You know, I've forgotten how much fun Zentraedi are. Macross has really missed them since SDFM and DYRL. Hopefully we'll get more of the fun that they can be like in this episode. The plot twist at the end was also totally unexpected. Nevertheless, I was reminded quite a number of times in this episode of scenes from Macross Zero, Plus and even SDFM! I'm refering here to VF's in flight. The end credits was a total flashback to that of SDFM!

Yes. It looks like they've combined the weapon loadouts seen in Macross 0. The text says something about being equipped with a machine gun and a large cannon and missiles. According to the past armed usage of the destroids, the Shaian II can be said to possibly have a wider type of operation.

Jeez, Master Dex, is that statement not biased in any ways? Japanese show = Japanese rank structure. The translations into English are another matter altogether, and are usually biased by the country of origin of the translator. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_military_ranks (and http://www.uniforminsignia.net/index.php?p...150&sid=876 as the former doesn't have the ground SDF insignia.) When looking, it should be noted that the translations should be ignored. Look at the kanji. Note that the ranks of the different branches include 陸(ground/land/shore), 海 (sea/ocean) and 空 (air) into the title. Therefore, the 1等陸尉 (ittŌ rikui), is different from the 1等海佐 (ittŌ kaisa), which is also different from the 1等空尉 (ittŌ kŪi), yet they are all translated as "Captain"! Random notes: They are all "first class/first rank", but the ground and air versions end with "company officer/officer below the rank of Major". The Sea version ends with "field officer". Which results in Ground Company Officer First Class, Sea Field Officer First Class, and Air Company Officer First Class.

Did you see the one for Metal Gear Solid 4 during the first commercial break? On a 37" Hivision (erm... Highdefinition?) set, it made me cry. That and that new Gundam game. If only VF-X2 could look that great... Nevertheless, Macross F has some pretty kick a$$ details. On the long shot floating over the colony islands behind the Macross 25, there are a bunch of Maizara and Uraga carriers floating in the upper mid frame, which I never noticed before. I'm not sure if they are new or not, but on a 37" screen, they were less than 2 cm in size...

Next week, broadcast is from 01:29. The other blurb flashed on screen just before the ending was the promo for Ranka's Deput CD single. On sale within the week.

Oh, I don't think it's a money thing. I think it's a "let's go for the look and feel of the original. Hey, we still have the cels over there. Let's reuse them." There were times that I thought I was watching the original - and probably was, given the amount of recycling going on. Though, it is a shame that they spent a lot of time and energy making the new animation over the old backgrounds match the OVA animation, when they could've been touching up the "action sequence". I'm not really refering to the quality of, just the "look, Alto's at the bottom of the cliff. Hey, now he's at the top" lack of smooth transition going on. That sequence felt really, really rushed, and I had trouble making heads or tails if the beast/Alto/Ranka was falling down the cliff, or simply sliding along the top. So yeah, this episode gets points for the most extreme variety in quality of animation.

I think the times that yahoo is listing, is just how long the content they are hosting on the series is going to be up. There's no telling with a Macross TV series, how long they will last. SDFM: extra month or so of episodes after it ended. M7: ended up being a double length series, with an extra few encore episodes. If Macrss F is as popular as it's appearing to be, we may just get a long run. Though, I think the writers are shooting for a tight story...

Excellent episode. This one is particularly litered with in-jokes. I'll leave the Macross related ones for you folks. But the TV interviewer brought a chuckle - she looks almost exactly like a TV personality. After that, I was watching the supporting characters, trying to figure out if any other ones were based off of other TV personalities (none that I spotted, but the director was very familiar...) It was a neat twist where they had the ending credits (and they doubled as the ending credits for the movie!) before the end of the episode! The focusing on the end of Macross Zero also made me start thinking some deep thoughts about how that series connects with this one... Not sure if anyone noticed, but I believe that the following message was flashed across the screen: next episode on June 16th. Interesting in that the next episode is supposed to be Ranka Rii's depute, and her "debute" single is released on the 25th!

If you're refering to the VF-171, they were not firing at SMS. If you're referring to the Purple VF, it hasn't been established yet that it is a NUNS fighter. Given the extreme technology differences, it is highly unlikely that it is a NUNS fighter, let alone a human-as-we've-seen-so-far-in-all-the-Macross-series vehicle.

If I could, I would like to get the Blueray release of the series... but I don't think I'll be able to convince the wife until the prices drop another couple ten thousand yen... though, I'm not going to get the DVDs. I've been playing a few on the new 33" highvision TV, and the low quality of the format shows. Macross F doesn't have the HV stamp, but the broadcast quality is really, really high. I'm constantly blown away with the little details they add (highly detailed asteroids, cable used by Mihael to latch on to stuff, etc..)

Of course... I'm probably going to buy them anyways because they have the word "macross" on them. waves byebye to his ￥...

I'm getting this funny feeling that this is going to be of the same genre as those monthly Gundam, X-Files, Star Trek, Evangelion, etc. magazines that are common in one section of the average bookshop. You know, a little bit on this character, that mecha, this episode, that gun pod or missile, and perhaps even an interview or two. Nothing much more than enough to wet the appetite for more... I won't be surprised if they also start selling a binder for us consumers to put them in...
