  1. So, a person could just about buy 3 model kits for the price of one of the toys. Neither come with armor, though the toy might have an add-on armor set later. Hmmm....but the model kits will likely have kit-bashed or custom made armor unless armored versions are released....

Decisions are hard to make sometimes, but I gotta say I'm leaning towards the models on this one. Any real reason the toys would be better (other than the slight size difference)?

And Image Anime is and has been overpriced in my opinion. I can probably get the kit shipped for the same price as their pre-shipped price. Definitely cheaper than their $60 price.

  2. As others said before, the fighter looks out of proportion, and worst: Looks like a toy. Parts don't fit well, etc.

Actually, if BanDai don't make non-transformating models, I'll not purchase nothing.

That looks like a resin model. Resin models aren't exactly known for being great indicators of the final product. This is Bandai we're talking about here, they know how to make great model kits. I'd really be shocked if the model ended up being as floppy looking as the resin one they are showing.

To me, I don't think it looks all that bad and it will probably cost 1/3-1/2 of what the toy will cost, so I think it'll be a good end product for what I expect the price to be.

So has it been confirmed that there are going to be some non-transforming models too (not that I'm interested in them, just curious)?

  3. Hey,

I had the same thing happen about 2 years ago. It occured during a time when I hadn't accessed my account in about a month (and the hacker somehow mysteriously figured out my password, which would have been really hard). I honestly think Ebay isn't secure and has inside leaks. Either way, they restored my account too after a lengthy live help session. Just for your knowledge, the person was sending spam from my account in various languages too, so it might be the same group that got mine.

  4. I don't think detachable armor would be that hard to make (how many thousands of other toys have detachable armor or pieces). So I just don't see that happening on any toy that Bandai produces other than a model kit (I know some of the gundam kits that have armor don't transform like the FAZZ kit). Even the cheap Banpresto toys had removable armor and I think the one I bought was under $10, so if it can be done on a $10 toy, there's no excuse why a more expensive one couldn't have detachable armor.

  5. Pricing hasn't been announced yet for the 1/60 and 1/100 Frontier toys or the 1/72 Frontier plastic model kits.

    I don't see a 1/60 Full Armor vF-25 being cheap though.

    Graham

That's kind of disappointing that a Bandai product will possibly be very expensive. I was hoping to be able to get one for less than $100, but now I'm guessing it will be more than that. Though I'd gladly settle for a non-perfect transformation palm sized one. :D

  6. MP Starscream is awesome. You're wrong.

    Umm...Original MP Starscream was awesomer!

I really just hope the 1/60's turn out well. Might be the first semi-expensive Macross toys I've bought in years. I really like the look of the fighters, especially with the armors. I haven't visited the thread in awhile, so what price range are we looking at on these?

  7. Okay, just making everyone aware that pulling the toes forward on mine definitely stressed the thin plastic sides of the slide joint. There are now white stress marks visible, so be careful. It also didn't really help the balance at all on mine (or at least from what I could tell).

  8. I think it'll probably run around $60. If you consider how things have gone, you have to assume that Beagle is watching and reading the responses of the Mospeada fans. Most fans think that $60 is about the right price for Ride Armors, so they may be trying to completely take over the market by debuting a nice, well built, affordable toy. Honestly, how many people wouldn't get one for that price assuming there aren't glaring QC issues.

  9. I'm an experienced model builder and I hated these kits with a passion. They are very flimsy (or at least the original ones were, don't know about the re-issues). Mine fell apart all the time and the bike was floppy and loose. I wouldn't spend money on these. Also know that these are glue kits, so unless you feel comfortable with glue, then don't get them. The old ones I have aren't molded in correct shades/colors either, so painting is pretty much required.

  10. Anyone wanna translate the major points of those scans for us that can't read them? I really want to know about the Gurren Lagann with the drills and wings (whether it's a second version coming out or just an upgrade set). And that Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann isn't painted yet, correct?

  11. so I can't blame the retailers for doing the same when Toynami goofs up.

But really, it wasn't Toynami's screw up, it was BBTS's screw up (and from what I understand they generally honor their pre-order prices when they mess up). It clearly states in the e-mail Joel sent everyone that the catalog had "$79.99 minimum". BBTS just assumed minimum meant exactly and popped them up as quickly as possible to draw pre-orders. They took a risk and now are saying they want no share of the blame for the screw up and pre-order customers don't even get a small discount for their mistake to make up for it. Even if I buy a Beta, it sure as hell won't be from BBTS unless they are cheaper or offer pre-order customers a discount of some kind.

In all honesty, I still think the toy isn't worth more than $100 MAX, especially if Toynami goes the smart route and makes most of it hollow (b/c who really wants really heavy parts that serve no purpose other than to stress joints???).

  12. yeah but everyone here jumped on it knowing the price could be wrong... I don't think anyone really expected BBTS or Tam to cover almost half the price of the Beta. The debacle is Toynami's fault.

By the same respect, BBTS posted the price knowing it could be wrong as it was the "minimum" price, but failed to tell customers that information until after they changed the price. Also, there isn't any reason the Beta couldn't have been $80 other than Toynami wanting to milk the cash cow. I honestly thought Toynami figured out how to sell a ton of them for a decent price instead of over-charging. And again, I think BBTS and Toynami should "meet in the middle" to come up with a price for pre-order customers that ordered for the incorrect price.

Grand scheme of things, it's another proverbial feather in Toynami's crap-filled cap.

Already cancelled my pre-order yesterday with BBTS. Nothing personal against them mind you. But it's just business. They offered a ridiculously good price; I placed a pre-order. They changed the price to something else; I went ahead and canceled it. Again, it's just business. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'll probably still wind up getting the Beta (ASSUMING THE PRICE IS REASONABLE). But at this point, I'll probably go with one of the reliable dealers/sellers that posts here on our boards.

Unless BBTS can offer the Beta at a significantly lower price than them, I'll just go with the dealers/sellers I've usually bought my Macross and Mospeada goodies from in the past.

So, which sellers will probably have the lowest cost Beta? I'd be interested in finding one as cheap as possible. Thanks in advance.

  13. Why should BBTS, Twin Moons, or any store have to honor prices when no money actually changed hands? Nobody actually paid for anything, they just made a reservation which they could cancel at any time, for any reason.

    Word of the day: entitlement.

B/c BBTS knew the price might not be $79.99 but put that out as quickly as possible to draw as much business as possible. If you read BBTS's reply, it says $79.99 minimum, which means that's the cheapest. They didn't even note this on their page. I actually suggested to them that they may want to contact Toynami and see if they can come to some kind of agreement on an in-between price for pre-order customers since it's kind of both BBTS's and Toynami's faults. That way, neither company should lose any money, but neither will make a substantial profit off the pre-orders so far. That way, they both take responsibility for a mistake in judgement/business.

  14. Actually, in this case a contingent purchase of an alpha was made due to the pricing of the beta. Now I'm stuck with an alpha without a beta because there's not a chance that I'm paying $149 or more for a beta.

Also Stand-up stores take responsibility for their mistakes rather than shafting their customers. This has happened more than once on products I've preordered from companies and every other company I've had this happen with has "taken it the ass for their loyal customers"

BTW...love the snideness of your remarks. You sound like a real stand up guy....

I actually e-mailed BBTS saying pretty much the same thing. We'll see if they do anything about it b/c it's BS that they changed the price, even if it was only partially their fault. I think a store takes a chance when they assume the price is something instead of inquiring first. BBTS just wanted to put out the pre-order first to get as many people as possible. If the price changes, then they should have to eat the cost difference for putting it out before the price was finalized...
