1. Revell Germany is indeed completely different from Revell USA; while the USA stuff are usually reissues of older Revell and Monogram models, Revell Germany is even more of a mixed bag. Their line consists of -reissues of older (sometimes VERY old) kits from Revell -reissues of older kits from other sources like Monogram, Lindberg, Heller, Italeri, several Eastern European companies, even some Pyro and Frog stuff -shared molds with Italeri -lately lots of good quality Hasegawa stuff with Revell decals and instructions -Revell´s own new kits: these range from excellent to poor - they all look like the newest Hasegawa stuff but sometimes they screw it up: The 1/48 Catalina´s tail is far too thick, their He-111 has swept-back inner wings, their new 1/72 Spitfire is missing the "gull wing" shape, their new 1/144 F-18 Hornet has a neat detailed cockpit but the scale is 1/144 in width and 1/120 in length - some of the folks there seem to have problems reading a plan.. Another thing is that they are sometimes selling good kits and bad kits of the same subject side by side, e.g. they currently have 2 1/144 F-14s, one brandnew and with lots of details, the other one is the old Crown kit, the worst F-14 EVER. Price is the same. Before buying a Revell Germany model, I recommend reading all available reviews first.
2. I have that one, it is just a reboxed ARII 1/72 Tomahawk. IIRC it was one of the later issues in the Robotech series and wasn´t around for too long. It came out together with the 1/72 Glaug. I think this was the only Destroid released by Revell except for the 1/100 Tomahawk that came with the Factory kit.
3. This is looking cool man, finally I get to see my own kit almost finished! Too bad I´m too busy to devote some time to my own model. Seems your "accident" didn´t prevent you from creating an excellent paint job!
4. When you posted this I was on holiday so I´m a bit late in joining the cheerful crowd but- this is too awesome for words! That kit is great and you did it justice! Usually most of the Macross/other anime kits are painted in a clean and unweathered finish but your "heavy use" paint scheme is outstanding! That Bower/Anderson style is evident - interestingly, if finished that way, the whole design of the craft, despite being japanese, shows quite a resemblance to those great Gerry Anderson vehicles, imagine a U.F.O tank next to it! Great work! How do you manage to maintain this qualiy level while cranking out so many kits in a short time?
5. Hi Berttt, I thought of the Cherry Picker Truck and the little 6-wheel vehicle, both of which came in the IMAI 1/100 Factory set, and maybe the other 6-wheel all-terrain crew vehicle that was used on mars..
6. More progress, I tried to deepen the driver´s seat compartment a bit, but of course the front wheel wells have to stay... still very shallow. I slaughtered a WW2 pilot and when stretched a bit the legs seem to fit. Just ordered lots of Preiser figures, maybe I try to sculpt Roy as he was the driver in Ep.3 of SDF TV, but for that big guy I need to stretch all the limbs I suppose... I glued two wheels from Takara´s Dougram Jeep (right) together and made a new tread profile and new wheel hub (left). I´m just making a mold to get the other five. Of course I won´t forget the Cola machine, Bromgrev!!
7. That is a beautiful little vehicle! The size of the rear wheels looks quite OK to me, besides, would bigger ones still fit? I have started with my crew vehicle, thought there´d be no problems with the plans but guess what, there is anime magic even here! Now I know why IMAI chose to make the body too high and the wheels so small - the driver needs to sit ABOVE the front wheel, there is not enough space for the passenger compartment to fit between the wheels cause they are so wide... The car body, according to the lineart, is so shallow in height that there is hardly any space for the driver to sit IN the car, he´s more like sitting ON the car! Still, I decided to make it look like the lineart, I really hope that I can fit a driver figure into this.
8. Good colour choice, that German blue looks lighter than the usual Navy blue but I like it very much. Hope it will be dry soon... too much humidity sucks, same over here, my super glue thickens and dries before I can even use it!
9. Most of my Oberth molds are still good for a dozen kits and I have made replacements for the more worn out ones, so I thought I ask if there are still some people interested in the kit. The price is still EURO 65 plus shipping. For those not familiar with the kit, here is a pic, but I´m sure many of you are already following neptunesurvey´s build-up thread. If you are interested post here or PM me, the kit should be available again in a few weeks.
10. This is a cool thread! I´m looking forward to see some more pics! BTW a light grey is better than plain white IMO, too much prime colours and contrast might make the model look a bit toyish. I used a very light grey on mine, IIRC it was the Vietnam era underside grey as seen on Phantoms, F-100s etc.
11. That towing vehicle is looking great so far Valkyrie! I want at least one! I´ve just come back from holiday and now I´m starting with the 6-wheel crew vehicle. I have the IMAI 1/100 kit in front of me but, looking at the lineart, it appears way off, the upper body is too high and the wheels are too small. I´ve made a scale drawing and it appears that I can use the wheels of the "cherry picker truck" from the IMAI set - they even have the right tread pattern, but I need to scratchbuild the hubs. I hope to have something to show in a couple of days.
