Actually, it was Musashi that got killed. Again.* (*Musashi was killed at least once in the original series and on nearly every Getter Robo theatrical feature.) I confused those guys' names again.
-
Definitely agreed! The plot went out the window somewhere in ep-1 or something and it was all bad-ass old-fashioned ass-kicking action from the Getters. The death of Benkei still kinda makes me wonder why it was necessary to do so, tho. The ending was a little too corny, tho, imho. Overall, Shin Getter Robo is total fun old-school robot-action with enough angst and more than enough action to make it worth the purchase. --treatment--

Yes, there's one episode late in the series where the animation and art went primitively bizarre. I'm not quite sure if it was intentional since the whole episode was dealing with the grey-area emotional issues of one of the lead characters (won't tell u who. ) or if the animation-house just went on strike or something.

I passed on an available EVA renewal-box
treatment replied to treatment's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Bummer, dude. I'm in Southern Cali. SD. The marketplace is called Mitsuwa Market. I dunno the name of the store that has the EVA-Renewal box, but is inside of Mitsuwa Market. Is the mitsuwa market place your talking about in LA, or is it in SD? I'ma have to check the LA mitsuwa anyway. I just wanna look at it in person. No way am I shelling out 425 for dvd's like that. It's gotta be made of platinum for me to even think about buying it. The one I saw was in SD and only had one copy. Maybe the LA store has more copies or something. -

So yesterday (9/10/03), I was checking out the local japanese market to buy pocky almonds and, as always, wandered into manga/dvd/audio store inside. There I saw, still in it's still-sealed brown packaging-box, with pretty much an un-noticeable profile until you stop and try to read and then realized what the label on the box was stating: Neon Genesis Evangelion Renewal boxset. The swanky uber-kewl red-foldout Region-2-only release that I've only seen pics. I can't believe it. It's supposed to be sold-out in Japan and not available here in the States. Yet, there it is. Still sealed. Since there was only two customers there at that time (including me) and the other dude was busy pre-ordering some Japanese music or something, I asked the other clerk, non-chalantly, how much the brown box-package (the EVA renewal box) was. The clerk looked it up, checked his price-table on it, and shake his head to me with some hesitation. I was expecting an answer that it's already sold or is not available for sale, but the answer was neither: I'm not sure if the Renewal-box package is still there today. But I passed on it. I feel kinda weirded out about it, but I just can't afford that much on it. I'm still saving up for the 1/48 FAST-packs and other stuff. Would any of you other EVA-fans pass on it, too, given the $425+tax price?

and Ishtar!Don't forget Ishtar! And Isamu Dyson. The most bad-ass pilot since Max Jenius and Roy Focker, not to mention the best bad-ass enigmatic devil-may-care-attitude character before Spike Spiegel. btw, Plus also introduced and gave to most of us Yoko Kanno's excellent music-compositions. All the Plus music are still golden to this day! hahaha! true, true.

I'm still heavily bothered by the new Galactica having Starbuck as a woman. Lt. Starbuck was one of my (and alot of others' I know of) early heroes when I was growing up. The way he hits on and conducts himself among the women was just _the_ irreplaceable mark of Galactica to me and to alot of other boys who grew up with it. It was total sacriledge to have Starbuck dishonored by turning this classic sci-fi character into a woman. Why can't the writers of this new Galactica on Sci-Fi just friggin add an additional strong female-character into the story instead of desecrating the memory of Starbuck? Just way beyond comprehension, i tell yah.
-
For shame! Starbuck was played by none other than the Faceman himself, Dirk Benedict. Now for your pennence, I condemn you to watch the second season of Buck Rogers, Hawkman and all. Edit: You edit quickly, my son. But not quickly enough. yeah. rol! for some odd reason, i was thinkin Starbuck's/Face's name was Baxter instead of Dirk B. hahaha! I feel so old now. hahaha! --treatment--
-
Not old enough to remember the show correctly. You may be confusing some scenes from Galactica 1980 in with the original show. never saw Galactica 1980. edit: ahhh, now i see. The boy-genius stuff was the Galactica-1980. Yup. I stopped watching Galactica then and there. Galactica without Starbuck (Dirk Benedict, i think) was just not the Galactica I used to watch. edit2: dirk benedict! geezus. I can barely remember the real name of Face! hahaha! --treatment--
-
iirc, i stopped watching Galactica the moment the kid became the supreme commander or something. that was the lamest move back then. at least, Starbuck was extremely funny and the sexual innuendo was so rampant in the early episodes or something. damn i feel old. rol!

