You may be right. Maybe the person who said they wanted the Regult to open and have a pilot inside was totally down with just an opening door and a molded in/painted immobile pilot inside. If they could pull it off without it looking cheap and ugly it might indeed be cool... but no matter how you slice it it would have to make the toy more expensive so I would still question the logic. I don't think the Robot Damashii toys sold very well either so while it's evidence of a cheaper solution it's not necessarily evidence that there's adequate return on investment. If you think a regult doesn't need articulation, pull out the Toynami Vinyl toy and try playing with it.

I think you got the gist of it. More parts+more complexity= more price. Bad guys and background characters sell poorly. Given those facts and my desire to see this line be successful and lead to more obscure toys, I hope Bandai focuses on making a good looking well articulated toy without a ton of gimmicks (and thus at a lower price point) so that more people are willing to take the plunge. With the VF-1 they should go nuts. It's a big audience that's accustomed to plunking down top dollar... on the other mechs in the line I hope we get awesome toys that focus on the core elements/articulation of the mechs... not the premium gimmicks we should expect in our Arcadia/DX toys. In no way do I think a Regult toy with a pilot and cockpit is a dumb idea. I would love for Arcadia to do that at 1/60 and I'd pay top dollar for it. I just don't think this is the line for that and I think there's a lot of people already indicating they think this line can be small DX toys without thinking that small DX toys would cost about as much as actual DX toys and still have some compromises for the scale.

I think we're allowed to disagree without it being mischaracterized as something more.

You need a hinge, a door, a guy, a place for the guy to sit, stronger joints, is the guy articulated, what kind of detail in the cockpit? Now you're doubling the price for a gimmicks that probably wouldn't look that great and some people wouldn't use at all. It might even make the toy fragile or fiddly. On a DX toy I could see it but I would rather own two at 1/100 for diorama purposes than one with lots of concealed internal bits.
-
I agree... it's 1/100 scale, Yamato couldn't make a cockpit work at 1/60 scale. I want the toy to look good, be articulated, and not break the bank. A bonus would be different weapons included.

Slapped on paint + lighting... I'm sure the panel lines will be the same as the 0D.

Pretty sure it's still attaching via magnet, in the front at the very least. The slot in the back would make sure it was aligned properly after the magnet took hold.

I don't think I have a problem with a movie where Charlize Theron is a sex slave traveling with other sex slaves in a post-apocalyptic future. It sounds like I wouldn't mind Mad Max playing second fiddle in that set-up.Girls on the run in a shtty future could be pretty compelling.

More articulation is good, not bad.

That's a pretty circuitous route! I'm planning on giving this a thorough comparison to the first release in the coming week or so.

YES! Mine has finally graced me with its presence! Hopefully I'll get to play with it soon.

100% agree on black wheels... I had a black Corvette at one point in my life and was in a very black phase so I considered doing black wheels... then I randomly saw a Corvette just like mine with the black wheels and realized how important a little contrast is. Maybe a bright car with black wheels would work... but all black didn't work for me.

I dunno, I saw a satin black Lamborghini at Stanford last summer and it looked amazing. A guy parked his black R8 next to it and circled the Lamborghini several times before grabbing his clubs... which got me wondering if you could fit golf clubs in the Lamborghini.

I think there are going to be a fair amount of people let down by the Hi-Metal R line at this price range and this difficulty level in obtaining the toys unless there are numerous improvements over the original HM line. They were great 1/100 toys in my estimation... but 1/100 makes them a totally different beast from the premium renewal DX toys that this preorder window felt more in line with (and it's pretty ridiculous for those toys also).

A few years ago it was said that brown was going to go extinct as a car color... it has since rebounded significantly. Wouldn't be my choice for a high visibility sports car though.
-
Man... I still don't have mine . I'm worried maybe NY scribbled the address on it funny.

I suppose anything is possible. It might even be possible that they were actually able to leverage the old molds on the cockpits like they did with the guns and thus, that would be a way of saving money and keeping the feature too.
-
I very much doubt they're using exactly the same CAD on these toys as the originals. Once they change anything to the CAD there's no longer a benefit to copying the 'old CAD'. I think it really is more a thought process like "Yamato had this on a much cheaper toy, we need to have it on our super expensive toy." I don't think you can make an argument that something that necessitates another mold/part and additional assembly in any way would SAVE money. We're all paying extra for something that's only visible for a moment during transformation. Seemed silly on the Yamato toy... even sillier now. That said, it's not like I'd buy another one if this toy cost $5 less so that's probably just as good an answer as anything else.

Do you prefer TV or DYRL paint scheme?
jenius replied to potatotomato's topic in Movies and TV Series
I don't think it's clear that Milia killed Kakizaki... we just know it was one of the lady folks. The Q-Rau is a perfect example of why I'd go TV over DYRL. -
The old ones do have it... and it's pointless. If they could have charged me $5 less but ditched that gimmick I would have been happy. At the price range their at I wish they'd get a little more conscious of the returns on the gimmicks so they could save a few bucks... but I guess they figure people are willing to pay so might as well go for broke.
-
The rotating cockpit gimmick is so dumb... I hope they didn't have to make this toy more complex/expensive to accommodate this gimmick everyone will only see momentarily during transformation.
-
For sure they would, just like if you did a chargeback with your credit card.
-
Or... HLJ will be canceling lots of orders.

Fingers crossed you're right! I have a new photo rig so I'm really looking forward to getting this buy and playing with it!
