  1. Why does everyone keep calling on the dead spirit of Babylon 5... it lasted 5 seasons, so what? It's round about the ONLY Sci fi TV show other than Star Trek that didn't get cancelled by it's third season... wait, other than the new Star Treks as the original did get cancelled. And what's with the "leaves fans wanting more" thing? EVERY show that goes off the air leaves it's fans wanting more. I know people that are still pissed COP ROCK got the shaft. A lot of shows "write themselves out" rather than get cancelled all together. Look at Space: Above and Beyond. When their writers and producers found out their show was getting the axe they slaughtered everyone off in a "if you're pulling the plug then we'll see to it we never come back" fashion. Babylon 5 is not unique... so then... why did Babylon 5 supposedly "succeed"? Because it's creators where smart enough to know when they're show was not going to amount to anything more than a trek clone with a sparse fanbase they pulled the plug and chose to "write the show out" before their thin non-network backing ran out on them. What has Babylon 5 done lately? A bunch of sad made for TV movies that aired all of once (if at all) on Sci-Fi network. Pretty pitiful for such a "popular" series... If you want to talk "non-trek sci-fit TV" longevity, Babylon 5 is the weakest of examples. What about Stargate SG1? It's in it's fifth season now and still supposedly going strong. SG1 was going to get the axe but someone picked up the reigns and saw to it that the show soldiered on... SG1 runs on what, one cable channel now and is in syndication on two major networks afterhours? At it's height Babylon 5 was on UHF stations in select markets... and the last two seasons got dropped from a lot of those stations that carried it so they could run Hockey and Baseball games instead. Sci Fi on TV is weak at best and it's only chances for market share come in syndication, like Star Trek found out. Here in the midwest, TNG put up better numbers running in late night syndication than it ever did first run on the network. If syndication had not exsisted the original Star Trek would have died and been buried long ago, along with Gilligan's Island, I Dream of Jeanie and Lost in Space. Turn on the gas, let Trek slip under and then put the drano in the IV and let nature take it's course. <_< I'm backing out of this thread because I am now feeling real anger towards Trek and that is unhealthy.
  2. Action JsARCLIGHT 2 will come with the Camaro accessory and road rage flip-off action. Back on subject, If those hotties in costumes are common at west coast cons it looks like I'll have to look into some plane tickets...
  3. The last convention I went to I dressed up as Action JsARCLIGHT, clad in silk and cotton with Kung-fu tie and Swift Italian boot-kicking action. If you pulled my string you'd hear me say things like "how many trekkies are here this year?", "which way to the bar" and "why do I keep going to these things..." When kids ask you "who are you supposed to be?" I answer "you in fifteen years if you're lucky..."
  4. I remember a time when the "commando" Angela fetched over $75 carded... now that was funny to me.
  5. 1/48. oh and BTW, you got enough polls going there chief?
  6. Zero. The only thing keeping me watching that OAV are the valkyries... it's sad to say but my lack of interest in it is waining... some toys might bring me back into the fold, though... cough cough... hint hint...
  7. GBP Armor, worry about the rest after that. ... oh and Thunder Hammers is a pipe dream, we should all just let it go already...
  8. Max is right. This is another case of "the world must change" and everyone except the people who need to change it see it that way. Are we sure that the RIAA isn't somehow affiliated with Phillip Morris?
  9. I have no reaction to this. Being a person who never did any music sharing I have no ill will towards the swappers... but at the same time I understand the plight of the music industry. But the draconian tactics they are engaging in now are just stupid. They need to address the reason why people swap music online: cost and availability. CD prices need to come down, big time... and at the same time MP3 swapping should be encouraged and supported, provided there is an infrastructure that allows the music people to make some money off of it. This is not a case of "personal freedoms" being infringed upon like some folks want to make it out to be, this is a case of the bloated music industry not catching on to the trends and capitalizing on them... thus they are losing money and their only recourse seems to be to lash out. This can go nowhere but into the trenches for a long battle that will cost the music industry more money than they lost to those people's copying in the end...
  10. You don't know me very well, I'm the resident cynic and overall negative nelly. I find it's easier to not expect things and be suprised when they are released than to constantly build up my expectations only to have them dashed... Ya hear that Yamato! SHOCK ME with a GBP. Proove me wrong.
  11. With any luck the Simpsons will go the way of Sienfeld, Cheers and others and leave on a high note. It's much better for a show to graciously bow out in the spotlight than be dragged kicking and screaming from it's dressing room and hurled into the street like most shows have to endure... As for Star Trek, I repeat my plea: kill it. Take it out back behind the shed so the kids don't hear the shotgun.
