  1. That's so incredibly frustrating. I wish we could get some Macross over here.
  2. Since we will not be getting Macross Frontier here in the states anytime soon, is there an official Spanish dub available on blu-ray?
  3. I know they are not models, but I love the look of the Gundam Fix/Zeonolagy series. Are they good quality? Are they worth picking up. I figure with Gundam being my fav franchise, that they would be nice to collect and display.
  4. Perhaps Warner Bros. may have even seen how the legal issues affecting the franchise may be too much to overcome. It's not like they would be the first company to buy the rights to something that were already in a tangled web. I suspect they may eventually let the rights return to owner. They have enough "in house franchise" such as finishing the Harry Potter movies. Then with Marvel's success at the box office, W.B. has their DC comic adapatations to worry about. Take for example, the 3rd Batman titles for next year, the Superman movie for 12'-13'. Then you have to flesh some other movies to go the inevitable Justice League route to match Marvel's Avengers. Thehn the sequels to such movies, such as Wonder Woman and more Superman films. Then they also have the Potential Xerexes(300) movie. Then the Tomb Raider film franchise. Also they have the Lord of the Rings, not sure if they have rights to the Hobbit though. On the Animation front, they have Thundercats, Young Justice, and a New Looney Toons series. Plus the DC animated films. All these combine to make me believe that Robotech related films and/or animated works and games would be much lower on the priority chart than anything else. Combine this with the complicated legal issues and the fact that aside from Transformers (which the film series is ending this year) most 80's properties are returning not as movies but as animated series, the prospects for a LAM RT movie seems slim. In the end I think HG wagered all their potential prospects in the WB basket only to find out too late that nothing of substance will come from it in the near future. Eventually you have to look back and when 2012 hits, look at Robotech and see that since 06' nothing has happened. Sure the sidequel is in production but between 02-06 there were book reprints, new comic series, games, TSC...etc etc etc...(quality not withstanding) things were being done. This leads me to believe that if nothing comes o the WB deal, then expect Kevin and Tommy to be given the boot. Then again this is all my opinion only.
  5. One of the things that bothers me about HG are the cease and desist letters certain groups get while other are ignored. For instance a while back, wasn't there a fan group working on a Robotech animation/cgi hybrid? Well if I remember correctly they were told to stop yet the peeps in Argentina are allowed to do their live action fan film? That makes no sense.
  6. Funny thing about the writing is that I have been told by multiple people that Ford Riley is actually a very talented writer but was hampered heavily by the decisions made by Tommy Yune who seemed to be backed 100% by Frank Agrama. If you ever watch the "Making of a Sequel" feature on TSC, it's interesting to note when Agrama states "There were many, such as Tom, and Steve, but ONE person in particular has changed my view of Robotech, and that person is Tommy Yune" (As closely as I remember). He gushes over him, but when you look back at various reviews, you see how mixed they were. There was very little direct praise, it seems there was more mediocre/moderate to outright panning of TSC. When you look at this in retrospective you have to wonder if, by putting someone with experience drawing as the main guy, you wonder if you weakened the ability to write the story fans deserved before it even started.
  7. People often criticize Carl for the combining of the three series, however at that time his options were limited. I personally feel that he was a true anime fan. When he talked about anime in interviews, he seemed to generally wish for it to succeed here. I think, he even realized that Robotech was only a product of circumstance but still his creation...so in that aspect he wished to make it grow and possibly distance himself from the "Original Three" so to speak. I wish he could have seen this new project to fruition, however now with the status quo of HG...a franchise I personally enjoy is rotting...again. As far as DR MOVIE is concerned, the work they did on Shadow Chronicles was low grade, HOWEVER as a studio I do believe they are quite capable. I am more of the belief that the quality of Shadow Chronicles was a result of the seemingly low budget alotted to the project. If a superior budget was in place with a measure of consistent quality control, the DR MOVIE would be quite capable of a good product. if the major studios of Japan including MADHOUSE, Sunrise(My favorites), and Ghibli are confident to work with them then that says something. The best thing for Robotech would be to try their hardest to have some sort of sit down with all the people involved and simply do a rebuild of the series. What I mean is to get a true character designer and mecha designer and have them design every character from all 3 sagas, and design fresh mecha from all three. Give it a sense of continuity by having consistent designs and mecha to show a true progression. By recreating the series you can erase the problems caused by using three series. If money is such an issue, look for outside investors. So many productions have some sort of investor groups funding, HG should at least try. I feel that they expected a quick turn around with the LAM due to things like Transformersbut realized too late that they were now stuck waiting. As a result that left them stagnant as they were obligated to give Wb a sort of "First look/shot" at any new Robotech production. They may have failed to realize with WB house franchises such as DC comic movies (Competing with the Marvel on screen success) and Harry Potter, that Robotech was low on the rung and was most likely a "developement" property that they could toss around to see what could be kinda like a low round draft pick, you get them just in case... Just my take on things.
  8. The best thing for Robotech IMo would be not to "reboot" but to simply remake it. What I mean is to take the story elements and recreate the show using fresh character designs and fresh mecha designs. Approach it as a new show. Keep the story but fix the issues presented by the combining of 3 seperate series. Get a unified character design and a progressive mecha design similar to how U.C. Gundam, you can se how the mechs evolved. By doing this you force Robotech to stand on it's own merrits and can eliminate the so called "Macross purist" or "Dependency on Macross". Just rename the sagas. use the Zentran saga (or something) the masters saga and the Invid saga. This way for those of who love both RT and Macross can have both without all the bull poo.
