  1. I've been wondering if they're purposely trying to make it as un-Yamato as possible.

I've been wondering if they just like to hear teeth gnash around these parts...

    <_<

I think Bandai is "Mommy Deaf" from all the years of fans bitching about every little

detail (CoughZETAGUNDAMCough) on an item. It just gets old after a while, and becomes

background noise. Kind of like insects on a autumn day. They screech and rachet into

the sunset but the sun still sets and by all that is robotic I will buy this series of product

with all the armor and what not because it and the series it hails from is Effin' Schweet!

    But not perfect...

    ^_^

  2. "But the JP ones have pointless neon chrome that ruins them!"

I recommend some 5oo grit to scuff it and paint as you like.(+)

Hell I'm getting the Takara versions because I like their paint job better,

    especially on the torsos.

    (+)

(I've been contemplating getting the old G1 seeker rifles and re-doing the pegs to fit. Just a thought.)

  3. I'm interested too!

I am curious how "articulation friendly" this kit will wind up.

I like to add joint kits to some of my static resin figures

    from time to time.

  4. I sent out payment today for a G1 Hardhead I finally tracked down! I cannot wait to get him... I'm in the process of picking up a bunch of different head and target-masters right now... it'd be awesome to get a couple -masters in the Classics line.

Be very carefull with his chest panel. The gray plastic gets grouchy with age and the way the door is pinned

it's really easy to break the hinge. Just FYI

Otherwise he's a fun design from that era. One of my favorites.

  5. Two things I have to add to this thread:

    1. This thread has been remarkably funny and restrained all things considered

    Thanks for the laughs everyone.

    2. I have this co-worker who is built at about the same proportions as Klan Klan, but

with a proportionally thicker midsection. I'll tell you now, when she swivels that

-ahem- "pillow turret" in my direction and I can feel my IQ lag a good 15-20 points.

Needless to say between her and this other girl that gives her some competition.

There are days when I wish I could wear shades in the office. Seriously...

  6. As for Motoko, despite her size, she is pretty damn poseable - not to mention her face is pretty well sculpted, too. And because of her size, her joints can support the whole body. Double ball-jointed shoulders, ball jointed wrists, ball and swivel jointed feet, ball jointed hips, ball jointed waist, swivelling thighs and arms.

Oh, and single ball jointed head at the neck to body, instead of neck to head. Still works pretty well. She comes with a pair of open hands only, and both the rifle and handgun with hands sculpted on.

Proportion-wise, pretty good but I find the thighs a tad bit chunky (unless Motoko really does have fat thighs, haha).

All-in-all pretty good, but the price warrants more extra items and gimmicks packaged in.

The Major has always had some serious "Stems". In GITSAC she is generally shown to have a fairly muscular

lower body like an athlete. What has always surpirsed about the character is that she is a bit indulgently

feminine physically (Remember her body is made to order) and almost never indulgent at all psychologically.

In the first manga she was more laid back and a bit hedonistic at times. But in the animated material she

is far more staid (except for the wardrobe...) and only rarely shows her sense of humor or any affection.

  7. I agree on Masterpiece Starscream, one of the best things in my collection, and of course Kawamori himself designed that one, so I'm glad to say (as a person who currently doesn't actually own any valks) that I do own at least one thing designed by Kawamori.

Also agreed that Bandai seems to be doing excellent so far, my faith never waned. While armored pack doesn't interest me as much, I will want to see how it looks as well.

Kawamori redigested the MP Seeker design and arguably did some to improve it and quite a bit to hurt it.

Especially the legs/feet/tail-booms issue. The redesign of the arms and cannons didn't win any points

    with me either.

  8. Any type really. a VF-1 is not a very agile craft ij terms of close quaters combat, and a Gundam is a vey close quaters kind of mech. If the -1 can hokld it at range for a bit, it might wear ity down with its gunpod, but i suspect the Gundam would get in close and finish it.

As fotr the Xwing, the 1 can transform, which lends itself to a greater manouverability and range of fire than an xwing, which is locked into turning circles. Yes, the Xwing has shields, but i suspect they could be worn down by bullets.

Just to get the bolded part out of the way first:

Any Star Wars fighter with basic particle shields would laugh at a 55.mm solid projectile pretty much infinitely.

And consider even the fragile TIE Fighter has this basic form of shielding.

    Macross Mecha:

Engineering: Macross and its two primary races have access to some damned fine engineering.

All of the UN-SPACY's hardware is designed to be versatile, and competent at their job. This

is especially so by the time of Macross+Plus and Macross 7.

Offensive: Some excellent energy weapons technology pilfered from Zent technology. Also

Reflex and Reactive weapons are something to take serious by pretty much all Sci-fi settings.

Defensive: Physical armor that ranges from adequate (Vf-1) to decent (Destroids and armored Valks).

The UN-SPACY is at he edge of decent force barrier technology but still is in the minor leagues compaired

    to higher end Sci-fi/fantasy.

    Gundam UC:

Engineering: The Universal Century setting has a varied level of quality when it comes to it's technical

achievements. Some units are truly superior, whereas some plainly do not rank well. Generally

humanity's learning curve is pretty steep in th UC setting. The early mecha are tough but are also

designed clunkily, but by the later part of the continuity the designs are pretty outstanding and

    well though out.

Offensive: The UC mecha have access to some very respectable firepower, to the level that could

give the high end Sci-fi settings a run for their money. After all their back up weapon (60mm

vulcans) could shred most of the mainline mecha from Macross. It only gets (much) more destructive

    from there.

Defensive: Gundam engineers are not shy with the armor plate and with the SUUPAH MEGA DEFENSE

JIBBERISH that are Minovsky Particles pretty much guarantees that Fire and Forget weapons are a

    a waste of time.

    Gundam AC:

See Gundam UC but throw any concept of ballance or practicality out the window.

    Gundam SEED:

See Gundam AC only not quite so much.

    Star Wars:

Engineering: Over all practical and rugged. The technology in Star Wars is designed to be effective

and endurant. Star Wars has full AI on tap, excellent high end energy manipulation, and some

of the best powerplant and drive technology in all of science fiction/fantasy. Their cannon fodder

vehicles can wipe the battlefield with the prestige units in other continuities. Remember the

Death Star was built in this continuity. It's pretty hard to top that.

Offensive: Star Wars has some truly massive firepower available to even the meekest starfighter.

A dedicated gun platform like the X-Wing or the B-Wing would take the best military vehicles most

continuities can offer without so much as a bead of sweat.

Defensive: Once agin Lucas's universe wins here pretty big as well. Shielded vehicles in the

"Galaxy far far away" have by necessity the level of defensive sheilding required to give

them a chance against vehicles sporting guns in the 300 million Gigawatt range. Since

most Sci-fi haven't had tens of millenia on a million million worlds to develope their tech

base they just don't rate comparitively

    Star Trek:

Humans and their allies 3-4 centuries from now. yet surpringly only Star Wars technology and

Zentraedi capital ship tech can really give 24th century's UFP a run for it's money. But rest

assured when it's all said and done The Empire or the Zentaedi would come out on top.

The best and only advantage The Federation and contemporaries can field is that warp

drive hauls serious ass in real-space (sort of...) compared to jump drive technology used

in most other high tech continuities.

Oh and for the record no you cannot "Gate" A Variable fighter, they are all too wide.

Way too wide, even when folded up as narrow as possible.
