Can I use white primer to go from red to white?

Can I simply use white primer to change the red plastic color of Gunpla to white? Or should I start with gray primer and then cover that with white paint?

I'm wondering if it would be easier if I use white primer.

Advice appreciated.

I did it on my 1/72 VF-25G and not encountered any problem.

I've managed to paint the knees, hip intakes and backlegs using Tamiya Surface Primer (White), then two clear coats:

yes, depends on the primer. I use citadel skull white as my main primer and used it over all kinds of bandai colored plastics. I'm sure any decent white primer would give the same results.

Thank you to both for the advice and comments. I was worried that white primer wasn't "strong enough" to cover red or blue plastic.

White primer should be fine. I personally use grey only for my own reasons. to me, if color bleeds through on the white primer, I have a tendency to overpaint on my next coats to over compensate. The grey, in my opinion, covers slightly better, and also give me a better look at any fixes I may need to do. Nevertheless, if you have white primer, use what you got. It should be just fine.
