I just finished the Skyraider. What a nice kit! This is the second Brick Veteran kit I’ve bought, the first being the F4U Corsair. This is a much nicer kit. The Corsair is very delicate and the landing gear can not be deployed. While the A-1 has folding wings and fully functional landing gear…a space saver for sure. It is also very solid and less finicky than the Corsair. If you have the funds I highly recommend the Skyraider kit when the inevitable Navy version is done.

The Skyraider looks great.  It's disappointing to hear about the Corsair not having functional landing gear though, and that's quite unusual for a BV kit.

  2. Upgrades to be added tonight:

"Tier One : Customized Personal Shikishi - $2000 (limit of 10)

These shikishi are created specifically for the recipient and are completely unique. They are hand-drawn and colored by Mikimoto-sensei, and the recipient can make suggestions as to the content which the artist will take into consideration when creating the artwork. The subject matter must be Macross II-related. In some cases there may be some back-and-forth discussions before the artist settles on an acceptable design.

    Tier Two : Semi-Customized Limited Edition Shikishi - $800 (limit of 30)

These shikishi will all use the same base drawing, which will be created exclusively for use in this tier. The core line art and base hair and skin color work will be printed on shikishi boards, and then the artist will individually color the clothing and background of each shikishi before inscribing and signing/numbering them.

Tier Three : Limited Edition Printed Shikishi - $300 (limited to one per project backer)

These shikishi will all use the same new fully detailed and colored drawing (so they will have the same level of detail as the other tiers) but are fully printed reproductions. As with all the other shikishi, they will be personally inscribed and signed/numbered by the artist. Note that this tier will not use the same base drawing as tier two!

Mikimoto-sensei wants to get input from interested backers about possible design suggestions for the Tier Two and Three drawings. So opine away in the comments. He has also told us that he intends to use the Tier Two and Three artwork to experiment with drawing on a computer in the shikishi style, which should result in something very interesting indeed!"

Attached are examples from the Megazone 23 Kickstarter:

Very pricey upgrades, and yet very tempting...

OK, sneak peek at the next MOC. Hoping there are some other crotchety old fellows around that recognize this. It is from 1997, lol. There are others out there similar to this and they inspired it, but at this point, I re-engineered everything on it, part count is tripled, so I will say there some out there, but this one is mine. Waiting to take better shots as I'm waiting on some missing parts to wrap it up. I already have ideas on further improving it. The arsenal for it is next. Last shot is the whole cabinet to get a sense of scale and to shamelessly show off my shrine to my favorite shoot-em-ups :P.

Lovin it, both the Einhander and your starship collection!

  4. Minus One is coming back to theaters next month...in monochrome:

At least in Japan, no word yet if this version will also be shown in the US.

    Found more info:

"We are now able to announce Godzilla-1.0/C, which we have been working on for a long time. Rather than just making it monochrome, it is a cut by cut, I had them make adjustments while making full use of various mattes, as if they were creating a new movie. What I was aiming for was a style that looked like it was taken by masters of monochrome photography. We were able to unearth the texture of the skin and the details of the scenery that were hidden in the photographed data. Then, a frightening Godzilla, just like the one in the documentary, appeared. By eliminating color, a new sense of reality emerges. Please live and resist further fear at the theater." - Takashi Yamazaki

  5. I was real glad to watch this during its last few days in the theaters.  I was always curious to see how humans could defend themselves against the big G without any tech from  maser trucks or Super X weapons.  Great effects, big sound, just an overall good watch.  Highlights for me included:

    Spoiler

-This most devastating portrayal of G's "heat ray" that I can remember

    -Shinden!!

-How the movie did not "treat life cheaply"

I found an Aoshima ACKS 1/43 ingram on sale at a flea mkt and picked it up. The kit is surprisingly good and a better build than both the 20+ yr old 1/35 MG Ingram and Moderoid's 1/60 entry.  20231105_135118_HDR.jpg.01cf56b0f74720738fbcd6b96b42875f.jpg

Unfortunately Aoshima has only done ingrams and they've already released the most common variations, except for TV Ingram Unit 3. They're last entry for Patlabor was the Reactive Armor units in Dec 22 and nothing else has been announced afaik so despite being amazing kits it's a hard-sell to have just ingrams in an off-scale (1/43) That said I'm hooked on these now and am going to go and buy TV unit 2, 3 reactives and the double car set because I'm an ingram addict.

What wonderous flea market sells Patlabor?  In my area you would only go to flea markets to find a missing half of a lawn mower or crafts made of stuff found in a recycling bin.

I need this to pair with the big Yamato Ingram!

  7. After putting in a couple of hours into FM2, I see it needs a little more polish.  The translation so far isn't bad, but it's on the rough side.  I've also run into some glaring typos, which I think is inexcusable with the ease of auto correction today.  Minor niggles aside, the graphic upgrade is better than the one in the FM1 remake, and the sound effects are quite good.  The combat scenes are more dynamic and flow much faster than those in the original game.  Just a much better way to play FM2 than using a modded PS1 and a translated online script.