FYI. As reported in http://animenewsnetwork.com/columns/tankobon.php?id=3 , the manga for the fan-favorite Azumanga Daioh is scheduled to be out this month. ADVFilms is releasing it and some folks from AnimeonDVD-forum already had their copies. Bastards. The stores I called in over here at SD doesn't have inventory-stock on it, yet. I'm not a manga-fan, but this is one particular manga that I will so definitely get. The Azu anime R1-dvd is scheduled for next year release, btw.

saw this from another forum i hang out in. http://www.dvdplanet.com/product_listing.a...SMailer20030908 looks very gnarly. gonna be released around 10/21/03. and it's the classic Battlestar Galactica. Not the upcoming new mangled one from Sci-Fi channel where Starbuck is a friggin girl. add: they say the red-light works, too!

official announcement at http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=4144 Region-1 Nadesico Movie!!!! woo hoooo!!!! ANN's encyclopedia-entry with the region-1 cover: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encycloped...ses.php?id=2177
-
There's only two there in your list that's really worth getting in region-1 dvd: [*] EVA [*] Nadesico I'll add in a couple more: [*] Dai-Guard [*] FLCL [*] Irresponsible Captain Tylor TV I suggest the way/sequence to watch 'em is: Tylor -> Nadesico EVA -> Dai-Guard FLCL Nadesico is a parody of Gundam-0079, SDF-Macross, and Star Blazers/Yamato. Dai-Guard is a parody of EVA and most other 70's robot-anime. Tylor is more or less a parody of Star Blazers. Even tho the above titles are parodies in their most basic premises, they do stand on their own and are quite excellent separate anime by themselves. EVA is EVA. FLCL is FLCL. Both are Gainax at it's finest. Nuff said. --treatment--

I don't know if I can agree with that, especially on the scene in episode 8 where Ibuki freaks out because she didn't get any sleep and Akagi was pissing her off. Also, as mentioned earlier, ADV screwed up on some of the punch lines. For example, in episode 4, Akagi and Ibuki are having a conversation. During the conversation, Ibuki hands Akagi a canned beverage. Then, all of a sudden... (Japanese version) -- Akagi: "Ibuki!" Ibuki: "What is it?" (Akagi looks at the beverage.) Akagi: "Is this a new product?" -- Here's ADV's version: -- Akagi: "Ibuki!" Ibuki: "What is it?" (Akagi looks at the beverage.) Akagi: "Did you get this from insurance?" -- I just finished watching disc 2 and I have to say it gets more hilarious. In episode 9, Dai-Guard has to defeat a balloon-type Heterodyne. And because it falls numerous times while attempting to catch the Heterodyne and is incapable of climbing mountains, Dai-Guard is disassembled and re-assembled at least four times throughout the episode. ADV changed and "tweaked" the English-vocals script quite a bit to make it more American-centric humor, instead of Japanese-centric humor. So you wll find the punch-lines from the various jokes in the Japanese-vocals/Japanese-translation script to be missing here and there. It's kinda like the way the english-vocals on Golden Boy (another ADV title) were more hilarious and better to listen to, and had alot more punchlines than the english-subtitles/japanese-translations. It's something they usually do to the english-vocals in some of their titles. Sometimes it's just good and great (dai-guard, golden-boy, excel, Nukunuku), and sometimes it's a bit crappy in others (Samurai X, FMP, EVA). I watched the whole (disc 1-6) series in japanese and english dubs. Both have their separate charms, especially in the comedy. I normally watch anime in japanese-vocals, but Dai-Guard is one of those few I prefer to listen to the english-vocals. your mileage may vary, however.

ongoing clearance-sale on gundam kits (mg)
treatment replied to treatment's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Have no idea, dude, since I buy from him locally. Anecdotally, tho, the one time I ordered for an out-of-state friend's bday-gift, there weren't any problems reported by my friend at all when the items were delivered. That's the only time I ordered from RSC's online-store, tho. fwiw, I think he uses UPS and USPS for shipping. Oh, and he seems to only ship within the US territories at this time. So Canadian and other non-US region buyers are out of luck this time. Bummer. -
Ok. First off, I'm not affiliated in anyway other than I'm a regular buyer from this store for my gundam-kits. It's the local anime-shop here in San Diego and he's having a clearance-sale right now. I didn't know until yesterday, but I guess the sale started during the last weekend and is still going on. Note that he used to carry Macross (yamato) items and I'd bought my first VF-1J from him, until HG came to his store with some cops or something a couple of years ago or so and made him give up on Macross. Anyway, if you're into Gundam model-kits, check out his clearance-sale at: http://www.rsc-online.com/clearancesale.html This is just a good deal to not inform some of you about it. --treatment--

