  1. Actually, Tatsunoko became a subsidiary to Tomy-Takara when Takara bought majority stake in the company. They will continue to act independent of Takara considering Tomy-Takara is primarily a toy maker and Tatsunoko is an animation studio. And it probably won't change anything, at least on the HG-end.
  2. Anime is relatively cheap per episode compared to stuff coming out of Hollywood. Macross Frontier's movie probably made back and more compared to its budget. The average Hollywood budget for a 1-hour show ranges from $1-2 Million USD. IIRC, Battlestar Galactica cost's for Ron Moore ran about ~$1.5-2 Million USD/episode. I've heard Stargate SG-1's budget/episode ran about $2-2.2 Million USD/episode. One of the worst I've heard was ER, which ran ~$13 Million USD/episode. I've heard a 30-minute episode of Friends spent ~$1 Million USD PER ACTOR. So if we want to do a closer apples-to-apples comparison, The Simpsons Movie's budget was $75 Million USD. So yeah, Hollywood budgets are significantly higher so it's probably going to be harder to compare the 2 markets. If I had to make a guess, I would say Macross Frontier's budget/episode probably ranged from ~29-35 Million JPY/episode. I'm basing this on GitS:SAC's, SEED Destiny's and Eureka 7's budgets, accounting for inflation and music.
  3. LIARS! The dead priest lady from Season 1 and 2 was the Cylon sleeper. Well, you can watch The Plan or you can keep watching Season 4. What we should all do is hide our spoilers in our posts just to mess with Gubaba.
  4. Speaking of which, SE II came out today (technically tomorrow). Looks like they cleaned a few things up and the preview for SE III shows some of the aftermath of the big battle from the series finale.
  5. If I'm not mistaken, TOHO and Bandai Visual would have the distribution rights to DYRL?'s animation (TOHO being the primary and BV sub-contracted for home video) in Japan. So any distribution of DYRL? would end up going through TOHO.
  6. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_design I'm not sure it applies here, unless we start mass-producing VF-looking vehicles with the exact same function. If I'm reading it correctly, the Stormtrooper costumes were mass-produced stunt men for the movies, so they are covered by design law. If it was a one-of-a-kind design, then design law doesn't apply. Because Stormtrooper costumes come from concepts of full-body armor, it's not so much art as it is a conceptual design. Why? Because for generations, we've been making full-body armor. We may have modified things here or there, but the concept remains the same, full-body armor. An industrial designer can take the Stormtrooper costume, modify and apply it to real-world armor design. It won't look pretty but its function would be identical. Heck, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra had a full-body armor suit. Agreed. HG was basically pumping out a design to uphold their trademark. Yes, it's a cheap way to get more of a product out there but frankly, Yamato does the same thing. All those recolored VF-1s? Same thing as our "Stealth Veritech". It's really not worth getting all worked up crying "RIP-OFF!!!".
  7. I'll wait till they show up on screen. Anyways, those look like the detailed lineart for the Gunpla. Well, except for 00 Qan[T].
  8. Current graphics cards can do smoke.
  9. From what I've seen in the Comic-con footage and guessing Tony hands over the Mk II suit and Hammer modifies it according to military specs. But that's guessing. I'm not sure where they got the mini reactor.
  10. I mean I'd rather not have this thread become entrenched in that debate. If they want to post a talking point or leave comments, they should either PM you or in the Debate thread as opposed to in this thread since we don't want this thread to become a part-2 of the debate thread. You may want to do a 2-part podcast, one to deal with you and your fellow commentators' talking points, and then a separate show for potential user comments. Just an idea.
  11. *tap tap tap* You may want to ask this in the HG/RT debate thread. I'd rather not bring discussion of this beyond that thread. Or they can PM you some responses.
  12. The 1/72 VF-25F is also getting a metallic coating version
  13. Alright kids, let's stay focused here. Yes, they risk alienating older fans, but really, RT is NOT HG's only source of income. Real estate isn't just their only source of income. Majority of their income comes from licensing. Frank Agrama is in the business of buying up distribution licenses and selling them to other countries. If the diehards get felt like they're getting the shortend of the stick, I don't think it would make much of a difference. If HG wants to keep making money from the Tatsunoko license (and vice versa), they'll have to maintain the deal.
  14. PG kits are not known to sell fast due to pricing. PG kits are also geared toward high-end collectors so it won't be uncommon for a PG kit to still be in stock while MG kits disappear.
  15. Which browser are you using?
  16. I don't think we can speak for BW, but I'm sure US Renditions and Manga Entertainment were doing the "WTH is this *bleep*"-reaction. But I think Seto is closer to the mark, BW and Bandai probably don't see much $$$ coming their way if they go international. Legal stuff would probably be the least of their concerns. Return investment is probably the overriding issue to legal woes. Frontier probably didn't help itself by including music from SDFM, DYRL?, and 7. Even if it was just a few songs, that's still royalties. And with things as they are with the recession, I'm sure pulling money for licensing is tight enough as it is. I'm fairly sure toy rights would be in that deal. As Yogurt would say "Merchandising!" HG would get a cut of the profits from the deal.
  17. Looks like you get those flat media control panel. I hate those. I once played with a Dell 13" Inspiron with the touch-style media controls. I hated the disc eject "button". Also reminds me of a HP laptop I set up for a family member earlier this year. I hate those touch controls. I got use to wide-screen displays. You'll never go back.
  18. Really, who does? I certainly don't. He's just another strange person on the 'Net. I've said it many times, let them live in their own world over there. No matter how silly they may be over there at RT.com or RTX or where ever, let it be. It ain't our problem. If you have a problem with them, deal with it there. If they don't want to listen to you over there, then there's nothing we can do about it here. So don't waste your time. And if all this madness starts becoming a problem here, then maybe we need to clean out some of the membership here.
  19. I'd hate to break this to you, but you're a commoner too. So you can either politely join this discussion or leave peacefully. And trust me, the next mod to stop by probably won't be as gracious as me.
  20. You mean a dub? Sorry, none exists.
  21. Mod mode How about this, let's end this year on a quiet note. Seto, those 2 grammar-deficient kids followed you here because you keep pointing out their lies, stupidity, and general denial symptoms. Seriously, we get it. We all know what they said is completely false, mindless, and illiterate nonsense. The few posts that they've made in the past 2 days has made that so crystal clear. It is of no use to point out the bleeding obvious. So you can quit doing it. Please. And this applies to rest of you. We know what they say is so nonsensical, so mindless, that we could probably fill 100+ books on the subject. Let's just wrap this all up and move on. From now on, let's just assume everything they spit out is false and has no real substance. That way, instead of pointing out what kind of mindless kids run the asylum over there, we can look for some glimmer of actual intelligence. A SETI project, if you will compare.

  23. Nah, we didn't help him. He's just pushing out the same faux-news BS. Except this time, he's using procedural action papers as "evidence". He's just catering to his fanbase: the kids who don't follow links and read.
  24. Actually it is very circular/repetative (Yes, I dug that out of 2003). The players change, but the debate and argument are the same. Only back then, we had users using proper English grammar and correct punctuation. Go back and read the old versions of this thread for yourself and you'll see. This time, we have users like Seto, memo, and doug, who seem to be following one another around (Seto, seriously, we need to have a talk about the people that follow you home ). It's way beyond silly stupid and trust me, in 10 years of being here, this has happened before and will happen again. I'm just waiting for the one random event to even things out.
  25. I imagine the Chronicle is echoing the other books. There's no RVF-171EX or VF-171EXS, just VF-171EX Alto-type, VF-171EX Luca-type, and VF-171EX standard-type.
