    Well, it's 12:15am on the east coast, and TRU still isn't showing MP Soundwave. I've got work in the morning, so it's off to bed. I'll check again in the morning before I leave if I get a chance.

    On the one hand, that's a really G1 Whirl, right down to the yellow rotor... On the other hand, and I never thought I'd hear myself say this, I'm a little disappointed that he's so G1. I was kind of hoping for a chicken-legged, IDW-esque Whirl. That "unvincible" psychopath is one of the more interesting characters in the IDW comics right now.

    That ED-209's looking a lot better than the earlier one for this remake.

    They were featured prominently in the Marvel comic book (in a story arc where the Decepticons had an island resort for... some reason, and Blaster and Buster Witwicky went to infiltrate the island). If you buy Powermaster Prime as G1, who also didn't appear in the cartoon (aside from the CGI bits they added to the reruns), you gotta accept the Seacons too.

    For Prowl/BlueStreak/Smokescreen, Hasbro doesn't usually announce a US version of the MP until after the Japanese version's been released. For Sideswipe/Red Alert, Takara's ability to make a toy with the Lamborghini license doesn't grant Hasbro the same ability, even if it's the same toy. Suffice to say that many of us expect that Hasbro will never release Sideswipe or Red Alert due to the Volkswagen Group's reluctance to permit the Lamborghini license to be used on a toy that turns into a robot with a missile launcher on his shoulder.

    It wasn't even the door gunner/helicopter stuff that killed it. They ruined the jet combat by making it so that missiles were borderline useless and enemies had a tendency to cuddle up as close as possible, practically forcing you into that dumb mode were you do a scripted move then zoom in while you pelt the guy with gun fire.

    Well, the reviews aren't so hot. I tend to prefer games that are good to games that have underage anime girls. Now, as for a new Ace Combat game, I'm going to hold off on getting excited just yet. Ace Combat 6 was pretty so-so, and Ace Combat Horizon flat out sucked. Like, I-wil-never-finish-the-game-because-I-don't-hate-myself-that-much sucked. Platform's going to be an issue, too. For the first time since the Saturn, I'm thinking about skipping a console, that being the Xbone. Plus, while I intend to eventually get a PS4, I'm not going to be in a hurry for it. But hey, if they announce that Infinity is going to be more Ace Combat 4-5-Zero-X and on a platform I already have, then yeah, I'll be super stoked.

    Hmm... buy Azalea, or hope that Hasbro releases and IDW Arcee themselves... In other news, I guess Fans Toys a releasing a gray "Shackwave" version of Quake Wave. I know Shockwave is supposed to be purple, but the first release was TOO purple for me. Plus, I had the Radio Shack Galactic Man back in the day. I remember being pretty excited to find a toy that was recognizably Shockwave to me at a Radio Shack, enough so that I didn't mind that he was gray instead of purple. Not sure if I'm $200 tempted, but I'm pretty tempted.

    I keep hearing great things about the Last of Us. I was almost tempted to buy it, even though I haven't had a lot of free time for games since I started grad school, and what time I do have has been almost exclusively on PC. Lucky me, I have a buddy who's really into zombies, really wanted to play the Last of Us, doesn't own a PS3, and didn't really want to buy one. I loaned him my PS3 on the condition that he gives me his copy of the Last of Us when he returns it.

    Yeah, I'm not going to lie, I bought the Vita for WipEout and Uncharted. Didn't care for Gravity Rush. I'd probably give up and sell my Vita but it has Persona 4 Golden, which makes it awesome by default.

    Yeah, if you display your TFs in alt mode Alternators/Binaltech is probably the best. I'm not a fan of pickups, and even I'm digging Prime's alt mode.