I feel like I'm discussing this with two Abombz instead of one since you can't seem to remember what you wrote. This is what you said from top of page-3: I understand where you are coming from, but BW is a one hit wonder, they made Macross and nothing else. I replied with a link. The link says BigWest was involved in production of both Tylor and Macross-TV. Unless you're reading something else on that link I gave you, that link basically debunked your original claim that Macross was the only hit of Big West and that Big West is one-hit wonder. You don't even know the sequels for Tylor. Basically, you shoot your mouth (or fingers) before you checked on what exactly BigWest actually has in it's portfolio of titles. The ANN-encyclopedia is a wealth of info on anime and stuff and I suggest you use it for reference. Btw, last time I check, Macross was the creation of Studio Nue. No, you just said that without Tomino, there would be no Macross. That is what you said. I thought it was like 1985, but yes, I could care less about the novel since I'm an anime and toy fan, and not a manga-fan or a novel-fan. That really doesn't change the fact that the Sentinels are the best-looking Gundam to get to purchase right now. Regardless if the buyer is even aware of an actual Sentinels-novel. And I personally buy aesthetically-pleasing toys and models and I never ever relied on any novels for those purchasing decisions. Huh? Do you really think BW does not care what the heck HG was doing with their property? Do you really think that there was no reason at all why they gave the DYRL-license to whoever and the MacII-license and the Plus-license to Manga Video, instead of giving them all to HG?And I thought you were joking about Hikaru being angsty. Sheesh! Oh, I don't know. Maybe because MS-8th Team was really that good and the viewers actually like it alot both here and in Japan? I'm sure that thought prolly might have crossed your mind somewhere. How the fugazi the companies know if people gets bored with a series they're broadcasting again to cancel a show? Do they use a ouija-board or a crystal-ball to make that determination? Geezus, Abombz! lol! No, duhh. I'm a Gundam-fan primarily because of the mecha-models. Tomino's storytelling always takes a backseat. It's called polite discussion, Abombz. I really could care less about your dislike of Zero and mostly ignores it when I come across it in the old boards, but when you go on and on and on about how crappy and shitty Zero is without really having a firm foundation about it and all of us here knowing there's only two episodes shown as of yet, it gets a little tiring. To say the least. Even tho I dislike M7, I'm ok with people liking or disliking M7. Heck! I even posted screenshots of what I don't like about M7. I just don't go around disparaging M7 every chance I get like you seem to do whenever Zero gets mentioned. Just take that as a constructive criticism of your vocal Zero-unhappiness. You're probably correct. Right now, I'm just one of those that likes it already, even with only two episodes shown. I just need/want the toys to go along with it. --treatment--
-
Uhmm, how do you mean BW hasn't pursued Tylor? What has that got to do with the price of tea in China again? Are you really saying the Macross stories (TV, DYRL, PLUS, ZERO, and M7) are all Tomino's ideas? Are you actually saying that Kawamori's designs in Macross were not originals at all and that the VF-1S/VF-1A, VF-0, YF-19, YF-21, etc, etc, are all copycats of Tomino's original sketches? I think your Tomino worship is just getting the better of you, Abombz. I could care less about how huge the novel is. Last time I check, it's only within the last two years that 1/100 HG and MG Sentinel models have appeared on US soil and still is limited. And the novel was made like when again? Afaik, Bandai had the Taka-license and they sat on it for a long time. And HG didnt start actively blocking Macross toys until the Toycom/Yamato-incident three years ago or so. We all know that, right? Nope. I believe the UC MS-8th anime was quite popular after Wing and the rx-79g was the hottest kit after Wing. Fwiw, Afterwar-X was popular in the early goings in anime, too, before it's ratings went down. Just that their X's HG model-lines sucked. Also note that Bandai shut down AnimeVillage here in the US and directly marketed Gundam DVDs and merchandises (Wing, Stardust, 0080, 8th MS team) here in the US to maintain and sustain their Gundam franchise. Well, let me put it this way to you, then: I dislike Macross-7, yet I'm not anywhere as vocal about my dislike of it as much as you are vocal about your dislike of Macross-Zero. As do I. I like all of EVA (except the dubs), but I know alot of people don't share that same EVA-liking that I do. I beg to differ. It shouldn't take all of the dvd's to be released for Macross-Zero to get it's attention. I rather have Studio Nue take their time refining the anime than rush Zero. I rather say that Macross-Zero needs to have it's mechas (toys/models) to be out on sale and on display and heavily advertised right now by Yamato or whoever has the toy-license for Zero's popularity in Japan to go up higher. I'm not sure if even Hasegawa has put out any other Zero models other than the Tomcat and the Mig-29 to seed demand for Zero. --treatment--
