  1. Lunar! My favorite video game series of all time. As for a tear-jerker, try Lufia (SNES). If Lunar 2 made you cry, Lufia will have you sobbing like a girl.
  2. I think Mospeada's style is more realistic. When authorities go away, people do not form murderous bands that fight to the last man. Anthropology shows that people are more peaceful without authorities or governments. During Katrina, all the talk about raping and murdering was B.S. Even the stories about shooting at rescue 'copters turned out to be propoganda. People mostly formed peaceful groups and helped eachother out.
  3. There's no difference between justice and revenge, except for politics. I couldn't disagree with you more. We love our heroes because they blow sh*t up. Sure, some of our heroes talk a lot of game about justice and liberty, but it always comes down to blowing sh*t up and killing "bad guys". That's pretty psychopathic to me. For every Erin Brokovich we produce, we put out ten Schwarzeneggers, Stalones, Seagals, and Van Dammes. [Edited for retarded mispellings]
  4. Are you talking about Lancer's songs? I can understand if you don't like those. But the BGM was very good, and at least half of it had a classic orchestra sound. Only a few tracks sounded synthetic to me (though surely a lot of it was done on synthesizers). The Robotech BGM flat-out rules.
  5. You're right -- that's one of the theories about Mospeada's ratings.
  6. Whaaaa? Can you say Anime Friend? I'd say, on a scale of 1 to 5, Macross' animation was 4+ on a good day and 2 on a bad. Mospeada was a consistent 3.5. Heck, I think the Inbit and Mospeadas were animated really well. The Legioss on the other hand wasn't. Have you watched the remastered Mospeada footage, Armentage? It looks way better than the old Robotech episodes.
  7. Ooh, good thread (before MGBUTTSEXX ruined it)! I love hearing old fans like me dissin' the new crap. Yes! One thing that bugs me about new anime is that nobody moves or shows any expression when talking. They'll do something retarded and melodramatic like close their eyes and look down, but they won't turn their heard or lean back or lean forward or smile real big or jump around or move any part of their body an inch. The characters are so wooden! Another thing: It is a MYTH that new anime is better animated than old anime. It's lazy thinking: Some techniques improve with time, therefore all techniques improve with time, therefore new animation is better than old animation. Bullshit! Compare any (non-Anime Friend) Macross episode with any new show. Macross blows it away. I've seen a Valkyrie from 50 different angles in one scene of Macross, and that sort of thing just does not happen today unless it's done with CGI.
  8. Hey TF fans, 1) What is up with Alternator Wheeljack? I have NEVER seen him in a store, EVER. I wanted him pretty bad too. 2) When are we going to see some Alternator-type jets? I heard a rumor about it, but will it ever happen?
  9. Top five reasons Mospeada is better than Macross: 5) The animation doesn't suck in every other episode (thanks to Anime Friend, who curiously enough did production on Mospeada) 4) Mospeada has TWO kick-ass transforming fighter jets 3) Ray 2) The bath scene 1) TRANSFORMING MOTORCYCLES!
  10. Oh yeah, the Inbit rocked! I actually think they were pretty hilarious -- they do great physical comedy. I laughed when I first saw the scout Inbit (Eager) point at something. It was just so funny how he did it, and the timing cracked me up. Also, when the Refles asked a Grab if he wanted to evolve, and the Grab just kind of shrugged nervously like "Er, wha-- me? Uh..."
  11. I'll admit, I like all the Robotech music better than the Macross, Southern Cross, or Mospeada music (with the exception of the Minmei/Minmay songs). I absolutely love the Robotech BGM and theme. Mospeada's music was still decent, though. I think Mospeada wasn't a big hit in Japan because it was too good -- the lil kids just couldn't absorb all the coolness. Renato, rightstuf.com has the Mospeada box set for 25.99 right now (It doesn't include Love, Live, Alive though). I don't know if they ship internationally, but I'd ship it to you if you want it. EDIT: Oh yeah, England is in a different DVD region...whoops. Cyclone, your LLA picture page isn't working -- none of the pictures load. Oh yeah, MGREXX, get the hell out of my thread!
  12. I think they showed it as Macron One in the US.
  13. The Robotech version is good, but I like the original better, mainly because the dialog is better. As for Mint, I thought she was pretty adorable in the original version. Her character added a lot of humor. The part where was hilarious...mostly because it was so shocking.
