  1. geez and this coming from the guy who was into the shadow chronicles, and would rather sleep and watch futurerama while I was just watching the raw version.

You got a problem with what I watch and I do?

Err, I think it's probably a pretty safe bet that we all noticed this. :D.

    Graham

    Make me feel stupid. :p

Yeah, you can probably guess that they might mimic the minmay falling down scene in the next episode.

I'm just curious why they didn't use the cover shield of the colony earlier when the attack first began.

At the risk of sounding completely clueless...which in this case, I suppose I am, but is there a link to something that describes what the time/space event in 1995 was? The Compendium doesn't list anything for it.

    Thanks!

I didn't think anything happened in 1995, can you be more specific?

    Edit: Extra quote.

  2. Not sure if anyone caught this because I didn't bother to read the whole thread but did anyone notice how the story went out?

A battle occurs outside the ship, theres a concert going on, alarm to evacuate sounds off, enemy invades ship, hikaru schemed VF-25 comes in, pilot dies (excuse that XD), main character shoots enemy in gearwalk mode to save a girl.

Its almost played out exactly like

    the start of DYRL?

    :o !

Can probably guess out what happens next.

  3. It ACCEPTS 1080p, but it'll still downscale and show it as 720p (actually, 768p). Several 32's that are not a Sharp 1080 do the same. 32's that can't accept 1080p will just go nuts or show a blank screen if you try to give them 1080p. But among 32's, only a Sharp 1080p set can actually show 1080p at 1080. (And I looked again today, and still didn't see a difference--but the source and screen settings seemed especially bad today, probably due to the constant influx of Xmas buyers--I'm going to look at Sears tomorrow, generally a better setup) I was mainly comparing the Samsung LNT3253 and Panasonic TC32LX700 today (they were side by side this time). Most of the time was spent pressing the 700's "120hz demo" button and trying to compare. The 700's own self-generated superimposed scrolling text showed an amazing improvement, but all other things looked very similar. I'd really like to see a actual scrolling text test, but I don't think any demo has that. Just let me hook the TV up to CNN or ESPN or something.

I haven't looked closely at the HL67 (but I plan to---it's just always way up high or disconnected or something--never gotten a GOOD look). I would probably say "it's the cheapest of the good 32's".

Ishimaru--as you and I are looking for the same thing, have you downloaded the manuals of any TV you're considering from the manufacturer's website? You can often get a lot of info from them, and find out things you otherwise wouldn't know until you actually bought it. (Like what settings are in the menu, the remote layout, input layout, etc). I've got the 32S3000 and 32M3000 manual, 32HL67, 32XL700, 3253H, 32XBR4, etc.

Ah, well thats just great, then whats the point of pointing out the 1080 option if its just going to blank out, attract buyers or something? I don't think I would need it anyways since I'm not that far away from my TV set.

My local Best Buy had the 32HL67U available, it seemed pretty good, not sure maybe the BB dudes didn't tweak the settings correctly but it is worth what it is worth though.

As for the manuals, I never knew they were even available online. I'll take a look, I was generally looking for more information beyond the specs that amazon or any other site provides. I'll check out the manual for the 32HL67U and so forth, if my budget expands I'll take a look at higher priced models.

  4. Yeah, it was for Memorial Day 2010. The Superman logo over the Batman logo. I thought that wa s nice touch.

I agree that the last 1/4th of the movie loses focus right when it's trying to clear things up. There's so much that could've been used like

Will Smith says that the infected have de-evolved and that there is nothing human, yet fails to notice that A) the leader one was pissed because his lady got snatched and wanted her back, and B) that the leader guy used dogs, which were clearly under his command. That shows quite a bit of intelligence and a remnant of humanism (as well as the continuing relationship that man and dog share even when infected). We discussed this afterwards and felt it was eiither due to a poor script, or that Smith's character was so caught up on being alone, human, and wanting to heal them, that he failed to see there was still something left. His suicide/martyrdom at the end was simply too rushed. This movie really did need 30 more minutes and, like

Chrono dais, maybe the director's cut will fix that.

It was still sad when he had to kill Samantha.

    Human behavior not human actions.

  5. Whoah, I think you might have. If you click the Signature Proof link it shows that someone signed for your package upon delivery. Good luck getting this worked out.

Well I called Fedex just now it seems like it was shipped to the wrong location and they are filing are pickup on the order to redirect back to Zionsville.

They said if it wasn't retrievable I could file a claim, what would happen if it came back to that.

So much for getting it back.

I'm not going to go and buy another scratched copy of the game... <_<

  6. No, an lcd screen has X number of pixels on it and that won't change. That doesn't mean it can't accept inputs for different resolutions, it will just cheat and stretch the image, if you want full screen, or it will show the image as a smaller "screen" inside the screen... you know, like if you're watching a video file that's at a lower resolution than the your monitor is set for, it will show as a small image surrounded by black. and then you can zoom the image, make it fit player, etc... same concept with the TV.

