  1. You completely missed my point. Of course those old games are garbage, and nearly unplayable. It's called hindsight. But nobody questioned it back in "the day" because that's all there was! We played them bcause they were the first and only video games out there, and nobody dreamed that we'd have any consoles remotely like what we have today. We sure as hell didn't sit around and complain about how much better Tekken 3 was going to be compared to Intellivision Boxing. Yeah, but you pretty much took that one quote out of the context of the rest of the post and railed on it. At that point, JB0 and I were talking more about emulation vs. playing with a 15+ year old console. The context of my post was more along the lines of how I owned several old consoles, but have cleared them out in favor of newer ones, and that while I use emulation for NES and SNES games, the Atari 2600 stuff is basically crap... as in not worth the time to emulate, and not particularly worth it (to me) to try to build a collection along the lines of JB0's. In that discussion, that's a reasonable point. Outside the context of the discussion, you've inaccurately and unfairly portrayed me as some snot-nosed teenager who's first taste of gaming was PSone at best, and as someone who has no respect for gaming's roots, which isn't even close to the truth. Then, when I defend myself, you admit that my statement is correct, then just try to say that it's asinine to make it because it's unfair to compare those early games against the latest and next-gen stuff. But if you'll put that quote back into its original context, I'm not saying anything like "Atari is teh suxorz cuz Xbox RULZ!" I'm saying that most of those old 2600 games are ugly and borderline unplayable, and therefore not worth the trouble of emulating (or even blowing $20 on one of those retro collections floating around).
  2. Halo 3 on Xbox 360 is a given. It's just a question of when. The word is that it's not going to be a launch game, but that Microsoft plans to hold it and release it whatever day Sony decided to launch the PS3.
  3. Man, you kids today... You just have no clue what the world was like before you graced it with your presence, do you? Seriously...maybe next you can comment on some old silent B&W movie you saw on late night PBS, and marvel that people "actually watched it." Or perhaps you can test drive a car thats more than 25 years old, and report on how disappointing its 3-speed manual tranny was. Or you could pick on 8-tracks, AM radio, carbureted engines, and betamax. You're free to share your opinions here, but you're going to have to realize that you have zero perspective on how the tech we have today came to be. Saying that you take things for granted is putting it lightly. No perspective? Do you even realize that I've been playing videogames more or less since there even were videogames? Look, I'm not saying that those early efforts were meaningless. You gotta start somewhere, right? But 90% of those old games didn't age well. Aknowledging that is not a lack of prespective or an ignorance of how tech evolved. It's an affirmation of that evolution (which is fitting, since we are talking about the next generation of console gaming). To argue anything else shows a perpsective clouded by nostalgia. Or perhaps you'd prefer we were still listening to 8-tracks?
  4. DAMN. go boy go. I need to play this more....if I could just pry Ridge outta my hands..... Wifi Ridge MP is a blast!! Make that 32 skins. But yeah, Lumines and RR are what I play most. Finished all the beginners World Tour and have probably done around 4 tours of the next tour(pro?). Now I've got to get my cheap ass co-workers and friends to buy a PSP instead of constantly having them ask to play with mine. Watch out, DA. Ridge Racer is deceptive. The Basic Tours and some of the Pro Tours are pretty easy. But the game takes a wicked turn for the harder when you get to EX. I'm pretty lucky, myself. Literally everyone at work, and my three closest friends outside of work, all got PSPs. Although, one of these days we're going to get into big trouble when the district manager or an LP guy comes in and find everyone in the store sitting on counters and playing with PSPs.
  5. DAMN. go boy go. I need to play this more....if I could just pry Ridge outta my hands..... Wifi Ridge MP is a blast!! I'm with MilkManX. I picked up Lumines, played it for maybe 20 minutes, failed to see what all the fuss was about, then started into my other games. For Ridge Racer, I haven't finished 3 of the Pro Tours, and six of the EX tours. But I did get the Rally X car. For Wipeout, I unlocked the Ascension Tournament on Flash, but I keep coming in 4th. For Tiger Woods PGA Tour, I've got to the Legend level. Believe it or not, other than that, I haven't really played much of the other games I bought. I played four season games of MLB, I didn't maybe the first three or four races on NFSU Rivals, I unlocked all of Morrigan's ending videos in Darkstalkers, and my Knight is at level 11 on Untold Legends, but I completely forgot where I was and started the story over.
