  1. Certainly has the proportions of the Yamato transformable. Good work.
  2. Don't look now... They are. There will be several tiers of the Steam Machine for different types of consumers. Plus, third party developers are already releasing machines for the SteamOS. The Xi3 Corportation is basically building small form PCs ideal for SteamOS and their computers were even introduced by Valve at the beginning of the year. http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/145054-steam-box-prototype-shown-off-by-valve-at-ces All open, can be upgraded and can be modded.
  3. Yeah, I've never seen any official artwork for this design. Likely, it was some creative, industrious background artist who figured; "Why not make this scene a little more interesting by drawing something we've not seen before?". This isn't the only never-seen Zentradi craft to get a one-scene spotlight. There was the unique cylinder-shaped Zentradi ship in DYRL that fired some type of energy ball/blast at the SDF-1 Macross that blasted a hole in the hull through which the Nousjadeul-Ger Powered Armored Suits were able to traverse to rampage through the ship's city sections.
  4. The Steam Machine, nice! We all knew a Steam console was coming. I'm not sure if they are so much looking for a "preferred" configuration so much as simply fine-tuning what Valve wants to release. Their announcement pretty clearly states that their intention is to released not one configuration but a varied menu of hardware options, complete with third-party versions customized for what each individual user wants to have in their Steam OS compatible machine. Like they say, it's not one-size-fits-all.
  5. It's the REAL possibility of mass adoption that has me most excited for this SteamOS. We were told over for 15 years that Linux was the future, but that future never happened. Sure it was always said to be great, but no one used it except for developers. And all the while I always thought to myself it would have been great, but there was never any real possibility of adoption. Humans are creatures of habit and many are just too inured by the most accessible system we have. I'm as guilty of this as anyone. But to my eyes, SteamOS is the first time I see the true possibility of widespread adoption. All my friends on Facebook and Twitter are all fired up about this and for once I share their excitement. My interest is genuine. This doesn't have to beat Windows or Mac OS. It doesn't even have to try. All SteamOS needs is to be popular enough to sustain itself and I see that as a very real possibility.
  6. Personal canon (one "n") can be anything you want; it's personal But if you're asking for an opinion, I can't think of anything objectionable about your list. Just an FYI, to my knowledge there has never been any official declaration of canon for the Macross intellectual property.
  7. davidwhangchoi Actually, you're right. My idea is likely not the way Valve would do things, even though they could and get away with it. Valve would do something else. Although I seriously doubt they would offer the games for free via SteamOS, but a significant savings that people would find irresistible. like half off or something crazy. Of course, this would be motivation for the skeptics. They've already got the fans like me
  8. davidwhangchoi Can't see that being a concern large enough to merit any consideration. One uses Linux to spite Windows. No one uses Windows to spite Linux taksraven Well, this is the first real alternative I can see having a reasonable chance of success. I'm on board and willing to give them a few chances to get it right. I want this to be good and succeed. I'm more than happy to support Valve, at least until many years down the road when Valve the hero lives long enough to become the enemy and we curse them like we now do Microsoft. Then a new company with a better idea comes along and offers us a new choice. The cycle continues Mommar That power of Steam in the marketplace is what has me most excited about this. Valve's new OS doesn't have to even beat Windows/Microsoft at all. Steam's popularity and influence practically guarantee this OS WILL be adopted and widely used. They don't need everyone to leave their inured ways and abandon Windows. SteamOS will be popular enough to more than sustain itself. Now, how FAR the potential of this new OS will go is an open question, but at least now a real, widely used and broadly compatible alternative will be realized. At least, this is what I hope
  9. October can't come fast enough
  10. It's hard to say. I agree 13 meters is more plausible for the size of the craft If we're just thinking of the vehicle in terms of what it is and other comparable craft. However, the 13 meter length doesn't make sense given the size of the High-Maneuverability Missiles themselves (based upon what we know of their official size). Sadly I've not found any books that list the size of the X-9 Ghost and the Macross Chronicle never gave any official size either, so its kinda up to each of us to guess what it would be. Like I said, I suspect the original artists realized the crazy discrepancy between what the Ghost should be and the length of the HMMs and cleverly decided to avoid giving the X-9 a length at all
  11. Thank you. I try hard to make the M3 as complete as one part-time amateur person such as myself can, lol The age of Max and Milia in Macross 7 is treated rather tongue-in-cheek by the creative staff. Kawamori himself once said something silly about how Max doesn't age like the rest of us because of his genius The two are drawn older than they appeared in the original series, but yes, they look FAR younger than they should be for 2045. As for the Max and Milia relationship, it's probably best you either watch the Macross 7 series or read spoiler reviews of the show. The MAHQ has detailed episode by episode reviews of the all the Macross shows.