12. Looking great so far, very fine detail considering the tiny size! As you say, a lot of thought will have to be put into casting with these all-around-detailed parts, especially on the thinner areas. I´m looking forward to see more of this!
13. Just my personal opinion, and I have to admit that if a model looks spot on you don´t have to change the shape just for the sake of it - but essentially it should be true to my own envisioning not someone else´s before I consider producing it. The lesser known Macross designs and the few linearts leave a lot of room for personal interpretation. BTW what Mospeada kit are you thinking of?
14. I don´t like recasts, but using an existing kit as a base might be a good starting point. The model does of course not qualify as "new sculpt" with a couple of panel lines added, it should be more like the "Orange Collection" VF-1 kits - they started as IMAIs but ended up with different body lines, detailing etc., it is justified to call them new kits IMO. I could imagine doing this. And with enough demand the counterpart Karyovin to follow (I like that one even more) - if someone can tell me where that thing has its landing gear stored.... But still, I´m going to start with some of those cars. And the Cola Machine!
15. Sorry Fly4victory, forgot to PM you sooner! My apologies.
16. Too bad I´m too broke to have a holiday AND this kit... but at least I want to see lots of pics, a build-up thread and several dioramas! even if it means I´m gonna cry if I see this beauty!
17. I'll take five of each. Yeah the big one isn't necessary actually, I'd start with the little one you have in the pics. Please please please do these! 409441 I´ll be on holiday for 2 weeks - think I will take the PM book and the old 1/100 models with me, I should find some time to draw plans in 1/72!
18. Thanks a LOT Mika! With that little "s" lacking I could try forever! BTW have PMed ALL the members on the interest list now but there are quite a few who have not replied yet - so if you are on the list and STILL have no PM but WANT a Ghost kit, please contact me and I´ll send you the details again.
19. I need some help please! xtoys is on the interest list but I cannot find him with the "members" search. Isn´t he a member anymore or has he changed hs MW name? I´d really like to PM him.... any hints to his whereabouts appreciated!
20. I´d really like to make these: - the big one is cool, but this will be a very big kit! - all of these with the exception of the airfield truck of course. The smaller ones would make a great set I think. The cilvilian cars are also cool, maybe for a second set.... and of course I will build a Cola vending machine no matter what!
21. Hmm, I have no clue about that one. Now don't forget the legendary Petit cola vending machine. 407995 That Cola machine was the starting point of the whole figure/vehicle set idea! Roy and Hikaru with their cola cans looking at Minmay´s "nice landing gear" (Roy, according to the german dub) -plus the annoying kid of course.
22. Are you talking about the "DL-88 Centipede" on p.166? I didn´t know its purpose, but it is a real monster, about 6m tall I guess - awesome, bigger than a destroid! I need to find suitable wheels for this one, maybe the ones from a Dougram Bromry Van come close... (in 1/48 scale I could use the wheels fron a 1/32 Revell Atomic Cannon kit) But this one should be a separate model, if it was included in a set it would make it VERY expensive!
23. I believe that Mr. Moscato is planning a run of the old destroids actually, he's says that's his next project. A Cheyenne would be so sweet though. Good to know, he´ll have them finished in no time and in good quality, I´ll stick to the Cheyenne then. I'll send you my Preiser 1/72 figs if that will speed up the process. Thanks for the offer, but I strongly hope to get them here at last! I mean if they are MADE here, they should be available... Still want a full vehicles set too, I'd order like 5 sets dude. Wow cool... but what does "full set" mean? Well the 6wheeler for pilot transportation of course, a trailer for damaged mecha like in the 1/100 factory set? There was also some kind of airfield car in the set and a lorry with a moveable working platform... anything else? Globals representative car from ep.1,.... the lorry that helped getting the VF-1D out of way, wasn´t there a fish on it??? I´m sure there were lots more, need to check the Perfect Memory book again.... loads of vehicles 407832
24. Well I have several ideas.... the little people set in 1/72, but I haven´t been able to track down those Preiser base figures, everyone seems to sell them in 1/87 but no 1/72 so far, but after my holidays I´m going to order them. and Destroids, definitely. The Cheyenne is almost complete in my head, just need to do it in plastic The older ones would be cool, too. I need to duplicate and improve the IMAI Defender´s legs anyway -I want them as replacements for my ARII Tomahawk. While I´m at it, I could re-build the rest of the Tomahawk (too under-detailed and boxy) and make a Phalanx as well..... And, as an architectural modeler whose customers are all broke, I could take my time and make a model of a certain Chinese restaurant....
25. I´m glad you like it. The gear is resin with aluminium powder and it should be stronger than the white stuff. While not as sturdy as metal, it should carry the weight of the kit easily - I´ve tested it with an additional 500g weight put onto the fuselage and it did not bend or break after 2 days. As for the Oberth, I should have some available by mid-July.
