(I never got around to the heat shield and gunpod) One thing I noticed looking through pictures of MG1s and 2s is how every one I looked at online was a bit different than the others. I guess this would be a customizers flare or something - making your custom exactly yours and like nobody elses. Soooo, here I end up with my preferred MG1 with a VF1J head, and you'll also notice (once I get all my pictures up, I'm on dial up, may wait until tomorrow) I made the heat shield for the MG2 clear, minus the little Minmay cartoon on it. It ends up looking really cool. Also, the overall scheme is pretty light, mainly because the decals I got were really light colored. But enough talk, I'll start uploading pictures here. Before you laugh, remember! - before I did these the only thing I did was repaint a VF1S head, and convert a hikaru 1S into a Max 1S. So yes, I kind of suck.

One more thing - I made this and my MG1 by removing the paint from the toy - I did not paint the whole valk white. I removed the paint using Chameleon paint remover, and it worked like a charm. I had to color-match the right "white" for the strike armor by eyeballing it. Turned out matching well though.

Good job.

Transformable MG1 and 2. WoW!

If my attempt at an 1/72 MG2 build turn out crap, maybe I will buy a 1/48 Yamato and do what you did.

I remember that you use rattle can for the MG1, are you still using those for the MG2?

The transparent headshield looks great.

gosh sorry it's taken so long to even read these. Thanks for the compliments. And no, I didn't use a rattle can on the MG1. Both of these customs were done with complete paint removal of the 1/48 parts, and then color matching the yamato "white" (grey). I've switched the pilot of the MG2 to the Hikaru pilot from the DRYL VF1S (not modified), instead of a handpainted hikaru 1J. but I'm keeping the 1J pilot for the MG1, it actually looks really cool overall. The clear heatshield really is a trip to look at when you're holding the toy. You don't really notice how see-through it is unless you look at it from the side and really close.

And also --- just take your time and get advice from everyone you can when doing up your MG2 and it'll turn out great, probably definitely better than mine. ;)

You are a lucky guy Brian. I am dreaming to have a 1/48 transformable MG2.

Once again your work turn out great, if I need to do any paint removal, I will definately try to get a few tips from you. :)

Thank you for the encouragement.

I am still waiting for the MG2 decal. :( Anasazi is probably very busy, so it will be a while before I start my MG2 project.

I am currently struggling with my sv-51 build. It is my first real model, so I am learning as I go along. Progress is very slow, I am too busy preparing for the working trip to Japan next week.

Any luck with the visor removal ?

cheers

No visor removal luck, I've given up. (But removing a 1A visor is a cynch!) As for getting decals, yeah, I had to wait I think 2 months to get decals from Anasazi. He's a busy guy! Good luck with your sv-51!!! And I look forward to seeing your 1/48 MG2 when it's finally done! ;)