  12. mikeszekely I agree. The thought of a real alternative to Windows has me ready to sign my first born over to Valve davidwhangchoi Actually, this announcement by Valve has me re-evaluating everything they've done for the last 10 years. THink about it: the demand for Half-Life 3 is astronomical. With that kind of demand, what could you do? Release Half-Life 3? Sure you could and you could make millions. But what if for once money was not the primary motivator? What else could one do with that consumer loyalty and demand? Why, release a new OS of course. But why would anyone move to a new OS? People are either Windows or Mac, what possible motivation could they have to use SteamOS...what possible reason could one give them...how would you do it.... ...Half-Life 3 as SteamOS exclusive ...Portal 3 as SteamOS exclusive ...Left 4 Dead 3 as SteamOS exclusive Mind blown!
  13. Sorry I missed this one a while back. Yeah, the size is pretty crazy isn't it? I suppose the scale could always be easily explained if there were small/short-range versions of the HMMs.
  14. Robowang The information on my website is taken from Egan Loo's incredible Macross Compendium (I reference his website at the bottom of most of the profiles on my website). Most of the information is official.
  15. The VE-1 ELINT Seeker is an electronic warfare version of the VF-1 Valkyrie that appeared in the 1984 film The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?. My website has a profile on the craft that can be found here: http://www.macross2.net/m3/macrossdyrl/ve-1-elintseeker-valkyrie.htm Hope that helps
  16. While this announcement may be equal parts tech news and gaming news, the widely used Steam gaming distribution service by Valve Software is now going to have it's own operating system too. SteamOS was announced today and while it looks like it's aimed at consoles (and the Steam Box itself) it appears any PC can run the SteamOS. This is huge! http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/valve-has-its-own-operating-system-now-in-steamos/1100-4746/ Streaming games from your other devices...wow! My mind is officially blown!
  17. Dear gawd, is there no end to the tragic suffering of Jesse Pinkman? Looks like Heisenberg is all Walt has left. Another sad end. Well, however it turns out, it's going to be epic. M60 FTW!
  18. Surfing through DeviantArt I found two amazing images for smartphone wallpapers. The two images are near perfect designs for the layout of a four-icon S3. A little bit of rearrangement and some of the icons even merge with the subject's pose within image
  19. I haven't watched broadcast/cable television in over 15 years. The internet is your friend I'd recommend mostly HBO shows and a few others. After avoiding TV during my college years, I've often said HBO is THE reason I returned to TV. IMO, the HBO series were the precursor for the current state of TV and why critics label the 2000s the "New Golden Age" of television. I give my highest recommendation to: Rome (2 Seasons; 22 Episodes) The Wire (5 Seasons; 60 Episodes) Game of Thrones (3 Seasons, 30 Episodes) I also think well of: The Sopranos (6 Seasons; 86 Episodes) Deadwood (3 Seasons, 36 Episodes) Boardwalk Empire (4 Seasons; 37 Episodes) Of the non-HBO series, I'd recommend the following: Breaking Bad is anyone in this thread NOT watching? (5 Seasons; 60 Episodes, An AMC Series) Justified (4 Seasons; 52 Episodes, An FX Series) Louie (3 Seasons; 39 Episodes, An FX Series) House of Cards (1 Season; 13 Episodes, A Netflix Series) Orange is the New Black (1 Season; 13 Episodes, A Netflix Series) Dead Like Me (2 Seasons; 29 Episodes, A Showtime Series) Just my opinion of course, but I feel there is almost NOTHING worth watching on broadcast television. The vast majority of the best writing, directing and producing talent has long since fled broadcast (and to a lesser degree, the Hollywood film studios) and setup shop at specialty cable. If you're curious to try other shows I've not mentioned, as a general rule I'd suggest prioritizing cable shows. Odds are you'll have a much better, more rewarding time
  20. I think that after this episode the flash forwards are starting to make more sense now. Walt could be on a straight up revenge mission against Todd and Uncle Jack...or Walt finds out Jesse is still alive and tries to mount a rescue (a desperate last attempt at redemption?). Whatever the outcome, the resigned, morose manner in which Cranston played Walter during those flash forward sequences leads me to believe he doesn't plan on any outcome that doesn't involve his own death. Maybe that's what the ricin is for. Anyway, a great gripping episode of Breaking Bad and possibly one of it's best. But I agree with Duke Togo; if you think this is the best TV has to offer, you're snoozing your way through the second golden age.
