  1. Who? Meister? I got the exact opposite impression. While there's a coupole more steps, I found the actual leg transformation to be better and less of a hassle than Smokescreen and Silverstreek.
  2. I enjoyed it sober. Definitely a mind bender though.
  3. Rarely is it pointed out, though I believe at least one perceptive Macrossworlder has pointed it out already, that running out in a battlefield singing songs at those fighting to make them stop, has about as much effect in Macross 7 as it would if someone in the real world ran over to Iraq with a guitare. Even over the course of the series, it isn't the music, but the ideals that have the lasting impact on the characters. Only those who are receptive to those ideals don't see Basara as a wacko in the series, and even right up to the end there are those who don't grok that way of thinking. I've seen this mirrored in viewers' reactions to the series as well, wich is one of the reasons I laud the character developement in the series, that they didn't have all of the characters easily swayed, and many of those that were, only after a significant amount of time, and after coming to an understanding of the ideals that motivated Basara's outlandish actions. I'm not trying to sway Macross 7 haters over to the other side, I'm simply pointing out that the concept that many people immeadiately identify as rediculous isn't nearly so much as they say, such as ewilen pointed out. I would agree with the statement that in Macross 7 there's a lot to the presentation that many would see as childish, but it's theme, message, and overall story aren't the problem. I would still love to see a DYRL? style take on M7, though I'm happy with Dynamite 7, wich dropped a lot of the presentation problems I personally didn't like.
  4. It didn't? That's a terrible crime. It was one of the best films of it' kind to come out in the past several years. But, like a friend of mine said a dew nights ago when we were talking about how quality movies/tv series/just about anything tends to fail or fall way short, while mediocre and really bad stuff tends to do much better, "Americans are ruining America."
  5. Wha? These aren't JUST carriers? Oh this I've GOT to see..... Check this site out, then: Steel Falcon RPG page. Sure, it's an RPG page, so you can ignore all the little stat blocks, but it also serves as a decent enough description of the ships and their capabilities, in all their hand-having, gun-pod wielding glory *shudder*. Awsome, but even better when you see the transformation sequence in the show. One of the few bits of pretty animation in M7.
  6. You misunderstood. I did not say that the others are robot in the shell, I simply stared that Tracks is no more a "robot in a shell" than the others. Of course, it all depends on what you consider a "robot in a shell" to be. If you mean a certain amount of the car must be integrated into his robot form, then Tracks has less of that than the others as the bottom of the car becomes his front instead of the top or front as with everyone else. Still, if you mean 'random car bits just hanging off of him" then Tracks has no more of that than anyone else.
  7. Actually, holding Tracks right here, he's my favourite, overall, looking figure. Also, despite the complaints, he's really no more "shell" like than any of the other Binaltech/Alternators. The only pieces really "hanging off" him are the doors. No one complained about that on Sideswipe, or the "wings" of every other BT/Alt so far. The roof on his back? Well, that's every single Alternator besides Hound and Sideswipe, since those two figures have no roof. The front portion of the car becomes the back of his legs. There you have it, folks. Track's so-called "robot in a shell" complaint completely unfounded.
  8. You mean the Macross class??? just wait, when it transforms it has HANDS!!!! it sucks!! You heard him, Winter, he has a different opinion, so yours must be wrong. This is exactly the sort of "argument" I meant by my last post.
  9. Immeadiately after watching Evangelion, you should go and watch 'Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventures'.
