Robotech Novels (Macross Saga)

Granted it's not 'pure' Macross, but whenever I hit the road on vacation I bring my copy of the Robotech novels with me. I find they're a good read. Does anyone else read these when they aren't able to watch their Macross DVDs?

Moreover, the real reason why I created this thread: Is there a 'pure' Macross equivalent to these "Jack McKinney" Del Rey novels? Or is this the closest thing there is to a 'pure' Macross novel in the English language? (By 'pure' I mean no Robotech.)

Of course they're in Japanese, but if you get these books http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/books/series_comics.htm, you are reliving the TV in book form.

I guess I should have made that "English equivalent" rather than just "equivalent." I can't read Japanese (unless it's in roman letters and I have a means of translating it.) ='(

Aside from those film comics based on the original series, there's also the Macross 7 Trash Manga http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/transl...ations_menu.htm

There's also a couple of short stories that fill in some of the gaps in the SDF:M story. They are in Japanese, and found in Macross Perfect Memory. http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/books/series_pm.htm

There is a 3 book set novelization of the TV series and a novelization of the DYRL movie (I'm pretty sure that's what it is). And then there's also a novelization of Macross II, Macross 7 Dynamite, etc. None of these are listed under the book section of MW. Try searching Amazon Japan, many of these books are long out of print but a few are still available.

There's always fanfiction...

You could always look to the play-by-post Macross roleplaying sites. It may ramble at times, it may be divergent from the canon storylines, but it is fan attempts at keeping whatever it is that makes them interested in Macross alive and continuing.

I just tried navigating through through amazon.co.jp. I typed in Macross and only 3 pages of stuff came up and it all looked like video games and video. The text was all in Japanese of course so I couldn't navigate around much. :/ Would these books be in English anyway? If not they're no good to me. Thanks for the reply though, I appreciate it!

Good fanfiction is an oxymoron.

For the most part, I would agree with you. The few stories I have found on the Net weren't that great.

But I have written some myself (in my well-worn notebook) set in the U.N. Wars era. Friends/relatives, that have read it, think it's pretty good stuff. I don't critique my own stories, since it's mainly for personal enjoyment.

But the "reviews" (for want of a better term) have encouraged me to start yet another story. It's titled "Brother Against Brother".
