Looking forward to Graham's review. Meanwhile, let's share some pics by B_A_T_. I have to say these are some of the best pics I've ever seen in a toy's gallery. And Yamato, I don't know what to say, maybe just WOW!

There're some very fine pictures at GUNJAP site: http://www.gunjap.net/site/?p=10663 I've also found this picture somewhere in Google Japan, but I don't have the link, sorry.

Yes, that's the reason; it's a new hip technology that doesn't leave much room for intakes as you can see in the black sample picture. The designer expressly apologizes for that in the newest article at Yamato's site. It's a real shame but I guess he did consider the valk is in battroid mode most of the show and that's with the covers on.

This. Unfortunately, I don't think it'll be easy. The YF-19 and the VF-19 probably share only around 10%-15% of the mouldings. Right now I can only think of the landing gears, some articulations, the upper arms, and that's about it… And the know-how, of course, but it won't be as just to blow and make bottles…

Well, I don't really know for I don't own one. If the actual height of the toy in battroid mode is around 25.80cm without the laser gun it should be alright according to Macross Mecha Manual. Can you measure it?
-
I knew we had seen this before. The VF-11C is indeed lankier than the Kai as it is supposed to be. IMO, they look alright together. Picture from Yamato Open Showroom 2010.

Yes, indeed. That’s probably the unexpected die-cast Graham mentioned. And regarding toy sizes, to be line art consistent they should measure (in battroid mode): - VF-11C = 12.92m = 21.53cm - VF-11MAXL = 11.24m = 18.75cm - YF-19 = 15.48m (without cannon) = 25.80cm - VF-19KAI = 15.48m (without sensor fin) = 25.80cm - VF-22 = 15.50m = 25.80cm - VF-17 = 15.18m (top of head) = 25.30cm Thank you Macross Mecha Manual.

This.

Well, why not? The YF-19 is fine, but it looks like the Kai is much better toy, I mean, it looks like Yamato’s addressed all the problems the YF-19 had that everybody complained about.
-
Actually, I hope so; the YF-19 is way too tall IMO. It’s kind of amazing considering it’s about the same length in fighter mode.

SOME OF US MAY NOT LIKE THE VF-19KAI BUT GOODNESS SAKE, LOOK AT THIS!!! http://www.yamato-toys.com/dev/cont_095/?infolnk=index DECULTURE!!!

Looking good!!! Surprisingly enough, Yamato’s CAD drawing has EXACTLY the same shape than the line art. Just two differences though: the lower legs seem to be thicker in the CAD drawing, which makes me think the battroid mode might be on the chunky side. The other difference is the CAD drawing is much better looking!!! -

It well could be, but later on Graham also said: I don’t know why he’d say so if it wasn’t about the VF-19. -
I guess it’s because that’s how Basara’s dressed up most of the time, as Yamato also designed the toy departing from the battroid mode, which is how we see this valk most of the time in the show as well. Another reason could be that Basara’s informality is very iconic.

Actually, as he mentioned it in the VF-19 thread, I would’ve said he meant a sample toy of the Kai for a review not to be released until 05/19th. -

There’s another possible approach to the Macross7 line yet: Fz-109A Elgerzorene, Fz-109F Elgerzorene, Az-130A Panzerzorene, FBz-99G Saubergeran, etc. If the M7 show is so popular in Japan, who knows? That’d be fun. Anyway, I’m very glad with the news. The cad drawing looks great –even though for some reason it’s lacking the feet . I do think Yamato will approach this design from the chunky battroid mode side just as they did with the VF-19KAI with good aesthetic results. For the same reason I think that those who hope that the time for a VF-171 is closer by simply milking this new VF-17 up will be disappointed: It’s not just the nose cone, the proportions are very different –the VF-171 being much slender- let aside the fact Yamato hasn’t got the licence yet. As IMO the milking possibilities are a bit limited the price will surely be very high. To compensate Yamato should offer us lots of gimmicks they’ve got the tech for. -