  10. I disagree with Cory's complaints, especially after picking up Meister and Tracks, but the man has a right to complain if he feels the need to. No good change ever came from sitting down and shutting up. But yeah, I lucked out. My local Walmart and Toys 'R Us usually doesn't get the newest Alternators until they've been out for several months. I'd just picked up Hound and Dead End like a week ago, so I was not expecting to see anything more for ages. I walked down there with the girlfriend, so she could pick up some stuf, and while she was looking around, I decided to wander over to the toy section for the helluvit and take a peek. Low nd behold, they had both Tracks and Meister, in snazzy new red packaging, and they were both the characters in their G1 colours. I'm guessing the G1-homage packaging is due to these particular colour schemes, and that red Meister and yellow Tracks come in the standard blue boxes, but there were none at the store so I couldn't compare. Still, these are the colours I wanted. I've little to no interest in picking up the others now that I have these. I used to keep Jazz standing next to Prime all the time, so I've got Meister up next to my 20th Anniversary Prime now. Both Meister and Tracks are great, and in many ways my two new favourite Alternators. Meister's transformation sequence had more differences from Silverstreek/Smokescreen's than I'd expected and Tracks is something completely new. I do have some minor quibbles though. On both toys there are parts that seem cheaper than previous alternators. Especially their guns. Meister's isn't so bad, but Tracks' is just plain cheap looking. Also, Tracks' head doesn't look nearly as well sculpted or painted as any of the previous toys. The details seem rounded and muddy, and the paint, sloppy. Meister, on the other hand, has probably the second best headsculpt after Silverstreek. I'm not talking the design, I'm talking the amount of, and sharpness of the detail. A strange thing I noticed, Meister on the box was transformed incorrectly. The photos they had made it look like he had no mid torso, just the hood of the car, and empty space, and then his crotch jutting forward.
  11. jesting or not, that's the most ridiculous excuse i've read here to date. When it comes to Macross 7 threads, it's pretty much a given somebody will use that. Other posts typical of these topics, in no particular order... - you're not smart enough to understand M7 - you hated M7 'cuz you're an evil warmonger - Gundam has newtypes, therefore spiritia is ok - J-pop is awesome, and you're stupid if you hate it - Basara is the best character in the history of fiction! To be fair, the arguments of the more vocal Macross 7 naysayers are equally predictable, and hold about as much water.
  12. Not entirely correct. Advance Wars, Battle Network, Pokemon, Golden Sun, the GBA Astroboy game are all unique to the Gameboy systems. Also, the Cube version of Four Swords is actually a step down from the fun of playing GBA Four Swords. Not to mention the PS2 Astroboy being something of a flop, while the GBA game is one of the more memorable titles of the year. It could also be argued that the 3D Castlevania game doesn't quite stand up to a number of the GBA Castlevania games, I doubt anyone would clame Sonic Adventure 2 was better than the GBA games, and the console Mega Man games remain stale and dated in the face of much better sequels on the GBA like Mega Man Zero. I'm not trying to convince you to buy a GBA or a DS, if you're not likely to play a portable system, there's no real point in you picking one up, but to say that all the games are ports or rehashes that don't stack up to what's on the consoles is utterly false. I've found more games that impress me on the GBA than I have on the XBox. PS2, and possibly even the Gamecube combined.
  13. well it goes: SDF, DYRL, M7, M+, M0 so...... ONE out of five serise you don't like. how is that the Startrek syndrom? Especially when there are plenty of die-hard fans of the show you happen not to like. Shall we go round up the die-hard fans for Star Trek V, or Insurrection?
  14. Well, if you want to talk collaborations, it's been going on for ages, with shows like Transformers, G.I. Joe, Mighty Orbots, Thundercats, Last Unicorn all being animated in Japan, but created in the U.S. (Yes, I realize Transformers is based on originally Japanese toys, but from two unrelated toylines that Hasbro merged together into one line and wanted a single cartoon out there to market them.) Since Japanese animators get paid so little (average is about $500 USD, and this is to live in Tokyo, one of the most expensive cities in the world), they've always done animation on the cheap, so U.S. studios would outsource to them as well as Korea and Mexico. Still, I wonder what this specific collaboration means? It doesn't really say. Is this a plan to pool resources to encourange anime production in Japan, so they can distribute those shows here (wich is something they've been doing individually already for years)? Or do they specifically intend to have shows created for the mainstream American audience? Will they use Japanese animators? Will they open their own studios?
  15. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust was financied in part by it's American distributer, wich is why it was animated to an english voice cast and the DVD does not have a Japanese audio track. However, I have not heard anything about the anime market in Japan shrinking. I have heard that many over there fear the amount of anime being produced is exceeding the demand. Especially with all of the animation outsourcing to other countries (wich is more and more prevelant than ever before), their is a lot of talk of the anime bubble bursting over there. I would not be surprised to learn that this team up between distributers is a preemptive action planning for that very scenario.
