  1. That Magnus is a must buy for me. I think he looks better than the MP.
  2. I'm going to agree on both counts, with the caveat that I haven't found Alpha Bravo to compare with. That'd be interesting, and I could see it from the way the nose folds over the seat. Might be a tad chunky, though. Speaking of chunky, I played with the jets today. Compared to Dragstrip, I think that Fireflight and Skydive are both more instantly recognizable, although they have a few odd color choices as well. As robots, they're similarly posable compared to Dragstrip, although their arms have the clearly cut-out "no plastic for you!" thing going on. As jets... well, aside from the super obvious robot arms, they do an admirable job of folding in such a way so as not to have too much robot kibble. The result is still a pair of very junky jets with stumpy wings, though. If you want cool transforming jets, these are not the toys for you. If you don't mind inexpensive choro-q style jets that turn into robots and can combine to form a bigger robot, then ok. Speaking of the bigger robot... I'm noticing a theme here. Making a leg is really about moving the noses and the combiner ports up... so they're all pretty solid as legs, in the sense that they are bricks with accessories for feet and a thing on top to connect to an upper leg. In this, Dragstrip is slightly better because his own arms aren't visible. And as arms, they all use the hips for an elbow, which means the elbows are always going to be a pair of thighs. Also as arms, none of them seem to have a place for their own arms. Skydive is probably the best here; his arms are clearly visible in arm mode, but at least they peg onto his wings so he's fairly solid. Fireflight's arms don't peg into anything, but the way they're folded over his back tucks his hands behind his wings. Dragstrip is the absolute worst, though. Not only do his arms not peg into anything, they're basically just laying on top of his torso.
  3. So, some musings on CW Dragstrip... The back of the box proudly proclaims that it can be transformed in just 9 steps. I didn't count, but yeah, I don't even know why they bothered with instructions, it's super easy. Despite its simplicity, he's actually not too bad. Solid race car mode, posable bot mode. His head, hips, and shoulders are on ball joints. Biceps and thighs have 360 degrees of rotation. His knees bend 90 degrees, and his elbows a little more than that. His wrists can bend inward due to his transformation, but otherwise there's no wrist or ankle articulation. Size-wise, he's probably still a little smaller than some of the Deluxes of the past, being slightly taller than stealth bomber Deluxe CHUG Megatron but a little shorter than Peg (I mean Drift). Unlike more recent Deluxes, though, he doesn't seem to have as much of the "we carved out huge sections to save on plastic". A little on the insides of this thighs, and a bit more on his forearms, but that's almost a function of his transformation. No, my gripes with Dragstrip are actually less about quality and more about how very little it resembles Dragstrip. The purple part of his head looks almost upside-down, and his face is either mouthless or it's open and painted the same blue as the rest of his face, take your pick. Then there's the gratuitous use of purple... I don't know if Hasbro thought too much yellow is boring, but I'm seriously tempted to repaint his thighs and upper arms. Lastly, there's the fact that his chest is dominated by the combiner port while the car seat is on the back, even though I'm thinking it'd have been just as easy to make him so the seat was his chest. Oh yeah, as limbs go, he makes a decent leg. He's nice and solid, but he's got a little car kibble. He's a little iffier as an arm, though, mostly because his own arms don't really peg into anything in arm mode.
  4. I finally found a few Combiners Wars toys at Walmart. I promptly bought them all... which means I cane home with Fireflight (er... Firefly now?), Skydive, and Dragstrip. Be nice to find another limb and a torso. I could at least stuff them together as a frankenbiner.
  5. Yeah, the RG Strike is great... until you put the Aile pack on him, and he becomes a back-heavy mess. Pretty much the only reason I want the overpriced RG Skygrasper is so I can switch Aile Strike to Sword Strike.
  6. So I got really excited when I found out that there is a hobby shop, only about 20 minutes from me. Turns out they have no gunpla, though. Oh well. I bought a new pair of nippers, at least.
