  1. Continuing on with my RX-78 frenzy I've now finished 3 1/144 variants.

Firstly the standard HGUC that comes in the GunPla starter set.

Secondly the 30th Anniversary kit. This has a few differences to the HGUC kit. The size of various bits is the most obvious, followed by all the panel detail to allow you to paint it up similar to the real size one. I painted it in Real Type colours, using the MG Real Type G-Armor kit as a guide.

Thirdly the Real Grade kit. I must say from the get go that I HATE this kit. Sure it's full of innovative ideas but the damn thing is so fiddly and falls apart at the slightest touch  I had to glue the fingers on the gun hand in place as the kept popping out of their hole every time you moved the arm. The seams come apart on some parts of the legs and arms when you move them too far, twist the head too much and off it pops, etc etc etc. It's nice for those that don't paint that there are different coloured panels but it just adds to the overall complexity of the thing. The stickers are pre-cut to fit into the area of the model they are supposed to go which is great as long as they stay stuck. Looking back I should have used the water slide set I had. The one glaring thing about it is the size difference between it and the other 2 kits. Geez they are all supposed to be 1/144 scale so why is that each time a new kit comes out the size of just about every damn thing changes  Anyway enough of the rant.

Here's some shots of them side by side.

    And one with big brother.

I've got an original 1/144 and an FG on the go and boy is there a huge difference between them and the HG era. They will take a bit of time as everything needs to be painted on them. I've also just about finished the 3 MG kits (V1, V1.5 & V2) and will probably get an original 1/100 kit to compare as well.

Just plain water. The technique works well with Bandai stickers (such as those that come with the VF-25 kits) as well.

    Thanks

  2. Can I get some translation help please? I came across some stick on decals in a Dengeki Hobby magazine for the MG RX-78 v2. It has different sets for normal, real & G3. I used their stickers on the mega Gundam I pictured earlier and they turned out pretty good (not as good as water slide but hey they were free ;) )

As I'm doing a MG real type version I thought I'd use these instead of buying Bandai's waterslide set. What I need to know is in the scan of the page below where it has POINT and shows them dipping the sticker into a dish of liquid, is that just water or do they refer to something else. I know they are doing it to allow the sticker to be positioned correctly but is it just plain water they are using. Thanks.

I've also put this in the What's on your workbench thread so hopefully someone can explain it for me.

    All fixed, thanks.

  4. YUP!! a candidate for Anime magic if ever there was.

    Exactly!

That's what always annoys me about people who don't use much toilet paper banging on about how this dimension is 1mm out and that arm is too shiny or rabbiting on about real world comparisons, blah blah blah...........

99.99999% of people who see my sci-fi models are not going to know what they are let alone say something like "gee the 3rd antenna on the right arm is 1mm too short and is 5 degrees out of alignment" or in the case of the jacket for Max's VF-1 they will more than likely say "what the hell is the robot thingy doing dressed in a jacket" than "gee that jacket looks a bit small/big for a Regult" ;)

If you display the 1/72 behind the 1/60 it will give a sense of depth in small place anyway.

  5. I've got all 3. The kits are just like any Hase valk kit. They even have a standard A/J/S DYRL decal sheet.

The Cartograph decals were done in conjunction with Model Graphics. I think there are other decal sheets that were included in other issues.

At this point in time I have no intention of assembling them but if I ever do I would say white glue or one of the canopy glues that are around would give the best results. No way would I use normal plastic cement or super glue unless it was the non blooming type.

  6. Heheh, that little instructions sheet kinda scared me a little. Something about painting the little parts in prime colors before assembling for final details.

If my modeling skills didn't suck, I'd buy and build this for an awesome display piece...which is just like saying, "If I could fly and punch through walls, I'd put on some tights and become a superhero."

Just wear the tights. The rest will come with practice :p

  7. G'day. I've got a few excess kits I'd like to sell. All prices are in $A. PayPal only for OS please (no fees).

Edit: Just a note for all our US members. Unlike Japan who basically gave up trying to deal with the paranoia of sending items to the US, AusPost has decided to profit from it and has whacked on a $9 "Security Fee" to all parcels over 1lb sent to the US via airmail so please factor that in if you are considering any of my items. The rest of the free world is OK.

All kits are new unless otherwise stated.

    Macross

    1/48 VF-1S Strike Ultimate Detail kit. $250

Please note this kit a Copymaster recast. THIS IS NOT AN ORIGINAL.

This kit is new but is not in the original floppy box. I have put in a solid plastic container.

It does not have metal undercarriage or flap parts like the original, they are resin. Apart from that it seems to be a pretty fair copy.

    Hasegawa 1/72

VF-1S Strike Battroid Minmay Guard $40

VF-1D Virgin Road (original issue) $25 SOLD

Popbox 1/6 scale Hikaru Ichijo flight suit figure $50

#0766 of 3000. This figure has never been removed from the box and all the extras (patch & dog tags) are included.