  21. I have long ago tried scaling the X-9 Ghost based upon line art and it has always presented a very unique problem due in large part to it's sizable storage bay of 29 High-Maneuverability Missiles (HMM). The HMMs have never been designated with an official size, but they do appear mounted on the hull of the Drone FIghter from Macross Plus. As shown in the official line art, the Drone Fighter was sized by the original artist at 10-12 meters in length. With the HMM roughly 1/3 the length of the Drone Fighter itself, each HMM would range in length from roughly 2.5 to 3 meters long and about 0.25 meters in diameter. Now with an estimated size for the HMM, we can then scale the X-9 Ghost based on the proportional size of it's ventral missile bay. To accommodate HMMs as sized in the first part of my analysis, the ventral missile bay of the X-9 Ghost must be at least 3 to 3.5 meters deep and at least 3 meters in length to accomodate 10 HMMs mounted in a row (as shown in the X-9 Ghost line art of the missile bay). Now we have two ways of scaling the X-9 Ghost using this information: Method A: The 3 meter length of the ventral missile bay. If the bay is 3 meters long, then we simply scale the rest of the X-9 Ghost according to the length of the bay, ending with an overall X-9 Ghost of 13 meters in length. Method B: The 2.5 - 3 meter length of a HMM. Unfortunately, if the ventral missile bay is 3-3.5 meters deep and 3 meters long, it's too "TALL" for a 13-meter long X-9 Ghost. Further, the line art of the ventral missile bay confirms the interior of the bay does not extend to the "ROOF" of the X-9 Ghost. There is the depiction of much more internal volume above the ventral missile bay. If we assume the ventral missle bay is roughly half the depth of the X-9 Ghost, then we're looking at an X-9 6-7 meters tall. This translates to a X-9 Ghost fighter of 25-30 meters in length. So neither number works all that well. Because the results are rather unsatisfying, I just gave up. This may explain why the original creators never bothered to assign an official length to the X-9 Ghost As an aside, the very similarly designed QF-4000 (AIF-7S) Ghost Fighter from Macross Frontier appears a direct design lineage from the X-9 Ghost. The two craft appear identical in almost every way. The QF-4000 is scaled at a mere 9.85 meters long. Official trivia describes the QF-4000 built with internal missile bays, but they are all micro-missiles. This would allow the craft to be much smaller than the X-9 Ghost.
  22. I really like that Harley Quinn wallpaper. Ideal layout for a phone.
  23. Both This Is The End and The World's End are excellent summer comedies and easily some of the best of the last few years. But I will say this; I had high expectations for The World's End and while I loved the film (being especially appreciative of the more dramatic tone), it fell just short of the high benchmark set by Hot Fuzz. Conversely, I had no expectations for This Is The End but it surprised me at almost every turn and is now easily one of my favorite comedies of all time. Funny how that turned out.
  24. Wow, sometimes I don't even remember the content of my own website. The profile I wrote for the Meltran Medium Scale Gunboat "Chlore Fleet Command Ship" identifies Chlore's subordinate by the name Tranquil and as an adviser