  7. Yeah, I thought that Nintendo's move to a Nintendo Network ID would be good, but your DLs are still linked to hardware. It's why I'm not really worried about getting bigger card when I eventually get a New 3DS XL. I've only bought a handful of downloadable titles, and never anything that I can get a physical copy of.
  8. Couldn't you just buy the bigger microSD before doing the system transfer? Likewise, I couldn't sit through the plodding pace of the video, but is there a reason why you wouldn't just do the wireless transfer instead of the PC transfer?
  9. I kind of quit collecting Transformers last year, so I doubt I'll buy them online. It's just one of those things that if I saw some at the store I might buy a couple.
  10. I wouldn't mind getting the Combiner Wars guys, but I've yet to see any in stores.
  11. Gundam Planet might be the closest place to me with an aisle like that. And Google Maps puts it at around 5 and half hours. Closest places to me that sell some Gundam models is a Hobbytown USA about hour from me on the other side of Pittsburgh. You search for hobby stores around here, and you've got nothing but trains and craft stores from west Pittsburgh to Altoona.
  12. Appreciate the offer, really I do. But it's not that I can't find what I'm looking for, it's that I can't find a local place to browse.
  13. So lucky. I'd love to do an Alex, but I'm concerned that the HG will look out of place with the RGs. The F91/Crossbone/Victory Gundams seem to get away with it better by way of being smaller and more "advanced".
  14. Spots? Plural? I remind you guys that the closest place that sells gunpla is a HobbyTown USA an hour from me. All of my gunpla purchases wind up being Amazon.
  15. Haven't settled on where at, yet, but I think I'm going to preorder the RG RX-78-3. I just love the colors. In my head canon Amuro got this instead of the magnetic coating on the RX-78-2. Sort of like the novels, except that pretty much everything else follows the TV series.
  16. Expensive makes me sad. I could see myself buying the main cast if they were reasonably priced.
  17. Because Hasbro/Hasbro Asia may want to sell it (I'm hearing Australia is all but a sure thing), but non-Japanese fans are probably less familiar with Transformers Victory than they are IDW's comics, I'd assume.
  18. That HGUC Full Cloth is actually an HGBF. I'm going to hold off on preordering either. I'll definitely get RG Raiser (eventually). Full Cloth could end up being a must-buy or a pass, depending on how different the Build Fighters version is from the Steel 7 version.
  19. Well, I'd dig an HG GP04, but I don't do 1/100 scale models, so that's out. And aside from being really red instead of half pink, I'm not really seeing the allure of buying another Char Zaku (I already have the HG Zaku II F, Zaku I Black Tri Stars, Shin Matsunaga, RG Char Zaku, and RG Zaku II F). That sniper rifle's hot, though. This is also kind of a tight month for me. So I'm not really putting off Gunpla because there's nothing I want (I have a big list of HGs I want to go back and build!), I'm putting it off because all I'm budgeting for right now is the RG Z3 and maybe, if I have a little left over later in the month, V-Rabe.
  20. Can't wait to see how it turns out. I love Sinanju. It's the suit I wish Sazabi had been. Mild bummer. The next best thing to building my own gunpla is other people sharing theirs (and I don't think I'm building anything until Z3 comes). Well, whatever he's getting I hope he enjoys it.
  21. I haven't handled it, but from what I've seen and read, yeah, it's the gold standard. There's some stuff I like better on Hercules, but overall I think Giant wins it. Don't really have $400 to burn on a Devastator, though. Might be willing to spend a hundy, though.
  22. If I buy Devastator, it'll be because I see him in the store. That's something that never happened for Metroplex, a handful of other CHUGs (especially Legend and Leader classes), and so far, the entire Combiner Wars line. Every time I'm out and check I see shelves still choked with Age of Extinction toys (seriously, it's like the entire line except Evasion Mode Optimus Prime was a shelfwarmer), and a handful of equally crappy toys for the new Robots in Disguise show.
