  1. How are they attached on the bottom?

Well, for the hanger stands I made, it varies depending on which toy you're making one for and in which mode you're displaying it in. Yamato battroids are the easiest; the top of the hanger is just folded over horizontal and slipped up the side and under the hinge panels that connect the chest to the back. Fighter mode with super parts was a bitch... basically, you fold a u-shape type "tray" for the valk to rest in, with one end of the U folder upward to slip in between the head and intake of the valk to hold it better. Tricky part is getting the balance right to where the valk is secure and the weight is distributed evenly over the base shape of the stand. I haven't done a non-super valk yet, but I'm assuming it'll be tons easier without the weight.

For the yf-29, I used a similar u shape for the valk to rest on, and it rests between the arms of the valk in fighter mode securely because the springiness of the hanger "clips in" between them.

It's tricky to get the perfect stand shaped for whatever pose and mode you're trying to display, but for 10 cents a pop, I'm happy... :)

  2. I love the praise everyone is giving NY nowadays seeing as how I was hammered for sticking up for them a little while ago by people who insisted on "sticking to their principles" waiting for the 25G pre-order through HLJ and Ami Ami. Good customer service and reliability always rises to the top though... :)

  3. Nippon Yasan is excellent... buy with confidence! lol... they'll even accomodate you by honoring your preorder even if you need to delay payment for it for a bit. Their prices do generally go up bit by bit after initial preorders are done, but they always manage to fulfill all the orders they take unlike some other online stores.

  4. San Jose Flea Market, $5 bucks to get your Robotech/Macross on with these... the fun always ended with these via breaking the flimsy gate slot that the shoulders slid in during transformation (at least on all mine).

  5. While working in the toy room today, I got bored and started building flight pose stands for my Marvel Legends, DCUC, and Marvel Universe figs using aluminum wire and wire hangers. I eventually got carried away and decided to try scaling up the tech to my 1/60 valks... and wtf it actually worked out. The few I did today were just to get an idea of the weight and balance involved, and I'll be refining them to look a lot cleaner over the next few days. Note that you should only be using vinyl coated hangers (not painted) so that you don't scratch up any paint. Also, I found that battroid is by far the easiest mode to build stands for, and while it took me only one attempt to shape a decent stand for my YF-29 in fighter mode, my 1/60 Yamatos in fighter mode toke a ton of attempts... the weight and balance of the Yamato V2's is really tricky to deal with, and it really started pissing me off. Eventually I got the valk up on a stand, but I definitely need to revisit it with a more thought out approach. Anyhow, enjoy, and if you're looking for a cheap and easy way to get your valks flying, give it a go... ;)

  6. I'm down with an M&M reissue... I wouldn't buy another set, but having paid $400 for the pair I have and knowing that a reissue would be about that same price shipped makes me feel good that I basically broke even. :)

  7. Fair enough. There is, however, one more thing in addition to painting the yellow/red bits the correct shade of blue (French/Royal blue?) you'll need to do to existing super packs to convert them to Michael's specs. ... you'll need to create decals or stencils for renumbering the components to his G's SMS 003.

Yeah, not really concerned with the markings... as long as the colors are straight, I'm set.

  8. Why, bother? Unlike the 25s themselves, the super and armor packs for the renewals have been easy to secure through Nyppon-Yassan, likely because they are exclusive items instead of the limited production mass market Messiahs.

It's not a matter of worrying about availability... I could get the parts for cheap now, stick a bit of paint on them, and have them ready for the 25G when it gets in this month. So... why not?

  9. At a discount price of $70, I went ahead and ordered an Alto Super Parts set to use with the 25G. Seriously, it only has minor color changes in 5 spots, so with a simple repaint on those sections, I've taken out the drama of waiting for yet another Bandai exclusive preorder sh*t storm for the "official" 25G colored parts. (High 5'ing self).

  10. Oh that's true, you could always just mix and match the components. I'm personally a fan of the VF-1D head on the VT-1. ^_^

In fact, I might mix and match things a bit more than that.. I wish I could get a set of regular fast packs like the VE-1's in orange.. then I could slap them on the VT-1, throw on the VF-1D head, and outfit it with a pair of strike cannons, or missile launchers.