  12. I'm still holding out hope that the 1/60 line will be "complete" with Destroids, Zentradi and Meltrandi units and other shenanigans before it dies out. Better yet, I want some 1/48 scale Destroids...
  13. I'm almost positive the Hikaru TV VF-1J is coming with FAST packs... not the GBP. I am also having that familiar feeling that we are going to be boned on the GBP... as in zip, nada, ain't gonna happen. If it was going to happen it would have happened in some scale by now... Either that or this 1/48 FAST pack kit release is a water tester for a possible GBP armor set... who knows...
  14. No... my name is Azrael Abyss the master of sorrow! wwwoooooooooooooooooooo! Shut up Todd. (SMACK)
  15. I have a question here: I was under the impression that "Underworld" was not a Sony product, but one from a Brittish/German/European movie company that licensed the movie to Sony for international distribution? Either way I and the guys at the office are calling it "Interview with the Matrix". If it did in fact swipe it's premise and plot from White Wolf then they sure as hell stole everything else from the Matrix and Blade.
  16. My point was that you cannot add things to a show and expect to change it for the better. Star Trek is what it is: Bonanza in space. A bunch of uptight 19th century brittish navy wannabes dragging out the same boring ass plot for ten seasons and five different shows. Adding "fighters" and "carriers" and "new different things" will only do more to alienate the core audience and burn the show out faster. EVERY TV show in history runs it's course, no matter how popular... why aren't we seeing Night Court the Next Litigation, ALF Beyond Thunderdome or Doctor Quinn: Deep West 9? Because people in power know when to kill something... Star Trek needs to die.
  17. Soooooooo basically what I am hearing is that everyone wants Star Trek to be more like all the other sci-fi shows that got cancelled? I still say kill the bitch and bury it upside down so it doesn't come back as a zombie five years from now. That'll learn 'em.
  18. All I want is a Hikaru VF-1J and a Cannon Fodder Brown VF-1A and they can stop making the VF-1 series. All these variations need to be made in the 1/60 scale line as IMHO the 1/60 line is the "entire macross" line and the 1/48 is the "supaa corrector's glade" line of which only certain select units are warranted. Then again Yamato has seemingly been giving the fans what they want lately so perhaps anything can happen...
  19. Then you have reached the perfect point in collecting... when you have room to get more! I'm thinking that only 50% of the junk I'm going to list will sell so most of it will end up either getting relisted or going into the trash. I have no quams about "making money" off this stuff as the good percentage of it was just taking up space here and I didn't care if I kept it or it got thrown away... you know the old garage sale addage: one man's garbage is another man's treasuse.
  20. The secret to maintaining a hobby: sell the stuff you don't care too much for anymore. I'm getting ready to pelt eBay with about a hundred auctions for the truckload of crap I cleaned out of my apartment this week. It's all sitting in boxes in my basement and some of it has me also wondering "why the HELL did I buy this?"... Oh well, G.I.G.O. a-go go!
  21. You scored no doubt. I'm not so sure prices have dropped that much... more like people are no longer super interested in them. Back in the day when Macross toys were as rare as a ten leaf clover everything was expensive. Nowadays there's enough new toys on the market to keep the average consumer in debt until the next ice age. My guess is people are so infatuated with the new toys that the oldies are not getting much of a look in any more. Just take a look at other recent eBay prices for mint in box macross and robotech items, they are all about $20 to $50 below what they where a year or so ago. Too many new toys spreads the loot thin...
  22. Yes, the Dark Legioss only has three hands. The reason this is is because it has those "Claw Thingies" rather than humanoid hands. It comes with two claw hands and one "closed claw" with a notch on it for use with the Sychro cannon... but the open claws work just fine with the cannon also. I guess they ran out of ideas for hand poses for claws...
  23. I want my normal Hikaru VF-1J, screw the low vis. Yes the low vis is neat and all but it's a one trick pony people... bring on the GBP already dammit. <_
  24. Are you sure that isn't a picture of one of my clients chasing me after I told him we're over budget? Nice work.
  25. I like the original Macross and DYRL... everything else has gotten more and more goofy the further the timeline progresses. I would like to see more "backstory" or "side story" to the ones we already know. The same story told from a different angle with new characters gives you better insights into the original shows. Think how neat it would be to be introduced to your favorite characters like Roy, Max and Hikaru through the eyes of green recruits who fly alongside them... perhaps the recruits saw Roy as a hard drinking hardass or an unapproachable stuck up person. We never knew because we only saw him through the eyes of Hikaru as the caring but debauched "Sempai". Oh BTW Macross Zero is not what I had in mind... M0 is pretty much a rewritten preamble to a story we already knew...