  6. Reguardless of how hard it sucks, I can't justify paying that much for damn near anything, let alone a friggin' vacuum that I'd still have to shove around myself. Personally, I grabbed a clearanced original model Roomba from Target for $100. And you know what? The little bugger really does work. In fact, just like wyaxyz's Akira test, Roomba certainly picks up my wife's hair (and my wife sheds more than my mom's late cat... go figure that one). So, in summary... $500 for an over-hyped vacuum I still have to push myself, or $100 (you can get one of the really nice newer models with a remote and junk for like $250) for a vacuum that spins around like an idiot but actually vacuums with minimal supervision on my part.
  7. I'd say it's fairly possible, if the video of the next-gen Madden they played during the NFL draft is any indication (you should be able to check it out at IGN, I didn't sleep enough and I'm too lazy to look for a specific link).
  8. An ugly basketball shoe that turns into a robot is still an ugly basketball shoe at the end of the day.
  9. Anybody got John Williams phone number? Graham No, but I think I can get you the guy who arranged the techno soundtrack for Mortal Kombat...
  10. I'm picking it up tomorrow. Was it any good, Hikuro? I'm only picking it up so our store can win some contest. I'll play it, but it'll get traded in when Episode III comes out.
  11. IIRC, it's not about Brosnan not wanting to do it. I heard he really does want to do it. But, I heard that they wanted to make Casino Royale about one of Bond's earlier adventures, and that 51-year old Brosnan is just too old. They want a younger, fresher face with more mass-market appeal.
  12. I thought that this was already refuted. Official: Brosnon NOT Bond
  13. I uh, concur When I bought my NES, the first 3 games I bought with the system (Aside from Super Mario/Duck hunt that came bundled), were Contra, Jackal and Metal Gear. Funny thing is, the reason I ever owned a NES, was because my brother at the time collected Gi Joe Comics and on the back would see the adds for Metal Gear, and wasnt sure what it was but looked cool, and so bought the system. It was all about Capcom for me. Megaman and Rescue Rangers! I do have fond memories of Dragon Warrior 3, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, and Castlevania 3, though. And the versus mode in Trojan was kind of like a very early Soul Calibur...
  14. I still say people were too hard on the first two prequels. Yeah, Phantom Menace was a little slow, but hey, it's setting up the plot for the next five movies! And I enjoyed Attack of the Clones. I still say a lot of the prejudice agains the prequels is that, in the time between Episode VI and Episode I, a lot of EU stuff was created, and the prequels don't fit their fanboy-ish/girl-ish vision of Star Wars (including the EU stuff). If you look at the movies by themselves, though, none of them are exactly masterpieces of fiction. But they're all simple good fun. I'm not going into Revenge of the Sith with the expectation that it'll be the best movie ever, or that it'll suck, or that it will somehow make the universe complete. I'm just going in expecting to have more of the same simple good fun that I enjoyed in the last five movies.
  15. Perhaps, but there are enough to get stores to sell out. But hey, everyone can't be an early adopter. Otherwise, you'd have 10 million people trying to buy a system at launch, and then no one would want to buy one for the next five years. Oh, absolutely. If they wanted it badly enough to pay upwards of $1000 for it, why didn't they want it badly enough to preorder it somewhere and save themselves a lot of money and a lot of hassle? Well, I'll just take it as proof that heath care in America is good, and that natural selection isn't working so well. Pretty much. I mean, his basement is like a treasure trove of dead systems, and he's constantly scouring flea markets and Goodwills looking for rare gems... that he'll never play. I mostly emulate NES and SNES. I haven't really bothered to emulate older systems, mostly because I can't remember where the games I liked were. When I was very young, I had an Atari 800XL, a Commodore 64, and an Odyssey. I've checked out a few Atari 2600 Atari games, and frankly, I can't believe people actually played them. That seems to be the way it usually goes. People either love 2 and are lukewarm on the rest, or they like the others and aren't keen on 2. Personally, I loved 3. I try to think of it this way... the robots in the orignal series had very advanced AIs. They had preprogrammed personalities, and were able to analyze situations and make decisions based on their programming. Rock volunteered to fight against Wily because Light programmed him with a sense of right and wrong and the idea that he should help others. That creates an illusion of independant thought, but they actually lack a free will. In the X series, X, Zero, and the Reploids may or may not start with some base programming and personality, but they truly have a free will, and they can grow and evolve beyond their original programming. In other words, Rock fights Wily because his programming concludes that he should. X fights Sigma because he truly believes its the right thing.
