (would be shocked to hear of someone with a 1/48 problem)... You must have gotten the sequence wrong - forgotten it even... it was always a bit of a trick to do Truth me told - it's not all that bad. Look at the picture I posted above- granted those are not close ups - but is there really that much of a difference between the landing gears? The VF-25S just has a more all-terrain rugged landing gear.... Pete

They look great Monster I hope to have mine very soon I think the little box is going to be standard with all new Revoltech releases, as I keep seeing it crop up on all the picture-adds - but I could be wrong. Though that kind of accessory would certainly be helpful. I am pretty careful about keeping my parts (from Revoltech and other lines) in one place always, but with hundreds of figures and models it gets hard to keep up sometimes. I remember having a near heart attack when I "lost" my Revy parts and super parts for Revoltech VF-1S... In the end, it turned out I hadn't "lost" them - they were in the baggy that I put them in... but when moving from one closet to another in a re-arrangement, I stashed the baggy on top of a Nora box or something and it was invisible to me... so - yeah - little plastic boxes all the way. And those Ichiban Kuji figures continue to impress - though it's a tad bit shame that King Kittan has that drill - it'd be more fitting to pose him with Arc Gurren Lagann given that Pete

Yeah; well - it's nice that you can fiddle with them to make them look like something out of Robotix, but it would have been nicer if you could also - you know - combine them to form...you know...Devastator. Pete

a) Demolisher in that first picture looks like he enjoys the missionary position. b) These pictures demonstrate the problem with the Movie line - other than the fact that the toys look very little like what we see on screen.. namely.... No discernable robot mode. It's like - If I took my laptop- opened it and then turned it upside down and stood it on its' two halves and then tied the cabled that connects to the battery box around it, and balanced the battery box on top, with the little light flashing and said "robot mode"... is that what makes a Transformer? I have been thinking a lot recently about this notion of "they're aliens - so they should look alien." This is bullocks I have concluded. First - what does "look alien" mean even? Do you know what aliens look like? Have you seen them? Is there some scientific or logical reason why aliens happen to look like a turkey crossed with a gorilla or like rejects from Short Circuit? Second - well why do humans look the way they do? Why do beagles and small kittens look cute? Why do bunnies look like they do? Why do so many animals in nature look amazing for various reasons? Could it possibly have something to do with the fact that aesthetics, while naturally not something we can specificy in a scientific way, IS important to life forms nonetheless. Life forms LIKE being able to look at other pretty life forms and to feel appreciated for their physical features. Wouldn't robots from another world - presuming that they are sentient - also prefer to look pretty rather than to look like random twigs stuck together by cat poop? Wouldn't a race of sentient super robots develop - amongst other things - aesthetic values, art and fashion? I would be a bit more tolerant if the aesthetic from ROTF and the movie universe were a matter of being part of a sub-group - since there really have been a variety of different TFs - but to suggest that the whole population looks like that...me no like. Pete

I would prefer an Encore Victory Saber. Although I am happy with Bruticus, the cassettes - Omega Supreme, Metroplex, Sky Linx --- they've really done a great job so far... But it would be nice to throw some of the later guys into the mix. Star Convoy was a bit of a flop... Pete

This is something I need to get into as I grow older - video games. I've totally been out of the loop since Nintendo back in the 80s. I loved my NES... I understand much progress has been made since then. Is this Macross game something I can play on my computer, or do I need to get one of those "play station" things or something similar? Pete

Dude - you're being modest. Roadfire was probably the last Transformer G1 toy ever produced - and in laughably dwindled numbers. The fact that you have him is mind blowing I am always a tad dissapointed that they never made a toy for Violinist Jerry though; those insect modes were pretty cool as was the complete form In any event... Where do you suggest looking for Masterforce/Headmaster etc? BBTS's vintage department is pretty dried out. Is Ebay the last hope? Transformerland? I guess I could check there... Pete

The one thing I don't understand is why he would construct such an ellaborate fantasy? I sometimes do things like that; or try to - but always it's an "open hoax" - that is to say - usually it's laced with irony, and if someone unwittingly falls for it, they are usually set right pretty quickly. In any event - if it was a joke - the chap would have no reason to hide and run... he could just write back "ha ha - fooled you all" and everyone would be giddy... Do you think he made it all up out of a hatred of Ranka? Was it all part of a shipping war kind of thing? If so - that's pretty intense Also - it is interseting how people at his site are not fully convinced yet. I guess this just goes to show you how much power people who claim to translate things and know a language and have knowledge on a subject have - it's easy to forget how many noobies, novices and folks with only rudimentary working knowledge of a subject there are out there. I guess it would be like me and say....oh... I dunno...Star Trek. I like it, I've watched most of it (series and movies), but not with the passion and attention of a true fan. Transformers, Macross - Terminator (to some degree) - I think I could fairly call myself well versed in these topics - but even then I'm no expert... So - it's easy for regular internet users to get manipulated if someone decides to pull an elaborate hoax. Food for thought... And thanks for all your work. Can Macrossworld patent Gubaba? I don't know what the forum would do without you Pete
