  1. So the DVD is out today, I picked it up, great features in my opinion. Commentary from the director, 3 alternate endings of course, the ending they went with gave some closure.

Also a brief sum up of how and why they gave birth to the Cloverfield monster.

Not a bad DVD. It'd be a better viewing for me if I could of had my surround up watching it with some friends.

I may bring it with me to cali when I see my friend, she LOVES monster movies and is a big gojira fan...I told her it's a mix of Blairwitch and Gojira and she flipped thinking it sounded cool....ya sheltered life.

By the way, I DID see that segment at the end of something crashing into the water. Now that I could actually stop and look around in the end...that was interesting I wonder why no one else picked up on that, espically the cruise ship that was close to that area.

Probably thought it was blue ice  or some piece of space junk coming down.

  2. Well I don't know if this would fall into what you are looking for but David Weber's Honor Harrington Series is pretty good along with stuff he's done with John Ringo, and Steve White.

HH throws pretty much everything into the pot, political greed, and intrigue, social stuff, Space Naval Combat, Some Science Fact [although at times I feel like throwing a calculator at David], plus it has character's that actually evolve and age, as well as "the horror" characters you like getting killed quite a bit.

All around good series, oh there is also the various BOLO books done by several different authors including Weber, and Ringo. And Ringo's Posleen Wars [although I would probably suggest avoiding Cally's War], and his other series he's writing at the moment as well, sorry can't remember the name. Oh and a hard to find little trilogy by James Axler called Earth Blood which is more post apocalypse than SCI-FI.

  3. Okay, that one pic of this thats been floating around for years has been driving me nuts. Here's a better one of the full image, better scan. No one is allowed to use the other one now :p

I love that pic, and was hoping one day a better version would be put up. Although I do think it would have looked better with the TREAD's legs back up instead of hanging down.

  4. Very nice, but one of those shots, the size comparison shot makes me think that some of these may have come from Sentinels, what with that one including the hovertank and something resembling the updated zent battlepod.

Nope nothing to do with Sentinels, all Mospeada.

  5. Also, I think it was pointed out that there were various colonization efforts made without using a UN Spacy fleet. Eden was supposed to have been discovered by one such expedition (can't find the reference, but it was in 2012), but the graphic seems to indicate that Magaroad-04 did it - and the Macross Chronology suggests that Megaroad-04 was launched in 2014. Perhaps it was discovered first, and THEN the fleet was sent to properly colonize it?

Also, while I understand that we may be reading WAY too much into a quick graphic that was on the screen for ten seconds, perhaps said graphic only depicts fleets which are still on the move. Regardless of when they launched, it might be that all the other fleets have since found homes somewhere in the galaxy, and these are the ones that are still unaccounted for in some respect. Megaroad-04 stopped at Eden and was not seen "re-departing" the planet with the other fleets, for example.

There is one factor that may have led to only 13 MR's being logged, Since 13 was taken over by the Varauta, and nothing special happened to any later ships this may be the only reason those later vessels were never listed.

  6. 13 Megaroad class ships. Macross 7 was a different class of ship, the New Macross class. The opening of Macross Frontier shows both Megaroad-lead fleets and New Macross-lead fleets.

Yeah I realize that the 7 was a new class of ship but it was stated as being the 37th, so that means there were either 30 Megaroads, or someone can't count. As for the opening I doubt if they would show all thirty, of course I haven't watched it in awhile did they show all 25 New Macross.

  7. But, my players really didn't care about how accurate the modelling was. What they wanted was fast-paced, interesting action with the bare minimum of stats to keep track of. Throwing in rules for using different sensor types, different guidance systems, different movement systems... it kinda made their eyes glaze over. So, I stripped it down to the bare essentials and sped everything up, and they were happy as proverbial clams. In the end, as my own available time waxed and waned, I came to prefer a simpler system too since I could add new mecha designs quickly and without too much work.

I know the feeling, I stripped out most of that stuff myself, and tweaked others.

And they practically mutiny anytime there is a ship battle.

If you want to know what I did to the D20 system for various things let me know Ork_dreadnought [40k Fan?].

    Also I agree avoid Palladium.

Personally, I try to avoid using the losses in the anime as a gauge for the fleet count, since the creators do away with a ridiculously repetitive number of ships and fighters. It becomes impossible to reconcile recycled animation. Even a strict count, recycled animation and all, wouldn't solve the question and I personally believe it wouldn't match what the creators had in mind anyway. Still, this is all just guess and impression, so no answer is technically wrong (within reason of course).