  16. *hides lightsaber behind back, begins to whistle with look of feigned innocence*
  17. Not necessarily. Recent shows like Farscape, Firefly and Battlestar Galactica have shown that you can do high quality sci fi on a moderate budget. I gotta go with A1. It's not a question of good sci-fi or not... it's a question of good TV in general. I remember being a kid and getting up on Saturday morning and having nothing but cartoons on all three major networks from the time I got up 'til noon. A little later, you could find a decent sitcom on at least one of the networks between the hours of 8:00 and 11:00. Today, there's nothing but news programs on TV on Saturday mornings. And good luck finding a good sitcom. It's all cheesy reality TV (seems like Fear Factor is on every time I turn on the TV) or crime/medical dramas. When I do happen across a sitcom, it's usually not even funny.
  18. An extra hundred bucks for an extra year of gaming. Fair enough to me. And, for the record, my launch PS2 still works fine. If I can get a backwards compatible Xbox 360, and if Perfect Dark Zero is a launch game, I'll be happy enough. I'm not saying that you're not a gamer. The fact that you're posting in this thread says you are. I'm just saying that I'm really hardcore about my gaming... most games I pick up, I finish within a week. When one game's done, I need another. I'm not saying that Nintendo doesn't make some good games, but I am saying that even if I thought Nintendo had the best games, I'd still need more. That's actually why I bought all three systems. While not for everyone, emulating dead systems really cleaned up my living room. I've only got so much room in my apartment. I have a friend, though, who still has a lot of those old systems. Too bad I never actually see him playing games... Ah, once you get around the ridiculous marketing blitz, the inane anime, and the sacharine monsters, Pokemon is actually an amazingly addictive game. The rumored Pokemon Diamond/Pearl and the new Castlevania are actually the only reasons I haven't sold my DS. As for Mario, I loved his 2D games (aside from Super Mario Bros. 2), but I can't stand his 3D stuff. That's how I felt about Megaman Legends. Seriously, Battle Network isn't so bad. It's a fun little remix. It's just a shame that Capcom is beating it to death. I still enjoy the X series, although even I was dissapointed by X7. Give X8 a try, though. My only real complaint about this series is that changing directors have pretty much ruined continuity. For real Megaman redemption, though, definately check out the Megaman Zero games. Truly an excellent series. I just finished the Japanese version of the fourth in the series... without any spoilers, I'll say that it's a great place to stop and port a collection over to the PSP...
  19. If the new Pope really is Dark Lord of the Sith, I'm gonna start going to church again! Take communion, learn to channel Force lightning...
  20. Two new Star Wars TV shows As was previously predicted, one will be live action, and set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The other, interestingly enough, will be a CGI remake of the Clone Wars cartoon running on Cartoon Network.
  21. IGN's take on the leaked Xbox 360 info. The last page, where they show the leaked picture from ourcolony.net and compare it to the other leaked photo of the hard drive has me thinking that the concave design that Ladic first posted might actually be the real thing.
  22. This is Japan we're talking about... don't be too suprised if your first guess turns out to be correct.
  23. My Japanese is passable enough to play an action game like AEUG vs. Titans, Rockman Zero 4, or the Macross game. But I highly dount that I'd import an RPG. Actually, I'd say this game has a pretty good chance of making it Stateside. Bandai is pushing Gundam here. Even though Wing and SEED have been their poster children, we've still managed to get Journey to Jaburo, Zeonic Front, Federation vs. Zeon, and Gundam vs. Z-Gundam is set for a June release. On top of that, anime fans seem to be fans of RPGs. Plus, an original story means they don't have to rely on anyone being familiar with previous Gundam material. They could easily market it here as "An RPG with giant robots!*" *based on the hit anime Mobile Suit Gundam
  24. We also wouldn't have gotten X, W, Turn A, SEED. Gotta sacrifice something for the greater good. Yeah, except I wasn't overly fond of Victory, but I enjoyed SEED, and I actually really liked X. As far as the game goes, I don't mind the story taking place in an alternate universe, as long as they use more suits than just the ones from the One Year War. If they're only going to use OYW suits, they might as well have just made a OYW game.