Just get the 1080p set, you can't go wrong and your 360 will look great on it.

Ah, well I kinda knew that. :p

But I'm not sure about purchasing a 1080p set though, the cheapest one I can find is the 32" Aquos which is the actual size I'm looking for to fit into my room. Not sure about it though, I don't want to blow 1.2k even though my 360 will look nice, my budget just does not fit it. :(

But most 360 games output 720p, so showing it on a 1080p set is kinda pointless, since it'd have to downscale everything. I'd assume scaling 1080 to 720 takes more time than scaling 720 to 768 (more pixels to deal with). More lag.

Also, video games don't render "different sizes" for different resolutions. For the same 360 game, running it in 480i, and 720p, on a CRT, 720p, and 1080p set, will all have the exact same dimensions, and aspect ratio. No black bars. (unless it's a forced 16:9 game on a 4:3 set).

    AFAIK.

PS--Ishimaru---there is almost no set currently made that has a truly native 720p resolution. The vast majority of "720p" are actually 1366x768. Yet almost all 360 games are 720p. You don't see massive amounts of posts about people complaining about scaling and incompatability of the 360 with every HDTV ever, do you? The TV's out there are really 768, and 1080. Your 360 is going to have to upscale regardless of what you buy. And personally, I'd go with the least amount of scaling.

Well thats just interesting, but aren't most 360 games coming out now utilizing 1080p? (Mass Effect for example):p

And why wouldn't sets be truly native to 720p, is it because they can downscale and upscale 480p, 1080i...?

But yes David I hardly ever about any incompatibility issues with the 360 on HDTV sets, most are just compliments of how good it looks on it.

The current sets I'm looking at is the Toshiba (Generally for price) and the Samsung, and the Aquos if I had the consideration and money.

Any ideas, I know how nice 1080p would look with my 360, but it wouldn't make much of a difference with the other sets if I was only a few feet away.

Sorry I'm not much of a expert on this, generally I don't want to buy when it comes to HD since it's something completely new to me and something that I have never experienced.

  7. never trust the store displays unless you can verify the input and adjust the settings yourself. For example, at all the BB around my area, the HD demo units look like crap. The pictures are grainy and the sound is jacked compared to the BD display which always looks good. Thing is, I have a lot of those demo movies at home and they don't look anything like.

And don't buy them at Fry's. Look on the net, I bought my samsung on amazon foe 30% less than retail and saved myself a grip on tax. or wait until CC has one of their crazy sales.

I'm not trusting retail prices, I just use them as a reference to what I'm going to be buying online.

But I'm seriously considering the Samsung, good quality and price.

LCD monitors (as well as LCD HDTVs) have one set resoultion. Any other resolution is either scaled or unsupported. Most LCD computer monitors that support 1080p, aren't true 1920x1080 displays. They often have a native resolution 1920x1200 (with an aspect ratio of 16:10 compared to HDTV's 16:9). This will often result in slight pillarboxing.

What will be used with the monitor? Will it be a game console or HD player?

So if its only set on its native resolution I can't do anything about it?

I'm setting up my 360 on it.

  8. pretty much all HD sets now will do HDMI and any that does 1080p will definitely support it. For LCDs, you can't go wrong with the big 2, Sony and Samsung but Sharp is also very good and more competetively priced than the other 2.

you'll want to consider the benefits of 120 hz sets. Since film is shot at 24 FPS, the 120hz sets can reproduce 1080p at 24 FPS natively, instead of some odd FPS between 30 and 24fps which can create orphaned pixels or slow downs in certain areas of the picture. As far as I know, 120 hz isn't even a fully supported standard, so you're milleage may vary. I know people who swear by it and I know people who swear they can't see the difference.

The newer Samsung sets have this shiny/glossy screen thing going on. Apparantly, they changed the way their back lighting was handled and the matte diffusion screen was no longer needed and hence dropped. This isn't a big deal if you're TV room can be darkened or you can control the lights, but if you have lots of windows or something, it's definitely something to consider. However, the samsung screens as a result, tend to have really good light distribution across the screen. The regular way, high intensity lamps with a diffusion screen tended to result in subtle "hot spots" where the back lighting was stronger in one area than in others. All lCDs really have this flaw except for the newly emerging LED backlit screens which have more even light distribution as well as better contrast ratios since specific regions of the screen can dynamically have their back light cut to 0, giving unheard of contrast ratios... like 1,000,000 to 1.

Went to Frys to take a look at the TVs, and my are they noticeably the same.

Sony seems to have the better quality on the much more expensive sets but Samsung looks pretty damn impressive, Sharp looked good too.

Thing is, they are all out of my price range. :p