    Nadesico

Bandai 1/48 High grade Akatuki Custom $15

Bandai 1/48 High grade Aerial Battle Frame $15

    Patlabor

Bandai 1/35 Master Grade Patlabor Ingram Special Set with patrol light flashing unit. (Has flashing shoulder lights). $45

    Thanks for looking.

  8. In a different universe, where the SV-51 and VF-0 were competing against each other as designs, and not on opposite sides of a war (like Project Supernova) what design do you think would have come out on top and why?

I will stir the pot and start the debate by suggesting the SV-51 because of its close quarters battle advantage given by the periscope.

Who ever the script writers want to win.

  9. Thanks. It's surprising the difference a bit of paint and the extra markings make. Out of the box this thing looks terrible. No contrast on the miles of white plastic, quite boring in fact.

As a whole I think Bandai missed the boat with this kit. They could have done so much with it but didn't although if they had then they wouldn't be able to milk the ever suffering Gundam modelling community with a version 1.5 then version 2  . I hope the Zaku is a bit better.

  10. I guess this is the closest thing to an appropriate thread to bring this up:

Is anyone here in to 1/3 scale dolls? For the last few day's I've had an odd compulsion to try and put together one of those 22inch VOLKS Dollfie (I blame Danny Choo <_< ). It could start coming together in the next couple weeks if I'm not able to talk myself out of it.

Do I see a crack in the closet door opening :p :P :p

  11. Please allow me to present my humble attempt at a Mega Gundam using those headache inducing techniques such as painting, decaling & top coating ;)

    post-3605-129067961772_thumb.jpg post-3605-129067968825_thumb.jpg post-3605-129067975535_thumb.jpg post-3605-129067983077_thumb.jpg post-3605-129067989679_thumb.jpg post-3605-129067996154_thumb.jpg

The kit is really not much more than an oversized HG model. While making it I dragged out a HG RX-78 kit I had and started to build it just to see how similar they are. While I was doing that my RG RX-78 arrived so I started that as well. I then thought let's do a comparison of all the different kits so with a dredge through the cupboard and an order with HW Japan I now have 8 more RX-78's on the go  1 original 1/144, 1 FG 1/144, 1 HGUC, 1 HGUC 30th Anniversary (done that in real type colours), 1 RG, 1 MG v1 (also in real type colours), 1 One Year War MG v1.5 & 1 MG v2. I've got 4 to go and once I've finished I'll post some comparison photos.

  12. G - System already does color molded models though. Their 1/60 GP-04 series, as well as the gigantic 1/35 Ex-S (the new version) are all color molded. Even the new 1/72 kshatriya will be color molded. All one really has to do is to do simply clean up procedures and maybe a top coat on the finished model to have a decent looking resin kit.

They do look a LOT better with fully painted features though.

Look at these links if your interested:

    http://www.g-system-shop.com/product_info.php?scale_id=11&products_id=119

    http://www.g-system-shop.com/product_info.php?scale_id=11&products_id=124

    http://www.g-system-shop.com/product_info.php?scale_id=9&products_id=110

There's no way I'd pay $400++ for a kit and not paint it, colour molded or not.

  13. is AmiAmi a good store to buy from? I noticed their prices are better than HLJ but I have never used them. Have any of you. Whats their shipping like to Canada

I've found one of the best places to get GunPla from is HW Japan. Bandai kits are ALWAYS at least 20% off and most times are 30 or more off. Their web site is a bit flakey but if you know the name of the kit their search engine works fine and as they say, look up the details on a better web site then order from us. A bit cheeky but it works for me :p The site is run by model kit company Aoshima and they have a bit more flexible mailing options in that they use normal SAL and don't force you to use EMS once the package size goes over SAL small parcel like HLJ and few other sites do. Sorry if this is OT but I've been using them a couple of years now and they dump all over HLJ and any other site I've used. One other thing, they also give you reward points so every so often you can pick up a free HGUC kit (or whatever takes your fancy) :)

  14. My understanding is, as already noted here, that this law will not effect established stores.

So, if you order from your tried and true sources, you should be okay.

    Gee thanks

Couldn't stay quite for long could you

You're not related to Ryno are you

  15. Can someone on this thread describe how much better / cooler the conversion pieces are over the ones they're replacing in the MG kit?

A lot of the B-Club conversions take the frame of common kit such as the GM and allow you to build versions / variants there are no kits for. They also add features of one line to another line such as putting MG features on HG kits and visa versa. "Better / cooler" is subjective really and seeing as B-Club is owned by Bandai I think it's a bit of a take. They charge you and arm and a leg for the resin conversion when they could have made the kit in plastic and in all likelihood the damn thing will come out in a few years in MG or HG form anyway. Also a lot of the so called conversions are only new hands.