  9. I find it interesting when I specifically stated TSr he talked about the sidequel as if people wouldn't notice. Then when he's called out on it he starts trying to talk technical only for relak to ask a VERY simple question that made his point worthless.
  10. I think he will start tripping over themselves as people stir the pot and other fans ask questions based on previous statements of his.
  11. Ok, that didn't really make sense. I was wondering more along the lines of, if it was a financial thing or licensing thing.
  12. I recently purchased the Blu-Ray box sets for FMP and FMP:TSR to replace my older ADV dvds. I had forgotten how, even though slightly, the character models where noticably different. I know GONZO animated the first series while Kyoto Animation animted the second. Does anyone know the reason for the switch?
  13. Got my downloads ready, and will watch this weekend. Will let you guys and gals know what I think. my initial impression though is a good one mixed with disappointment that it will likely never get a dub over here. Although one never knows.
  14. A wallet? Seriously? This is ridiculous.
  15. In a perfect world, I would have liked to have seen Robotech in a sense similar to Universal Century Gundam. You have the three different sagas, however as with First Gundam and Zeta, your main characters could be a mix of those that came before and new ones. However with the fact that it was three different shows that was impossible. Ideally a "remake" would be mice IMO but I doubt HG would ever in a millions years make a financial commitment for that. It's unfortunate because there are those of us who as fans, for whatever reason, keep interest in the franchise but don't equate interest with support for its current form.
  16. I will be working on DL'ing them as well as waiting for the links in case I miss anything. Just sucks that another epic series we will most likely not see stateside.
  17. I'm down for watching this as I have never seen it before. If people are going to watch it online, those of us on the east coast may be posting our views/opinions at much different times.
  18. I think that is why they are saying that it will be completed in 2011 but are not saying ti will be released in 2011.
  19. Toynami has definately had their issues but I have heard great things about the Betas as well as the Voltron stuff. Mixed results aside though, I know the Alpha has MANY complaints. Now is it that HG doesn't care about quality or the fact that the people running the show aren't qualified and as a result we get sub par products? I am inclined to believe it is a mix of both. Also I would imagine the "fanboy money" is drying up. With no real product to buy it seems to me that HG is floating on licensing money or just some of their own back money. If you look at the online store, most of the items are out of stock and haven't been re-filled in how long? Also the comics are not being sold here in the states anymore but yet are getting released as trades in Chine? Mugs and hats...yeah I don;t imagine them selling many of those. If you go to the main RT site you will actually see many people aside from a handfull are growing increasingly frustrated/anxious or simply leaving the site all together. Just look at the fact that pic released here was such an uproar becaus epeople are so starved for some product.
  20. Speaking of the animation quality, if you ever have the oppurtunity to watch the intro for DR Movie's Metal Fighter T-Boys, you can get a chance to see that can put out quality animtion as a stand alone firm. While I have never seen the show itself the intro was fairly well done with none of the inconsistencies of RTSC. My question is where was the quality control durring the making of RTSC and at what point did the staff realize the finished product was sub standard?
  21. One of the things I things that can get stale with Robotech are the constant attacks on Earth. While this is the premise of gthe original series, remember it ended with Scott leaving to look for the Admiral who himself went to look in the Sentinels. By taking the story off Earth we get to explore the RT universe more and finally see a push back by humanity. TSC however did not do this is a remotely interesting way. By visiting Haydon, Tirol, etc etc etc....we have a reason to see continued developement of various Veritechs and technology thus expanding the universe in it's own directon getting away from the design of the original series. AT least this is how I imagine it. It simply gives it a reason to be original.
  22. As someone who is a a fan of Robotech, I do disagree...slightly....many of the vocal members in the online comunity fit into this category. HOWEVER, in my experience, fans who are not active in the online community/fandom are much more level minded. Many of the fans I have met at the cons held here in Fl are aware of the problems associated with Robotech in its current form as well as the frustrations it causes for fans or Robotech AND Macross both. The largest frustrations seem to be the fact that there is little to no progress with Robotech with regards to actual animated projects(at least that is the perception)or storyline. Also for those like me that are fans of Macross as well, the frustration is doubled with the inablility to have Macross properties released here stateside. While many enjoy subs there are those of us who do not. Also please do not say only die hard anime fans enjoys because many of us preffer dubs. It is ultimately a matter of opinion, anyway...These things combined have built frustrations on both sides of the fence and have caused many to be angry with HG's handling of the Robotech franchise and the direction in which it is headed.
  23. Does everyone remember the "Real Men of genius" commercials for Bud Light? I think we should make one for Seto lol. Here's to you Mr.Macross II loving, Harmony Gold hating mech design Valkyrie lover.
  24. Looks like Kevin McKeever made a mistake which I am sure will annoy more RT fans. I find it funny as he mentions in an earlier page that the Documentary had pictures released because they had actual materials such as photos and screenshots, yet when it comes to the animation they do not... http://www.robotech.com/community/forum/read.php?id=2075615&forumid=31&pagenumber=16#post