Grr, now I'm wishing they would issue a tan/orange set of strike packs for the VT-1/VF-1D.

I pre-ordered an extra set just to make that color scheme a reality... ;)

  11. Well, sad to say, I tested my VT-1's packs on my VF-1D, and they don't really fit or stay on at all. You can fit the leg packs, obviously, but the backpack doesn't line up.

The boosters can slide on without any trouble, but there's nothing to hold them on, since they need that extra backpack piece to clip onto. While you can put the backpack piece on, attaching the boosters to it means you have to pull up the backpack to the angle the VT-1's normally sits at, which doesn't work with the VF-1D's tails folded over.

Now, whether the VE-1's boosters are any different I don't know, but I would assume they use the same type of backpack clip, or some other similar method to attach to the other backpack type, without having the tails folded.

Haha, thanks for checking Chrono... I actually checked the other day too just before reading your post, and figured I could just switch the 1D backpack out entirely for the VT-1 pack so that the boosters would work.. or I might just stick my 1D's head onto the VT-1... so many ways to be ghetto about it, I need to just pick an option. lol

  12. Funny, but my only interest in getting either a 2nd VE-1 or VT-1 would be specifically for the super parts... I don't need a 2nd valk of either one, but I'd sure love to slap their backpacks and super parts onto other valks with similar colors.

  13. I don't believe that you could easily just snap two one-seater setups together to get the two-seater seat piece, since the seats both look connected to a single rail piece. It'd probably be very easy to mod two together though, with a minimal amount of cutting.

But with the way Bandai works, the absolute last thing you want to do is delay getting the renewal VF-25s. If you've got one on preorder, I'd hang onto that for dear life.

Thanks Chrono... it doesn't look hard to mod at all; I know that I'd have no use for the single seat parts if I buy 2 fp sets, so I'd just throw them together for my Virgin Road valk. As far as the VT-1 packs on the VF-1D, I've just been too lazy to pull those valks out of my case and try it... lol. But, I assumed it would work as long as the 1D's fins aren't folded down.. crap, I hope it works!

Also, good thoughts on the 25G... Bandai's supply issues and their toys' quick jump in price shortly after release is making me hesitant. Still, I've got a bunch of house stuff and holiday things to consider, so something has to give... I just don't know what yet! haha

  14. Can anyone confirm if the single seater option parts set can be connected to form the two seater VF-1D style setup without modding? Or would that require gluing them together? Thanks in advance peeps... :) Honestly, these announcements have me stressing over my budget for the rest of the year! I might have to let a pre-order or two go, and it's looking like the VF-25G might be sacrificed for 2 FP's and the potential VT-1 reissue right now... :( I've been wanting to stick a VT-1 super parts set onto my VF-1D for a long time now, and a reissue would finally make that possible from a cost standpoint.

  15. There is not difference in Yamato FP color is there between TV and DYRL?

There is... TV set is a lighter bluish color, DYRL is a darker greenish color.

This announcement is too cool... at least 2 fp sets for custom work, but a pass on the ve-1 in favor of a possible vt-1 reissue and all the future mac f valks. My budget is Macrossed out! lol

  16. yes exactly

because everyone wants a toy of a robot from 30 years ago and not say, a replica of the guitar used by this guy

Well... who knew the Japanese Jimmy Page was going to be rocking this thing. I can see your point after that. :)

  17. Yamato has done the research and decided that making a TV SDF-1 or even a Glaug could never possibly have enough appeal among Macross fans to sell well and justify production. In the meantime, those same marketing geniuses just know THIS thing will be a massive hit and totally worth making:

... good looking out, Yamato. Pfft.

  18. Just arrived today: this nice, sparkling white SDF-1. Great condition except for one of the tiny antennae missing, but easy enough of a fix and the price was nice. No idea how I'm going to fit a cavalier in my 1/60 Yamato section now though...

  19. Who says they won't be selling more in the future? As long as the line is alive there's a chance.

I'm as hopeful as anyone, but a while back on one of the threads (was it the 30th anniversary option parts announcement thread?), we all read a Yamato statement that they weren't going to be making them anymore. BUT, on the plus side, that doesn't mean they don't have a secret stash in a warehouse that would prevent them from selling more in the future.