Unfortunately without hard numbers sometimes you have to sit and count what's in the anime, and go from there.

  9. Welcome to Macross World Jackiman

Ack! Robotech! How terrible :) hehehe

Well, going by what blows up in Macross 7 is not really a good measurement of anything. They probably blew up more fighters than the ships actually carry :)

Seriously, I don't think solid numbers are ever provided for the size of the Macross 7 fleet. At least not as far as I'm aware from the anime or the Macross Compendium. As far as the Macross 7 anime is concerned, there appeared to be roughly one of each type of support vessel (Three Star Factory Ship, Einstein Research Ship, West Point Class Macro-Training Base Ship, etc) and multiple vessels of the Bolognese Stealth Frigates and Uraga Class Escort Carriers. Battle 7 and CIty 7 are the only New Macross Class ships in the fleet.

However, it should be noted the Macross 5 fleet actually had three New Macross Class ships, so a single New Macross Class ship per fleet is not a rule. The Macross 5 fleet also featured Zentradi ships.

The anime does confirm the Macross 7 fleet was vastly outnumbered by the Varauta and the official literature states the Varauta fleet was some 70,000 vessels in size. So the Macross 7 fleet could be any thing beneath that. Personally, I was always under the impression the Macross 7 fleet was somewhere around 50-100 ships.

Btw, if you need to see some pictures, make sure to check out my website (see the link in my signature below). It has plenty of good stuff for Macross fans :)

I'd have to say closer to 250 vessels, probably about 50-75% being Bolognese, then Guantanamo, with most of the Uraga's being attached to support ships.

Plus the fact that everytime you looked around at least half a dozen bolognese got trashed and then Sivil's rampage destroying 4-6 Guantanamo's alone.

  10. I don't remember how I found it, but here is a link with all sorts of artbooks:

    Artbooks

There's a lot of gundam (inc. sd and MS girls) in there, but also a lot of other random good stuff.

I did a similar thing playing Star Wars RPG in college. Eventually we got bored and brought in Macross, Gundam, Gall Force, and WH40K stuff; all pitted together to fight off the Tyranids from the SW galaxy. Then a couple years later the New Jedi Order came out and stole our idea.

    Excellent, this'll work great.

  11. Isn't it clear that he is building his own fleet and then probably setting off to get the Cosmo DNA!

    Taksraven

Nothing that complicated, Bounty Hunting, a large criminal organization, black magic, corruption, greed, and massive space battles. As well as love, romance, and downright odd ways of torturing people for information.

  12. Indeed - though as the series premiere date approaches, specualtion will only become more rampant. I hope the majority of fans will not be let down - the first episode has caused Frontier to be the most highly anticipated major anime series in years! People have been wanting to find out what happened to Megaroad-01 for almost twenty-five years now, but I'm still with the camp that believes Hikaru, Misa and company are still just "out there", having long since sailed into the sunset. Instead, there seem to be more clues that this is a follow-on to Macross Zero (Nome, the aliens' decorative script, etc.). But I digress...

To keep this on topic, maybe it's not unheard of in the Macross universe, but why would NUNS want to divert two colony fleets to where Megaroad-01 was last heard from? Why risk the lives of milliions of people on a hunch? Assuming there's no conspiracy going on (dun dun dun...), if someone wanted to investigate a clue behind the disappearance of Megaroad-01, I'd send a purely military scout fleet (perhaps sectioned off from one of the colony fleets) to check it out first. The Macross 7 fleet did just that while investigating Varauta, and the wisdom of that was played out when that fleet was annihilated in seconds. Unless someone was dumb enough to think that something that made a fleet disappear almost half a century ago couldn't possibly harm today's military might, they wouldn't want to place millions of civilians in harm's way like that.

And the VF-25 must be public, but probably not widespread knowledge. Alto knew exactly what it was and he was a civilian. Whatever's going on, the 25 has probably had its unveiling back on Earth or wherever it was built and initially tested, and was only secretly shipped out to Frontier for field combat testing. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Macross Galaxy or other "way out there" fleets had an SMS squadron aboard, complete with all the coolest toys for testing against known and unknown enemies.

Megaroad-13 was the one that sent the fleet to Varauta, Macross 7 only ever sent the Stargazer.

  13. Like I said in my first post I'm not trying to take credit for any thing.........

    I just found the torrent......

I can ask to have the thread deleted if every one wants.

Oh I wasn't talking about you, I was referring to the person who did the torrent.

Sorry if you thought I was referring to you.
