  1. Me too. Currently waffling between a PS3 (yay, get to play the PS1 VF-X2 and other Macross games) or a drive for the PC (probably costs less, but I think my monitor's refresh rate is too slow. Even the MP4 "raws" jump at times...) Decisions, decisions.
  2. Too small? Remind me how a city of 5,000,000 in a 15x10 (at most 15x15) Km city is small? Try no budget/time to animate those things? We're talking about a weekly TV series here. And we have seen the trains and trolly. Of course, the trains were going over the dome and were little more than a thin white line.
  3. If the interior of the ship is anything like Japan, then despite efficient mass transportation, it'll take longer to go a couple of blocks than running or even walking. For example: if you take the bus, it means standing and waiting until the bus comes. If you take a subway or train it means (possibly) going slightly out of the way to climb a bunch of stairs and then wait for the next train/subway/monorail to come. Anyhow, I don't think her running is a commentary on mass transportation. It's as you said, a character flaw of hers. (Buy a watch, little girl!)
  4. I'll add that both the detonation and the physical size of the warhead have increased since we last saw them in a Macross anime.
  5. Oops. Forgot to modify that line after checking the article. Basically, I read your post as Aruto's comment = political messaging, then reread your post and the article and changed that to Aruto's comment = joke. Apologies, and I'm off to get more coffee. Apparently I don't have enough in my system just yet.
  6. Yes. In MF, every time a reaction warhead detonates (as opposed to the carrying missile being shot down), a big yellow "no fly zone" warning is displayed.
  7. As great as the theory is (reaction bombs open a doorway to superdimension space), the creators of Macross have already defined exactly what a reaction weapon is. See: http://macross.anime.net/wiki/Reaction_Weapon
  8. Woah. I doubt it's the second (I'd go so far and say that it's overanalyzing.)* Aruto was making a joke, pure and simple. ... just like I was, pages ago when I mentioned Jero. Hip hop enka singer, anyone? Also, Enka isn't what I'd describe as folk music (or at least by my image of it.) If anything, I'd consider it analogious to Big Band music, or stuff akin to Frank Sinatra (in terms of what the music is like, it's popularity (past and present), how it manifests itself in culture (on TV, etc.) and the type of people who listen to it.) *2nd by your word order, 1st by the Wikipedia article's ordering.
  9. It's a Newtype\BigWest book. Perhaps it'll be something like their 100% series? Which shouldn't be too bad. Colour picts from Newtype, lineart from the series, brief synopsis, perhaps even some music sheets. Which reminds me: a book containing all (or most or whatever) the music sheets from MF has been released. I spotted it at Animate. As I don't read music and have lost my ability to play it on an instrument, I passed on it, and went straight for the BD.
  10. Yeah... don't forget his head getting sliced off/body crushed scene in DYRL. Just after asking Minmei for her autograph in the emergency shelter, too!
  11. 6-8 hours is damn fast for a half hour (minus CMs) anime. Though, why wait for TBS? The MBS broadcast also has the option for subtitles/closed captions.
  12. What? There are people who think that he got into the business of selling a private army for profit to be altruistic? If anything, it says reams about him. (Selling a service that results in death and destruction means something's messed up in the morals department. Even just the businessman angle tells us that he's more or less into it only for the money.)
  13. Cool. BUT, if you do, watch only ONE (1) episode per day. Any more than that, and you have a chance of developing sick-of-too-much-Planet-Dance-itis, and join the group of Macross fans who overloaded themselves in the first few episodes, never finished watching the series, and state strange things, like "dislike a Macross show"! Moderation. Also, it may be best to approach the series as a drama with VFs, rather than a VF mecha show with drama.
  14. Agreed. There are some scenes in the series with extremely low quality art (faceless people in a meeting anyone?) that irk me. The scene that started this tangent didn't. It came across as at par. In fact, I'd say that I was quite impressed by the overall animation quality of the episode. Perhaps it was the lack of movement in the character animation parts, but that translates into more time to work on a given piece, which generally means better results.
  15. Super extreme closeup of a low pologon count 3DCG model that wasn't intended to be looked at that closely? Aside from that, the textures looked great on the big screen.
  16. Ooh. Sweet. They have the original voice actors. (Sound bytes? Rerecorded?)
  17. No. Because it's not being viewed at the scale that it's ment to be viewed at -> 40+ inch highvision screen.
  18. Kazutaka Miyatake doesn't label his line art like Kawamori Shouji tends to do. Mind you, Kazutaka Miyatake tends to sign his lineart, whereas Kawamori Shouji doesn't.
  19. Watched it live. Looks like we'll be treated to VF-25 Head Laser Action next week.
  20. I just glanced at the relavant sections of TIATS: M+ Movie Edition, Kazutaka Miyatake Design Works, and M+ Game Edition, and there is nothing that I spotted in the text nor notes on the line art to indicate that the weapons are beams, lasers, or even if there are any weapons!
  21. I don't think invulnerable is the right word. There's no telling how many red nasties were obliterated along with the yellow ankle biters. For all we know, the ones that survived were far from the epicenter of the blasts. As it is, their skin was cooked and ripped off. Hardly invincible. Or "invisible". (Looks at VF-25 Messiah's latest post.)
  22. Check the demographics of Macross F. It's also probably stemming from the same reason that we got a cutisie Ranka intro. I swear, some to many of the MF fans are of the female demographic. (One of my middle school students is a confessed fan. I'll have to ask her how she feels about Ozuma. Especially since we got treated to a younger version of him.)
  23. Here fishy, fishy, fishy. Definitely not the VF-2SS. For the simple reason that it's from a non-studio nue anime, and has been cut from the timeline.