  16. I was four when ANH was originally released. And I saw it in the theaters. And I distinctly remember the Red Baron dropping an anvil on Darth Vader's TIE Fighter from a biplane. I kid you not. It was my first (flawed) recollection of seeing a movie in my life. I can still picture it. H When I was really, really young I saw this horror movie that took place on an airplane, and somehow I got it mixed up in my head with the movie Airplane. So whenever Airplane came on, I would leave the room, thinking it was this movie filled with death and gore.
  17. By that logic you must not have picked up a videogame console since the first Playstation.
  18. For what it's worth, I'm fairly certain those lines were there long before the Special Editions. Though I don't know if I remember them from the VHS copies of the movies I had bought (before the final release of the unedited versions), or from the versions I'd taped off of HBO and Showtime.
  19. Actually a growing amount of anime is made for the US these days, with US Anime distributers funding projects in Japan specifically so they can distribute them in the US. Wacky, huh?
  20. First I've heard that tidbit. Can anyone confirm this and/or provide a source? Kawamori has been saying that he has no intention of continuing the Hikaru/Lisa/Minmay story for quite a while, seems doubtful to me. Yeah, I'm with ewilen and yellowlightman. That comment about Hikaru and Misa goes against everything we've heard as Kawamori's official stance on the topic for ages now. It really needs a source to back it up.
  21. Not sure if one has been released for the US yet, but the Japanese price tag will be the equivalent of $350. Hah, HAH! No. The U.S. price for the system is $150. He was talking about the PSP, wich is definenty going to be more $150 USD. EB has been taking pre-orders for the PSP at $299.99 USD. However, there's also this article: http://www.ferrago.com/story/2730 Seems to indicate a Japanese and European price point nearer to $450 for the PSP. My comment about a $150 price tag was me thinking we were talking about the Nintendo DS. Apologies. I've been running on entirely too little sleep lately. As for whether or not I'll be picking up a DS? Most likely. I tend to play far more portable games than console or PC games. When I am at home, I tend to spend all my free time working on a ton of projects that leave me little time for more than a few minutes of DOOM3 or Crimson Skies now and then. I probably won't pick up a DS for some time, though. I'm just fine with my GBA SP for the time being, got plenty of games I really want to play yet. This will also give both the PSP and the DS adequate time to hit the market and show what they're capable of. I am rarely let down by Nintendo, and I'm rarely happy with Sony's offerings, but I go where the games are. If the PSP comes out and wows me enough, I'll pick it up over a DS in a heartbeat. Even though everything I've seen on both systems leads me to believe the DS will be better suited to me, you never really can tell until the systems and games are out there.
  22. Not sure if one has been released for the US yet, but the Japanese price tag will be the equivalent of $350. Hah, HAH! No. The U.S. price for the system is $150.
  23. Looks like this has already become a Mac7 bash/love thread, not like anyone could really expect much else. Unlike the Trek movies, where it's simply Paramount churning out crap to make the bucks, we don't get "yet another Macross" every year or so. It's a long wait between them, and every Macross tends to take a different approach to the basic themes originally put forth in SDF Macross. Because of the differences in tone, it's not surprising that some people prefere one Macross over another, and some outright hate some Macross, while loving others. I know people that dislike Macross Plus, but love Macross Zero, and visa-versa. There's people that strongly relate to the almost Herlock-esque themes of individuality and human spirit that are so strongly stated in Macross 7, while others are put off by the garish creature and Sound Force designs, and Basara's bull headed personality. I think the only Macross that suffers greatly in creative quality would be Macross II, and even with that there are staunch supporters who would beg to differ with my opinion. I've got my reasons, they've got theirs. I must admit that I wouldn't mind some more Macross shows that were closer in feel to DYRL? than we've had since, but I also enjoy the diversity that each new Macross has brought to the table since. No one can honestly say that if you've seen one Macross, you've seen them all, wich is a major complaint many have with "that other mecha show".
  24. Happy day, my local Walmart finally got Hound and Dead End! I nabbed both immeadiately. They had two Hounds, and one Dead End. They also had one Silverstreek, wich is the first I've seen there since picking up mine like a few months ago. Lately, seems like nothing but Sideswipe on the shelves.
  25. How long are those 10 missions, though? I've seen Warhammer 40K games that lasted several days, if we're talking those kinda missions, then I don't see a problem.
