  1. Has this been a problem for you in the past? Is there something you want to share with the rest of the class?
  2. Theforce.net has a link to the first teaser commercial. It's short, but it looks promising. Like I said, Tartakovsky has a distinct eye for visuals.
  3. The Macross Bible indeed. It, along with the Gold Book and the S.K. Design Works are the hory trinity of Macross books.
  4. It can support a fully armored VF-1? I'm sold! I can't wait to detail it with all sorts of hydraulic lines and wires.
  5. So...it looks like those storyboards were legit all along. Awesome stuff! I can't wait to see the proto-GBP-1 in action.
  6. I think mine was Insomnia. I remember when I first read it years ago, and it slowly dawned on me that the story was Tower-related. I screamed at my then-girlfriend "Oh my God, this is a freakin' Dark Tower book!!!" In hindsight, it's not such a big deal since lots of King books have Tower connections, but it was a cool revelation at the time. I'm not sure if we're done with those two just yet. There's three books to go, and King has intimated that they might just crop up again.
  7. Has anybody here read the revised & expanded edition of The Gunslinger yet? As Hiriyu pointed out, the original version of The Gunslinger was written long ago and doesn't necessarily jive with the later volumes. The new version has some interesting additions, including a small subplot that apparently pays off in the next book. I can't spoil it for you, since I have no idea what it is, but I can tell you it has something to do with the number 19. However, most significant is the changes made during Roland's palaver with The Man in Black, also known as Walter and one or two knew surprises that changes a lot of what we thought we knew about Roland's quest. I'm not certain I agree with this new change, but I'll wait to see how he addresses it in Wolves of the Calla.
  8. I'm just curious...is there anybody here following the Dark Tower series? I just reread the first 4 books, and with Wolves of the Calla due out in November I had a hankering to chat about it. Anybody...?
  9. Heh...if Lucas had made Phantom Menace (or something resembling it) in 1977 instead of New Hope, I guarantee you that half the members of this board would have grown up sleeping in Darth Maul jammies, while sleeping between Jar Jar sheets.
  10. Actually, if you want to get technical the Hidden Fortress influence faded away after the first few drafts of the ANH screenplay. Phantom Menace has more in common with Hidden Fortress that the final version of ANH. How much of the saga's backstory Lucas had in mind in '77 is often debated in SW circles, but nobody can deny that subsequent installments utilized elements that were developed but shelved for the original "Star Wars" movie. New Hope may be space opera, but it never had any pretentions to the contrary. Since 1977 Lucas has billed it as such, readily citing his influences from Flash Gordon to Kurosawa. Only the fans have raised the OT (particularly Empire) to dogmatic levels. Like it or not, these were kids movies from day 1.
  11. Now what could this mean? I don't think any of us would find 1/72 or 1/60 scales "surprising" so what does it mean? 1/48? 1/55? Or maybe a newly made-up scale, like 1/51 or? I'll put my money on 1/32 scale!
  12. Actually, it's not too well known that Lucas actually directed the throne room scenes in Jedi, including the Anakin reveal at the very end. And although he didn't actually write the sceenplays for Empire and Jedi, he was deeply involved in story conferencing with Kasdan during the writing process. Ultimately, what's on the screen is there because he wanted it to be there. Also, e-critics also love to omit the fact that Lucas somehow managed to write and direct A New Hope all by himself, without the "help" of Kershner and Kasdan.
  13. LOL! You have NO idea wha you're talking about.
  14. You guys need to go back and read my above post before jumping on the "Lucas si t3h suxorz" comments. I'll say it again, but in a more to-the-point manner. AICN is full of crap!!!!! If you believe them, then I have an SDF-1 to sell you. That is all.
  15. I hear....that if you stare too long at a picture of Man-Faye for too long....he steals your soul! Ooooooh....scary!
  16. Guys (and Gals)...I hope you're not putting any faith in anything AICN has to say on Star Wars. This "Digital Redux" rumor is in no way new, since it's been circulating since 2000 or so. I highly doubt Lucas has any interest in "prequelizing" the ANH duel, since he himself described the two combatants as an "Old man and a cripple." And the supposed ROTJ Padme footage has also long since been debunked. Moreover, there's no need for extra footage, since Padme is going to DIE in Ep III. Die die, die die. Worms in her eyes.
  17. 1/72 isn't a bad scale for larger Valks like the YF-19 and such, it's just a question of how to cram all the joints needed for transformation into a toy that size. Yamato has come a long way since the original toys from Plus, but there's only so much you can do without compromising the structural integrity of the toy. <_
  18. OK, I have a dumb question. What's the 'seed' in Gundam SEED mean?
  19. Hmmm...Much insight into the fanboy mentality, you have.
  20. One or two seem to. The others....well, maybe it's like an "initiation" type of thing on one of the other forums. You know; if you want to be part of the "in" crowd you have to first troll the Macross Purist forums.
  21. Yeah, it's what my friends and I have termed the "Shiny New Gundam" syndrome. A new and improved mecha is always preceeded by a tragedy and a period of introspection.
  22. Possibly Anthony Daniels might return to do 3PO, but otherwise the cast will be the usual Lucasarts players. The voices in the Clone Wars game were decent enough. A lot of people were disappointed that they were only going to be 5 minute shorts, but I have faith in Tartovsky. He has a good sense of pacing, and his work is dynamic and interestingly framed in the "camera". And like you said, it's better than nothing.
  23. Not really an MPC related comment, but it's Toynami related.... I picked up a pair of Alpha Superposeables on the weekend, and I was fairly impressed. The paint was decently applied, joints were pretty tight and the seams looked good. Are the latest of the MPC Very-teks made to similar QC standards? I'm hoping that the MPC Alpha will be at least similar in construction and detailing.
  24. The Clone Wars cartoon is a series of shorts by Genndy Tartakovsky, of Samurai Jack and Dexter's Lab fame. It takes place after AOTC, and somewhat fleshes out the years of the Clone Wars. Don't expect too much depth though, as each short will only be 5 minutes long. But we are going to see some neato visuals in addition to a few new characters. And if you're like us Canadians, you'll have to either download them or wait for the DVD, since we don't get no stinking Cartoon Network. <_<
  25. Which of our "old" board members are still unaccounted for? Do we have an M.I.A. list?
