All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
mikeszekely replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The part of me that grew up playing the NES, Super NES, and heck, even the N64... the part of me that loved his Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, DS Lite, and his 3DS XL is curious. I want to like it, and the fact that it's got Bayonetta 2 and New Super Mario Bros U isn't hurting it. At some point along the way, I actively started disliking my Wii, though. I hate the interface. I hate the Miis. I hate the motion controls. And I hate most of the games, which is a real shame considering that there are a few gems on that system. So the part of me that remembers the Nintendo logo as red on black is at war with the part of me that thinks of the Nintendo logo as gray on white, and the stalemate is broken by the fact that I haven't played a game on a console... on any console... in months. I've got around 40 hours into Borderlands 2 on PC, though, with Sleeping Dogs and Darksiders 2 downloaded but in the queue. And I'm kind of hoping to see Dishonored on this year's Steam holiday sale...- 6894 replies

How about, with MP-10, instead of Takara re-releasing it as regular Optimus Prime, battle-damaged Optimus Prime, clear Optimus Prime, Nemesis Prime, dead Optimus Prime, and Paint-him-white-and-call-him-Ultra-Magnus Optimus Prime, I'm kind of hoping for an MP-10p... Pepsi Optimus Prime.- 17159 replies

You know, when I saw pictures online, I wasn't convinced for the need of a new MP Prime. But seeing him in the box in person, he just blows MP-1 away. He's simultaneously more detailed in some areas and less in others, and the result is so much more dynamic.- 17159 replies

I was starting to get nervous, since I never even received an order confirmation. Then I hear a truck, and I figure it's the mailman. I go outside to get the mail, and there's a big UPS box on my front step. Inside is my MP-10. Good times. Now I have to give it to my wife so she can wrap it and give it to me for the holidays.- 17159 replies

My wife and I went out to dinner with my parents, and they asked if we could stop at Target. I wasn't expecting anything, but they actually had Prime Ultra Magnus and Thundertron. I passed on Thundertron for now... the figure looks decent enough, but I don't have any attachment to the character. I did pick up Ultra Magnus, as there was a certain novelty in buying one that isn't a repaint of Prime (or a Leader class). I can say that I dig the head sculpt and colors. The hammer is a nice Animated homage, and I wish he had came with two guns so I could peg them onto his shoulders. There's really nothing else about him that screams "Ultra Magnus," and in fact, there's elements of him that actually remind me a tad of DotM Sentinel Prime. Posability is ok. He's waist turns and he's got ball-joints for hips, but some truck kibble on his back hampers him a bit. His shoulders are on ball joints too, but they're a little loose, which screws with his ability to hold his hammer. I guess he's kind of so-so, but since Target is still selling voyagers for $20, I'm not going to complain too much.- 17159 replies

Somewhere out there, there's a fanfic where Darth Vader and Sephiroth team up. Disney buying Lucasfilm just made that fanfic one step closer to being part of a Kingdom Hearts game.

This. When I got into Transformers again, when Classics began, I had no trouble finding and collecting them. I mean, up through Universe/Classics 2.0, I was able to find every single figure without much hassle, even if I did pass on a few. I didn't even have trouble finding the reissues of Soundwave, Perceptor, or the Insecticons. In the last two years, though, Hasbro's distribution has been horrible. I nearly missed a few Generations/Reveal the Shield figures I really wanted, and only managed to get some of them like Perceptor because they turned up at places like Marshall's. Of the Prime line, I've never seen a Vehicon or Airachnid in a store. The First Edition came and vanished before I even thought to go to a store to look for them. The only time I've seen Bulkhead, Starscream, or Knock Out was the time I bought them. While I was able to get all three Fall of Cybertron figures without much hassle, I'm questioning whether or not I'll actually be able to find all of the Combaticons. And Masterpiece Optimus Prime, the toy that's been at the top of my most-wanted list since it was announced, I've given up hope on actually owning. I mean, did Hasbro only make like dozen total? And who's dumb idea was it to release an adult collectible as an exclusive at a toy store right before the holidays? Now I have to hunt for it in a store that's a ghost town 9 months out of the year during the three months when it's clogged with flustered parents desperate to find the new "Tickle Me Furby" or what have you for their kids. A $65 markup? You got off easy, Hikuro. I'm trying to talk my wife into letting me buy one at $190.- 17159 replies

