  1. Actually...how accurate are the scales pertaining to each model/figure line in relation to each other? Does a 1/48 Valk scale perfectly to a 1/48 Cobra helicopter or a 1/48 tank? Just wondering since the scales are decided by the manufacturer of the model/toy....its bound to be wrong and strange in some instances.

  2. Regards the AK47, there was a recent programme on BBC Television where a journalist opened up a AK47. Its no wonder they don't break, theres noting in the thing! I swear I saw a piece of string in there...!

The same presenter also fired a clip on full automatic at a van standing no more than 50 yards away, as a demonstration of the AK47s muzzle climb.

    It was untouched...

To be fair, any hand held rifle on full auto won't hit the van either.

  3. 10 seconds worth of ammo, and they use it to shoot down missles.....10 seconds doesn't feel very realistic.

As a matter of fact, 200 rounds seems abit little. How much does a modern fighter jet's Vulcan cannon have anyway? I'm not a military freak, so I wouldn't know.

I don't see the GU-11 gunpod holding too many rounds though. I mean 55mm rounds should be pretty big.

The 3 barrels on the GU-11's muzzle are pretty small relatively to the whole gunpod, just as a relative size of the bullet to the Gunpod. Not sure how the rounds are fed into the chambers to roughly estimate how much the gunpod can hold though. Most probably its fed through chains like a gattling gun.

  4. Holy crap, Spiff...that's awesome. Damn how do people scratchbuild stuff.....

Your sculpt looks abit more bulky than I've envisioned though but otherwise its still kick ass.

Is this your completed work? Or a picture for reference?

UXI: can you point me to Graham's review about VF-22S sculpt? I don't see it.

  5. Forget GBP. Now that they have released the VF-11B fastpacks, i wish they'd release the VF-11C, otherwise known as the Full armor VF-11 which appeared 2 times in Macross 7. I personally think that the armor looks slick and kick ass!

But the future for this release looks dim, considering that they're still releasing stuff from DYRL and more recently, Macross Zero. I really want to see VF-22s released as well, with a modified sculpt of the YF-21. (considering all the problems it has)

  6. n00b modeller here wanting some advice. I want to clean my 1/48 valk from some residual gundam marker black marks which I can't reach with an eraser. What solution would you recommend? I've heard people used "thinner". Now, its to my understanding that thinner corrodes plastic....or am I wrong here?

I also want to remove the VF-1S head so I can panel line it easily. Is it easily removable by just unscrewing the head from the bottom of the black flip panel that the head rests on?

Lastly, I was thinking of weathering the valk. An interesting and seemingly easy method I came across was, use a Q-tip and some thinner+water solution (again I ask is it safe to use thinner...) , and use a Q-tip dip it in the solution and swab it on the panel lines and let the black ink bleed to the sides. Are there any other recommended ways of weathering?

  7. BTW: I ordered a box of ten from HLJ and receive three Hikaru's VF-1A, two Glaugs, two Miria's Gerwalks, two Max's gerwalks and one Q-Rau. I'm rather pissed off because HLJ says that they come in a sealed box so they cannot assure which gashapons they are sending. Mines came into an open white thin cardboard box and was very easy to see the toys into their transparent egss...I mean: three red VF-1A and none VF-1S!!...at leats I have a Q-Rau.

You know, you could get it through "normal" means and guranteed you'd get everything in the collection instead of HLJ's randomness.

  8. Graham,

Can you add these to MW customs? They make great reference pictures.

I'd advice against that. These are not MW-ers customs for one and the pictures were taken off a public japanese toy site. So I don't think "stealing" pictures would be a wise thing to do.

  9. Check these pictures out:

    Pic1

    Pic2

    Pic3

If i'm not mistaken, these are from the K&M series and he got a whole fleet up by customising them. Or....there were more mechas in series 1 @ 2 that I thought there were.

  10. Star Wars had the same problem. The craft in the prequels look more 'futuristic' than their descendants in the prequels, but only in asthetics. Even then it's much more of a retro-futuristic asthetic. Hell, they even went all out on the chrome. Still, people complained that things looked more advanced, when this really wasn't the case.

I thought it was common knowledge that the prequels in Star Wars really HAD better technology than later because they still had them cool un-sanctioned technology before the empire's reign. Technology was simply lost during the rebellion or sanctioned by the empire. Technology even during the time of the Old Republic was over the top uber ness.

But this isn't a star wars thread.....

  11. The Q-Rau SUCKS!!

    SUCKS!

    SUCKS!

    Because of this.

LOL! Not enough a** for you?

The freaky thing is I dreamt the review was up yesterday night and sure enough this morning, lo and behold its there. GASP!!

Graham: You stated in your review that it is very poseable with 32 points of articulation, but the pictures don't really show much so i'm kinda doubtful. I was just wondering could it pose the famous "missle barrage" pose. ya know, hands hugging the body, slightly crouched and all missle pods opened? That's the final factor that would make me buy/not buy the Q-rau. PS: Oh...and do the knees bend and thighs move?

    Thanks. ;)
