  1. About $50~$55 not including shipping. If you're hurting for money, I'd suggest waiting until the strength of the dollar recovers. It's not like these toys are gonna go OOP anytime soon. Release date for the Alto VF-25 is late February. Amazon Japan has it as February 25th.
  2. IIRC Bright wanted to take Amuro off the Gundam - to curb his cockiness. Amuro got pissed because he thinks Bright dissed him and/or no longer wants him. Not feeling wanted, Amuro jumps ship. You mean wrong thing to do. My biggest beef with modern animation is the lack of animation. I especially hate computer generated crap. SEED is a huge offender of using crappy looking CG animation. CG animation always feels to me like something cheap and a shortcut (I know it isn't, but that's what it feels like). There's something I like about animation that was done frame by frame in detail by hand. I'm not sure if I agree with your reasoning but there is something that makes "retro-ness" look right in a given show. I mean, heck, Macross too works on having a bit of retro to it.
  3. Has anything directed by Koichi Ohata turn out good and successful!? Great mecha designer but can't seem to direct an anime.
  4. I wouldn't say there's an anti-fanbase for Southern Cross. More like disinterest. But... MD Geist has an anti-fanbase! I think the whole entire anime fandom hates it. Hmmm... yet MD Geist did have a sequel so I guess it's not totally out of realm for a Southern Cross sequel or remake.
  5. Southern Cross failed in Japan and it's the least popular arc of the Robotech series. You have to ask yourself why any company would want to take interest in ressurrecting (and spending money on) a 25yr old dead, failed, and unpopular anime series.
  6. I was very disappointed with the secret unit. I mean, if they were going to give us a blue trim VF-1A, why didn't they simply give us Max's ship? Whomever at Yamato was in charge of this decision should get a dope slap. Not to mention, it's a scheme I haven't seen anywhere. I don't recall it being in the TV show. Anyone know for sure?
  7. The Bandai VF-25 is relatively easy since it's pre-colored & snapfit (ie. does not require glue or painting) but it is rather involved. There are A LOT of parts and the build could confuse you or overwhelm you if you've never put a kit togther. If you have absolutely no experience in building kits, it's best to build a little bit of kit building experience before you tackle something big like the Bandai VF-25. A couple of cheap Gundam kits should do the job of giving you some experience. Building and finishing the Gundam kits should provide you with the basic idea of how to snip parts off the trees, putting parts together, and following directions. But most importantly it'll give you some confidence.
  8. Highly unlikely that the missiles would not attach. However it is possible that the missiles will be exclusive to the Luca ship. IOW the missiles will only attach to Luca's ship and not to Alto or Ozma's.
  9. I've always had a problem with thinning the paint. It almost always gets too thin. I think it's because Gundams don't require so much coverage and the paint I pour out to use is no more than a couple of drops. As a result, I always end up just wetting the brush with thinner and using the paint straight out of the bottle. And usually just one layer suffices. Perhaps it's because I use enamel paint.
  10. Instead of a sequel, I'd like to see a rewrite or re-edit. I think a few changes here and there could make MacII a winner. Maybe SK could rewrite/re-edit it and somehow slide it into the official timeline. Ishtar is not for me. I like Silvie.
  11. It's really not fair to compare DYRL to the TV series. One is a TV series that has the luxury of telling a story over 36 episodes. The other is a movie that runs about 2 hours. You can't expect a 2-hour movie to tell everything that a TV series does. DYRL itself is a beautifully produced movie which essentially tells the TV series story at a slightly different angle and shorter timeframe. In the end it still has the same moral. DYRL (IMHO) is one of the best composed anime movies ever. Comparing it to the TV series and knocking it for not having certain parts more developed makes no sense. Both should be enjoyed for what they are. Not what they aren't. That said, some of the complaints against DYRL could exactly be what critics in the Macross universe might say about the movie. I could see it now - News headline: "SDF-1 veterans trashes new movie about Space War 1. Critics call it inaccurate and historical revisionism." XD
  12. He can also paint it the old fashioned way: brush painting ...which is what I do ; Perhaps harder to master, but quicker and cheaper to jump into.
  13. Latest Figure Oh article says that they will reveal (probably a prototype) on February 22nd at Akihabara
  14. Most of those services charge service and handling fees so in the end it would just be easier to purchase thru HLJ, Hobby Search and other places that sell to overseas customers.
  15. Amazon Japan doesn't sell toys (which includes plamodels) to overseas customers. Books and DVDs sure but not toys. I forget the reason why.
  16. Gundam 00 is not directed by Tomino. Seiji Mizushima directs Gundam 00. Tomino is not involved because he's not available, doesn't want to do it, or Sunrise wants to experiment with Gundam again. Sometimes it works, sometimes it utterly fails.
  17. No need to change it. I standby my original statement.
  18. I'm sorry but you must be blind. The 1/100 Bandai looks much better than that thing Yamato attempted. The style and proportions of the 1/100 Bandai rivals that of the 1/72 model kit. IHMO. Ofcourse my opinion could change once I actually get it in my hands.
  19. I need to get off my ass and starting building my kits. Here's what I recommend as bare minimum in terms of tools - - a nipper (can be found in any hardware store) - artist's knife or Xacto knife (can be found in any art store) - nail filing/buffing stick (can be found at any drug store) - Tamiya extra thin cement (can be found at any hobby store)
  20. I've been reading Japanese reviews. General consensus tends to be - Positives: - Use of diecast - Sturdiness - Ease of transformation - Parts that lock into place for each mode - Gloss finish - Proportions of battroid (quite a few said it's much better than the lineart) - General overall "look" Negatives: - Warped lasers on Ozma head (many say Bandai should've made the lasers swappable with an optional ABS version) - Lack of neck on Ozma head - Stubby landing gears - Not being able to store knife in shield - Having to swap hands for fighter mode Other comments: - Basically this is a "toy" not a scale model. - If you want an accurate model of the VF-25, go build that snapfit kit. These were the most common positive and negative notes. There were others who were more scathing and others who felt it was just fine.
  21. Come on folks, have a little faith. If Yamato went through the trouble of making an all new mold for one destroid, and all new upper torsos for others, why wouldn't they make an all new Spartan mold? Granted the Spartan does have less exploitability. But it does have the advantage of having been piloted by Hikaru in 1 episode. Besides, it's not like the Spartan has/needs a complex transformation system. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 1/60 Spartan come out sometime late this year.
  22. Not that unusual. Ships and people are both often named after famous people, places, and whatnot. Both in Japan and US. Besides, these days people in real life are giving themselves or their kids, weirdo names. Names like Coco Crisp and Boof Bonser (both are actual MLB players) make you wonder what the parents were smoking. And there's always that parent who wants to name their kid Jesus Christ.