No, I don't remember it being difficult or anything like that. Just tedious. Like the entire game takes place in one part of a colony thing, and you have to go back and forth through several areas to pick up new things, and there's not that many different types of enemies.- 6894 replies

mikeszekely replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, that's kind of where I'm at on this. Maybe I'll wait for it to turn up for $10 on Newegg like I did with the Devil May Cry collection. It's been a long, long time I since I played either ZOE. But from what I remember, the first one had some irritating bits that I think would keep me from really replaying it much. ZOE 2 is a lot more fun, but like I said, once you learn the game and start skipping dialog/cutscenes, a short game becomes a lot shorter. To get 60 hours out of the ZOE collection, you're going to have to replay ZOE 2 20 times, and that's assuming you replay the first one on occasion. I think I'm down to Persona 4 Golden and Paper Mario Sticker Star are my only sure-thing games for the rest of the year. That being said, I'm sure I'll buy a game or two during Steam's annual holiday sale in December. I'm actually hoping to get Dishonored around then.- 6894 replies

No, I'll be fair and say it's about four hours each, so eight combined. Assuming its your first play through, and you don't skip any dialog or anything, anyway. You can easily go through ZOE 2 without saving in a single sitting if you know what you're doing, though.- 6894 replies

A part of me really wants to get the ZOE collection. I did enjoy playing them, especially the second one. But $40 seems like an awful lot for a pair of older games that can be completed in one afternoon... combined. It took me around 4 hours to finish the first one, and I remember reading in an interview with Kojima where he suggested that ZOE 2 would be twice as long. I was pretty pissed when I finished ZOE 2 in 2 hours, 47 minutes.- 6894 replies

While my initial reaction was to imagine a G-rated Star Wars movie where Jar Jar Binks teams up with Mickey Mouse to teach some ethnically diverse group of kids the true meaning of friendship, I've been pretty satisfied with wtih Disney's handling of Marvel (aside from killing Spectacular Spider-Man so that they could make Ultimate Spider-Man). Which is more than I can say for Lucas' handling of Star Wars.

After playing with one for awhile, I'm thinking about getting a Samsung Series 5 Slate and the keyboard dock. For an Atom device with 2GB of RAM, it's actually pretty peppy, and it's Windows 8 not RT. The one thing holding me back is that it's only got a 64GB SSD. Out of the box, it's only got maybe 15-16GB free (hard to say exactly how much room the demo software is taking). The 1366x768 resolution is the same as the HP laptop I do my grad school stuff on, though, and it's thin and light enough, and I do appreciate the microSD slot and USB port. Hmm... -

Yeah... but Windows RT.I looked at the Samsung tab with regular Windows 8, and I was digging the thinness, the lightness, and the screen. Then I checked the properties, saw that there's only 15GB free out of the box, sighed, and decided to wait. I'm willing to put up with a thicker, heavier tablet that can do more than the iPad or an Android tablet. Stuff one of them little hard drives they use the iPod Classic, for all I care. But if I'm running actual Windows, I think 128GB is my absolute minimum. Actually... Lenovo has a laptop with a convertible screen. If I were buying a Windows 8 device, I might have gone with it, except it's from their business line, so it looks awful. -

Which one is 12, Sideswipe or Soundwave? I want Soundwave. As fond of Sideswipe as I am (he was my first TF as a kid), I can't see myself paying the ridiculous going price for such a tiny toy.- 17159 replies

Honestly, more RAM isn't likely to help. Under 4GB of RAM, and anything you add will make it feel like a whole new machine, but beyond 6GB and you're not likely to notice much difference. Not that it stopped me from jamming 16GB into my current box, and RAM is pretty cheap these days. As for the card, I'm kind suprised that you're lagging as much as your. The GTX 295 was ridiculously powerful when it came out, and I'd think it would have held its own better against more modern cards today. Have you updated the drivers lately? Then again, SLI is kind of like a quad-core processor. Sure, on benchmark tests it looks like a huge gain. In real-world applications, though, not everything's coded to take advantage of the extra cores. And wasn't the 295 basically a pair of 280s on one board? Bottom line, yeah, you'll get a boost from SLI, and yeah, the GTX 295 was a killer card, but it's now three gerations or so behind. The GTX 295 doesn't even support DirectX 11, if I'm not mistaken (and a lot of games like Dragon Age II and Crysis 2 look a lot better with DirectX 11). On paper your GTX 295 should hold its own against a modern card like the GTX 660ti, but in practice I played a bit of Borderlands 2 with everything cranked to max, and it ran fine. Granted, I'm still pretty early in the game, but since building this box I've also played Arkham City and DiRT 3, also on max settings. DiRT 3 was even kind enough to test the settings, and reported a comfortable 48fps average. So yeah, I guess a new graphics card can be a little pricey. But the GTX 660ti seems to the sweet spot. You could give up some performance for a GTX 660 (without the ti), but they seem to be going for around $230 average, while the 660ti is hovering around $280-$290 on sale. I think the 660ti's worth the extra money. -
