What the heck was Ariel?

Hey, I just found a page of pictures from a show or comic called Ariel. I'm trying to figure out what it was about. None of the images on that web page look related, and they don't even look like the same person drew them.

Anybody remember this series? What was it about?

I remember the OVA for Ariel, but never watched it. All I remember is that it three girls that piloted a giant robot named Ariel that looked like a woman.

Going by the OVAs, only his youngest granddaughter want to pilot ARIEL, while the two older ones need a lot of prodding. The mangas maybe funny, but whoever directed the OVAs turn it into a drama with bits of mecha action and comedy tacked on.
