The Amazing Spider-Man, on Blu-Ray/DVD Nov. 9, 2012

Man, it looks way worse in those pics. -
Whatever. It's far from his worst song, and I'll give the dude credit for recording the kind of music that made him famous- 80s hair metal- long after most hair bands retired or sold out and started recording music that alienates older fans while failing to attract new ones. If he's happy, and his fans are happy, more power to him.

I'm confused. Are we talking about Keanu Reeves playing Spike, or Amuro Ray playing Peter Parker? -

Also, people tend to forget because he's usually struggling to pay the bills with money he gets for photos of himself as Spider-Man, but Peter Parker's a genius. Not smart, but actual genius. I remember reading one comic that suggested that he was smart enough to collaborate with Reed Richards, Tony Stark, and Hank Pym. -

Dude, seriously? I'm tempted to quote it in every post I make from now on just to get a rise out of you. -
It's not, as long as it's pre-Ultimatum. I don't think I've read an Ultimate book since that I've liked.

I don't mind Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. I actually prefer his leaner look. I just don't care for how they took the worst elements from the first movie costume while making their own alterations. Spidey's costume is iconic, you can't just go making changes willy-nilly. I'm also not sure about the darker tone. It works for Batman, because he's a darker character to begin with. Spidey's at his best when he's being a wise-arse. When you try to make Spidey darker, you wind up with angsty "Am I the clone or not" Spidey from the Clone Saga, or worse "I do anything to save my 200 year-old aunt including give up my marriage to a super model in a deal with the devil" Back In Black/One More Day Spidey. -

Why'd they make it suck? I didn't really care for the funky spider-logo or the scaled look of the previous movies. This one keeps all that, then makes other weird changes too. -

I didn't think 125% looked too bad for system icons and what not. Images looked pretty bad blown up to 150% in IE, though. -

Check my edited reply above. If I recall correctly, Windows XP let you change the DPI on fonts, but like I said, Windows 7 changes the size of everything except web content. -

The D in your name above your avatar is just slightly more than 3mm. The numbers on the clock in the taskbar are about 2mm. I have no problem with this. Just to check it against some other stuff, the text in an article in popular science is about the same size, as is the text in a text message on my Android phone (Droid Incredible, if that helps) and I reckon it's a similar (if only slightly shorter) distance from my eyes to my lap than my eyes to my monitor. When I do stuff on my phone, my forearm is more or less at a right angle to my upper arm, and my upper arm isn't bent at all. EDIT: Just did a quick test. You don't actually change the font in Windows 7, you change more or less everything. Text is bigger, but so are icons, the taskbar, etc. Changing the size in Windows 7 affects fonts all over, but it didn't look any different on web pages in Firefox (just the address bar and the site name on the tab). So I went back into IE9, and unchecked the "ignore font style" and "ignore font size" boxes under Tools>Internet Options>General>Accessibility. Sure enough, the font on the pages (technically, everything on the page) renders the same as if you have the the Display size set to Smaller - 100%. Then you can change View>Zoom to another size. The result should be larger fonts in Windows, larger fonts in IE, and tables that work right. The only downside I'm seeing is that some images on some web pages start to look a little blown-up. Here's on more pic. This time, I changed the Display (in Control Panel) to Medium - 125%, let IE9 render web pages according to the site, but set the zoom in IE to 125% as well. Is that more what you're looking for? -

Sorry, while my monitor is 22", you're stuck with 1680x1050. But here's a nice pic that shows the taskbar, one widget, my Windows Experience Index, the Control Panel, and a folder with some music files. I'd include more of the desktop, but the only icon I keep on it is the Recycle Bin. -

Have you tried (don't know if IE7 had it or not) messing with the zoom? It makes everything on the page larger, including the tables. I took a couple of screens for you. IE9 on the left, Firefox 3.6 (my preferred browser) on the right. Firefox is always using the default settings. On one, we have IE using Small font, and zoom set to 125%, and we can see that the table isn't perfect, but it's workable, and definitely bigger than Firefox. On the second, we have the font set to Smallest, and the zoom set to 150%. It's much bigger than on Firefox, and aside from some aliasing the tables are the same. Lastly, this thread. I set IE back to using the page's styles, but set the zoom to 125%. I'm thinking that's probably about what you want, isn't it? -