    Ok, the Alternators Prime I ordered arrived. For everyone who was into Alternators back in the day, you probably know all about this stuff. But since he's my first, I'm going to give some impressions. On the plus side, vehicle mode is great. The size is just right. Everything fits together better than even some recent masterpieces. Tailgate opens, cool. Hood opens, but not as much as I like, to reveal half an engine. Still pretty cool. The interior is especially impressive. Steering wheel with a molded Dodge logo, gear shift on the floor, molded dashboard including gauges, stereo, and vents, and a center console with molded cup holders that folds up into a third seat. Even if it didn't transform, it'd be a nice toy of a Dodge Ram, and it reminds me a little of a Jada Toys Mustang I have. Transformation is pretty simple. The resulting bot, while definitely Optimus Prime, is a little on the crappy side. For one, he's got kibble everywhere, from the front bumper folded onto his shoulders to the doors hanging off of his arms to the roof and the back of the cab folded onto his back. There are two tabs on the bed that fold back to give his knees some decent range, but his thighs are pretty short. He can raise and lower is arms at the shoulders, but he can't rotate his arms at the shoulders, only swing his whole shoulder back. His hood folds over his front, but doesn't actually peg into anything. And the directions call for the front grill to flip out into a cover for his pelvis that isn't painted, doesn't peg into anything, and generally looks way worse than leaving the grill folded up. Oh, and oddly enough, the one I got is missing a screw in his right shoulder. If Optimus is indicative of Alternators in general, I have to say I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, it is extremely cool to have detailed, licensed cars with trunks, hoods, and doors that open and detailed interiors and what have you that turn into recognizable robot characters we love. On the other hand, it seems pretty obvious that you really have to fudge on the bot mode to get such an awesome alt mode. As someone who generally displays his toys in bot mode, I'm not entirely comfortable with those sacrifices.

    So, I guess Hasbro MP Soundwave is on TRU's website... but you can't actually order him until the 18th. So I guess that gives me about two weeks to drive around stores looking for one, only to get up extra early on the 18th (after staying up and realizing that they weren't going to start selling him at midnight EDT) and trying to order one before the scalpers get 'em all.

    The Zynga thing's confirmed now. And given Zynga's own state of affairs, I'm guessing that Mattrick's decisions are less "I think I'm going to leave Microsoft to find awesome new opportunities at Zynga" and more "Crap, I need a job fast before Microsoft cans me for the PR nightmare that was the Xbox One reveal!"

    If Hasbro gives a a Whirl, dollars to donuts says he's based on the current IDW version. Which, honestly, would be awesome. He's one of the best characters in IDW's More than Meets the Eye ongoing. As for Rhinox, I don't really give a flip. Yeah, Beast Wars was good and all, but I'm not into Beast Wars toys. I skipped Classics/Universe/Generations/Whatever Cheetor and Dinobot, I'll skip Rhinox too. Waspinator, though... I could always use more Decepticons, and I can rationalize him as there being more Insecticons than Sharpnel, Bombshell, and Kickback... Skids I might buy. I think he looks kind of terrible, but we're getting closer to getting all of the Autobot cars. Maybe we can Talk Hasbro into doing Deluxe versions of more of the mini cars? Which reminds me, I was kind of excited about Cosmos and Swerve until I realized they're Legends, not Deluxe. As for stuff we already knew was coming, I'm still waiting for Trailbreaker/Trailcutter, Hoist, IDW Bumblebee, Orion Pax, and Stealth Megatron. Nothing new about that. But the repaints... not sure about Doubledealer, and I think I actually strongly dislike that Dreadwing. And I can't get excited about a FoC Thundercracker when I never found a FoC Starscream. But Goldbug... Goldbug is awesome. So awesome that I might skip IDW Bumblebee and keep Classic Bee on my shelf, then get Goldbug so that Goldbug and Bumblebee have different molds.

    Appreciate the notice, but I think I'm going to pass. I'm a little tapped out right now after buying a new phone, laptop, and Alternators Prime within a month, especially when I'm giving serious thought to quitting my job. Besides, I'm not sure I like Metroplex $125 worth, especially with Hasbro MP Soundwave around the corner.

    And I'd rather they used plastic molded in the correct colors and made the toy cheaper, I guess. Don't get me wrong, paint's nice. Especially on a car. But I can seriously do without die cast.
