I gotta do it since noone else has. LISTEN TO MY SONG!!! -
Ok everyone the colors for this will be Olive drab for the overall body color. WEYERHAUSER GREEN for the yellow/green areas, this is a PollyS railroad acrylic color. And finally Panzer Schwarzgrau for the arm and leg joint pieces. I know the joints are the yellow green color in the animation but i like how it looks on the 1/160 and it will look good on this. Ill cover smaller colors and bits as they come up. Before painting though i have to detail the cockpit hump and finish the rings on the other 2 barrels. I may just add details to the hump and not change the shape.

The best light grey for that is testors model master or acryl light grey.
-
so whats the status on these.
-
Good lord 3 of them. Actually if Mike has reject castings he wouldnt mind selling at a reduced cost i wouldnt mind doing a Macross 0 version of it too

Its a pollyS railroad color i have. I can post the name tomorrow since im heading to bed now. A good copy color would be Tamiya XF-60 dark yellow with a bit of dark green added to green it up a bit. Since the scale is larger i may just paint the yellowish parts straight dark yellow and postshade with some darker green. Did you notice i started to add the 3 rings on each gun barrel too. I had to go to the ER last night because of that. One of the strips i was gluing on to make the ring sprang back and spattered Crazy glue into my eye. They found 2 dots of glue on my cornea. My eye will be ok it just hurt like crazy. Remember guys the dremel tool isnt the only reason to wear safety goggles while building models. I should have the final little details done tomorrow. This is the last time you will see the monster whle until it is fully painted and weathered.

Basic assembly is done. I just have the fine details to do and clean up and its done. Heres a couple pics of mama protecting her baby. In the pic where it says SCARY on the wall that is my TV. Big isnt it That looks good Mech. Is it the IMAI 1/200 scale one? The one in the pics here is the ARII 1/160.
-
I think alot of them were posted in the progress thread of the development of this kit. Youll have to search. My scanner is busted or id post the pics myself.

OK i should begin painting withing the next couple days. SO i thought id put out an idea for a marking. The ARII 1/160 scale version came with "foot art", I have a decal that could work for that left over from my Tamiya Dragon Wagon. Do you guys think i should add that touch or not. Its a 1940s style woman in a red dress reclining. I know the foot art wasnt seen in the animation but it would add a more personal touch to the model. So foot art YES or NO?

A milestone has been reached. I decided that the main cannons would be fine just using the pin to hold them in place. The fit of the brass tube i used is tight enough. All i have to do is dremel the housings out a little to refine the fit of the barrel mount to the body. The arms are held on by their magnets with a pin below the magnet to assist in holding them up. The magnets are strong but since the arms hang down they want to slide off. Magnets have great pull strength but their shear strenght isnt as strong. This model is also well balanced. In these pics it IS standing on its own. I havnt touched the hips yet but seeing how well balanced it is i may see how they fit after painting. It may be simple as putting some paper behind the ball joint to make the fit tight enough. THIS THING IS MASSIVE, and heavy. Be careful working on it, the weight could easily break a finger if it decides to flip backward of forward on you and scissors your finger between the leg and the body.

Heres a drool pic f the main and arm cannons temporary placement. I have also included a pic of the debris covers i made to hide the hllow interior of the arms. I know it isnt in the line art but i drew my inspiration from modern missile systems like the patriot and Tow missiles. The covers blow off when the missile fires.
-
I did something similar. But once i put the piece together i could still see the rough nature of the inside. Instead i took a little artistic license and made some debris covers like you would find on modern day missile systems, similar to the way the Patriot missile system is.

Nah its quite alright. Just thought id ask to be sure you didnt design the area where they mount with a slight curve to it so they would require different thickness. Ill sand the extra off the thicker ones. Thanks.

Pfunk. If you look i never said M7 was a spoof. I meant to say that the IDEA behind SDF TV back in 82 was a gundam spoof. That spoof IDEA was dropped in 82. When M7 came out it seems like Kawamori drew on some of the ideas he had for SDF TV as far as the more comical aspects. -
yup

Mike on the 4 cannons on top i noticed the base pieces are different at the bottom. The ring on the base of the part before the ball is thinner on 2 of them than on the other. Do the thinner ones go on the outside and the thicker ones in the middle or the other way around.
-
Yes with the legs pitched outward at this point it does support itself. It is touchy and still loose but it stands. I dont know how well balanced it will be once the rear portion, arms and cannons are on but the magnets should make up for it. Im going to see if i can source some magnets locally before i go buying them online. There are plenty of hardware stores and such that may carry them. Ill know more tomorow. If i can get the magnets tomorrow expect to see the first rough, unpainted assembly soon.

My wife looked into the room while i was downstairs and all i heard was "HOLY SH!T, So thats why they call it the Destroid Monster"

Honestly this is the most sensible statement yet on M7. Regardless of if you end up liking it or not you are going to give it a full viewing and get your own opinion on it. M7 isnt my personal fave but it does have alot of good funny moments in it and there are some scenes that leave you wanting more. Like Milia showing up in her red VF-1J, or the ORIGIONAL crew of the Destroid Monster powering her back up like the old days. Even seeing Max get his hands on a VF-22 was awesome. There are more scenes like that too. -
Actually im glad you didnt. Im going to flush mount the magnets into the areas so i can click the cannon barrels in place. The base of the barrel will be adjusted so they sit at the "proper"angles. This just makes the job that much easier for me
-
OK here it is tonight. I put the Defender and VF-1S next to it for an idea of scale. I also took closer detail pics of the defender since they were requested.
-
I decided to say frack it and build it with magnets in the design. with that ill be able to take off the arms, legs, and main cannons and pack them in foam seperately in a large footlocker. This way it will get max protection and travel better. I can also ust the footlocker to take it to contests and shows when im back in the world. More pics coming up. Its on its feet(temporarily) im building all the subassemblies so when i install the magnets ill be able to test if they will hold or of ill need more magnets. . No offense to mike but i like the look of the 1/100 feet a little more. The sharp edges i dont like but the toe shape and the indentations on the foot match line art a bit better. Not that this really bothers me much the damn thing is almost 2 feet tall

You mean like i did in this thread already Big F. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...40entry414105

The lower body panels didnt take too much tweaking overall. Id rather have a good firm fit in them than a loose fit where weight stresses would cause cracks to develop in that area. I had planned the same fix on the ball joints myself but i glued mine on to facilitate drilling through both parts and having the hole line up. i am going to drive the rod/dowel in fitst then cap it with a steel pin like a push pin. The pin will be countersunk so it will keep the rounded shape. With the strength of the magnet inside, the friction of the fit and the steel cap on the ball i shouldnt have to glue it in. It will allow th joint to retain its movement.