Well... I've got some bad news, and I've got some good news. The bad news is that if you change the font size in IE9, you're still going to mess up your tables. IE9 won't even let you do it by default; you first have to go into Tools>Internet Options>General>Accessibility and check the boxes for "Ignore font styles specified on web pages" and "Ignore font sizes specified on web pages". The good news is that, once you do that, it's pretty easy to change the font sizes. Hitting ALT+V on the keyboard will open the view menu, from there you just go to Text Size and pick what you want. Smallest is about the same as the default, and Small works with the Pizza Hut order form. Anything bigger will start to mess up, but there's five sizes total. Plus, if you need to use the Smallest size, in the same View menu is a Zoom setting that will make the entire table/page bigger, which might help. Of course, to get Pizza Hut's site to load right in IE9, I did have to turn on Compatibility View (you can do that by clicking the broken page-looking icon in the address bar; no menu required). IE9 doesn't seem to like Javascript, or maybe I just have to update it or something. I don't really use IE. -

I'll be honest, I'm not 100% sure what you mean. Maybe it's a leftover XP thing (I haven't used XP personally for a few years, but I vaguely recall keeping it at a lower resolution), but all my fonts for Windows/Firefox/IE are the defaults. I'm running Windows 7 with a 22" monitor set to 1680x1050, and I'd estimate that I'm between two and three feet from the screen, depending on how much I'm slouching. I don't suppose that I'd complain if the fonts were bigger, but I've never really thought that they needed to be. Anyway, I've got the IE9 beta, and I grabbed a screen of this thread. I kept it at my desktop's resolution so it'd look the same to you as it does to me (although I made the IE window smaller because I'm not sure how you have your monitor set). I also kept it as a bitmap, also to preserve the accuracy of what I'm seeing. (Feel free to mod my post later if the pic is too huge for the board). -

Ok, Transformers fans are most likely familiar with Stan Bush' song "The Touch", which has been available for Rock Band. Many of us were thought it was kind of cool that he did a song for the ending credits of the War for Cybertron video game. Well guess what... that song, "'Til All Are One" is now available for Rock Band as well. -
Models are ok, but I want another sequel. Preferably one I don't finish in a single three-hour session.

Is it cool to hate on 2010, and someone forgot to tell me? I got a new car, a new computer, a new TV, and a new smartphone that I like hella better than my old one in 2010. In the summer we took a nice long weekend getaway, and in the fall my wife, who passed the last of the CPA exams in 2010, got to visit her family in China. My dad, who has serious heart problems after suffering from two major heart attacks due to a blood disorder a few years back, is still with us and doing ok. They made a Scott Pilgrim movie, Futurama came back, and Community got picked up for a second season. Plus, while technically not from 2010, 2010 was the year I discovered Flight of the Conchords, Arthur C. Clarke's Space Odyssey novels, Orson Scott Card's Ender novels, and that they make a cherry-flavored rum that, when mixed with Coke, produces something that tastes just like Cherry Coke but will give you a great buzz. Sure, 2010 had it's crap, too, but I choose to remember 2010 as a good year.

This. I never saw the third Chakushin Ari movie, but the second one was a muddled mess. I think I might be a minority in that I actually liked Ring 2, but Rasen and Ring 0 were pretty bad. As for Juon, the second V-Cinema one was a waste (especially since the first half is last half of the first one). The first theatrical version had a few memorable scenes, but it turned out to be more of the same if you'd seen the V-Cinema versions. The second one was a little more creative, but the franchise was pretty well worn out by then. And The Eye 2 might have been so terrible that the only thing I remember about it was that Shu Qi was in it. You know what's worse than bad sequels, though? American remakes. While The Ring was actually pretty good, Dark Water, The Ring 2, The Grudge (and sequels), Pulse, and One Missed Call range from laughably bad to appallingly terrible.
