  5. Very nice step by step, ending up in very nicely painted figures. ChaosWarrior
  6. It looks great! Nice paint job and weathering too. ChaosWarrior
  7. Yes, that certainly looks interesting. ChaosWarrior
  8. My advice, never by Academy It's never fun when you're on the verge of throwing things away. The closest that I have right now is the crappy Amt X-wing, which is a skill 2 snap-fast. In my opinion it requires a little more skill than that to build. Not that I don't have the skill, but how disappointing for a beginner to start with such a lousy kit. I think I prefer Bandai when it comes to easy kits ChaosWarrior
  9. My attempt at doing a F-14D cockpit. [attachmentid=41097][attachmentid=41098] I need to do some touch ups before I mount it in the fuselage and add seats and pilot. Sadly enough there's no figure to the rear seat. ChaosWarrior
  10. I bought a few of these Arii kits and they're rather easy to build, but I think somethings like the hands are way to big and or out of proportion. I have also built two of Bandais 1/144 kits (VF-17 and VF-19) and they're really easy to build and has much better fit than the Arii kits, and in my opinion have better proportions. I also have a Yellow Sub VF-11B resin kit, that looks very nice, but that have to wait until I have the appropriate skills ChaosWarrior
  11. Among all things I'm working with is this little one. [attachmentid=40170][attachmentid=40171] I'm no specialist at scratch-building, but I added a piece of cardboard in the wheel wells and basic seat and instrument panel made from a piece of sprue. ChaosWarrior
  12. Nice pics, but no, they didn't say a word! ChaosWarrior
  13. Looks great! Nice pics! ChaosWarrior
  14. Well, it seems like you got most answer already, but since I asked about colors for another of ARIIs 1/100 kits here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=21191 I've learned a few things. First all colors, as Chad said, referred to is Gunze Sangyo and if you look closely on the instructions there are lines pointing to some parts and there the letter H with an encircled number indicating the matching GS color for that part. Also Hasegawas instructions provided on this site is very useful. Isn't the Hikaru rather small, like 1/24 (mine is)? I think most color brands have skin tones that will be useful as a base color. 15. Maybe this could be of some use: http://ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/colorcharts_2.asp There are lots of color conversion and reference charts. I've used these charts when translating colors from other brands to Humbrol. ChaosWarrior
  16. Very nice! Looking forward to seeing it painted too. ChaosWarrior
  17. Thanks for the list! I've noticed that finding matching colors isn't always that easy. After using a few conversion tables, I have painted almost all orange parts in a mix of the same colors you have suggested ie Hu69 and Hu18 in about the same proportions suggested on the Hase instructions. The same proportions was used on the white Hu22 and radome tan Hu148. So far I think it looks good. I will provide some pics a soon as I'm able to take a good shoot. The only color I didn't find a suitable match for was RLM75 grey violet for the gun. I'll have to try and mix a simular color. ChaosWarrior
  18. Cheating or not, you still knew where to look It would be nice to see your VF-1D when it's done. ChaosWarrior
  19. And 19" isn't big enough? (just noticed some want's it even bigger ) Anyway, I think these are interesting projects, and I will follow the progress with great interest, even if I don't think I'll ever be able to buy such a kit. ChaosWarrior
  20. Thanks! Think what you can find, if you know where to look Now that I got it confirmed that it's Gunze colors, then things gets a bit easier. If I haven't misunderstod anything, this should be the lacquer chart: http://ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff...mrcolor_map.htm They also provide color conversion charts, and lots of other stuff. Painting will commence asap. ChaosWarrior
  21. Nice pics neptunesurvey. Accidently there doesn't seem to be any match for that color in the conversion charts for Humbrol that I know of. Thanks sketchley, but I've already got that information. That's why I made the remark about Gunze colors. Isn't it Gunze color numbers in the two leftmost colums? ChaosWarrior
  22. Thank you all for the help! I think it will be very useful. I guess the colors in the Hase instruction is Gunze. ChaosWarrior
  23. Well, I bought a few old ARII kits a while ago, and now I decided to have a go at one of the gerwalks. There are only three colors suggested, but I'm not sure if I'm guessing right. On the picture with the painted parts it looks like metall, beige and red/orange, but more exact color specifications in any wellknown brand will be useful. Is the cockpit and seats supposed to be black? If the cockpit is supposed to look like a modern jet then perhaps the seats should be olive. I'm almost done putting together the kit and painting is nearly the only thing left. ChaosWarrior
  24. Awesome! ChaosWarrior
  25. Very nice, the weathering looks very good. ChaosWarrior