  14. Man, I think Mospeada may beat out Macross for my favorite anime of all time. I just watched the series -- I had seen most of Robotech: The New Generation, but seeing Mospeada with the original (non-cheesy) dialogue and remastered footage made it many times better. This confirms why I don't like new anime...old shows like Mospeada just blow everything else out of the water. Man. The characters were great, the mechas were awesome, the story was beautiful, and the dialog was natural and non-retarded. Hell, the dialog was as intelligent as any American TV show I've seen recently. That's why I love old anime. It's not insulting. *Sigh* Now I'll have to find out how to get Love Live Alive. Any tips on that?
  15. Damn, cool stuff drifand! That's the type of old-school stuff I like: Mospeada, Orguss, Dorvack...did I see a Srungle in there? Anyone have some Gall Force or Megazone stuff?
  16. Gunbuster! Those look pretty sweet. I bet they are rare, since ebay & hlj both have nothing like those. Gasaraki! I like those mechs (not surprising since the mecha designers worked on Mospeada, BGC, Patlabor, and Gundam collectively). Unfortunately I watched two eps of the show and couldn't take any more.
  17. I was checking out my newly-acquired Artmic Bible and damn there is some cool mecha in there. I especially like the stuff from Megazone and Gall Force, but I have never seen any kits for those shows for sale anywhere. So I thought, why not ask the guys on Macross World? If you have pics of your non-Macross mecha, I'd love to see them. Toys, models, whatever. I'm dying to see what you got.
  18. Doh! I should have known. Now I'm not sure if I want them... Thanks for the answer!
  19. Anyone know exactly what a Japanese "Film Comic" is? There's an old one for Mospeada I'm thinking of getting. But what is it? Is it stills from the anime put into a book form? Or is it original art? Thanks!
  20. Me too. It's really hard for me to like anything after 1995, and I don't know why. I actually determined the cut-off point based on what I like and don't like, and not the ten-year rule.
  21. You're prerequisites disqualify 99% of new anime, you know. That's the whole thing I'm getting at here. (And no, 99% of old anime did not suck too. Maybe 50%.) Anyway, I've been on the search for new anime that I might like. So far, I've found 2 that might be good. Princess Ai looks good solely on the character design of the main character. She looks friggin' hot, and looks like an adult. Plus, she's reminscent of the older style of anime. The other one that looks interesting is Burst Angel. The chicks look pretty hot (though their faces are plain), and theres decent robots. I watched one episode of it from a promotional DVD, and it seemed okay. I don't know anything about these two animes other than what I just mentioned, so if you have any opinions, let me know. My hatred of old anime has been pretty cool though, because I realized that I should blow my money on old stuff instead, and this has resulted in much happiness. I bought the old Artmic Design works book, and the stuff in that book blows me away. I definitely need to check out all of the Gall Force shows, as well as Megazone. Beautiful characters, beautiful Mecha. And then I'm gonna watch BGC again. I also bought the Mospeada and Southern Cross DVD sets. I was watching Mospeada today and hoo-boy is it good! Way better than the Robotech version, and simply, a masterpiece. The characters were loveable, and I was sucked into the story immediately. Looking at my Artmic Book and watching Mospeada, I've come to realize that I'm right. New anime is garbage. Not because it's new...because it sucks. I don't know why -- maybe it's marketed only to young kids now, maybe all the talent moved to the video game industry, or maybe there's something in the water making us more stupid. People like me are accused of being under the influence of nostalgia. That's right: I definitely wish to return to the time that anime didn't suck. That doesn't mean that I'm biased. You know what really makes people biased? Novelty. New anime is given way to much credit...because it's new. But it still sucks. It's all good though. I bought 4 first-print No Need for Tenchi graphic novels off eBay for $5, as well as all 8 Outlanders volumes for $10. All in wonderful condition. So, liking the old stuff has its perks.
  22. I see a lot of the YF-19 in those designs...
  23. I'm just glad she looks semi-pretty and of legal age, unlike the girls in 90% of new anime.
  24. That looks like it's from the animation, while the Rick Hunter pic is from the comic. Am I right?
  25. Man, if we militaries become successful in contracting real working battlesuits, war might becomes so cool that we won't hate it.
