  1. I sold all my other 1/48s except for a custom airbrushed 1J with GBP armor. Ive decided I'll only keep 1/48s that are unique, and then get all the regular release 1/60s... which brings me to my latest customs:

It seems simple enough, but I had to paint the 1J head with semi-gloss black and gold to match the finish on the 25th Anniversary Valk, and then paint the 1S head in more flat shades of grey. I also painted the visor of the 1J with translucent green.

I'm keeping the stealth 1S, but will probably sell the custom 25th 1J complete with box and all accessories.

  2. I may be interested in the extra missile parts.

Can you give us a step by step for this custom?

very easy custom. If you notice the seam near the end of the missile side, that whole end can be popped out. You may have to use a scalpel to carefully cut it a bit deeper as it is glued in. Once you pry the old missile part out, i cut some of it off and put it back in so it didn't leave a huge gaping hole. I made it so the new missile opening was actually a flush, flat surface, just slightly in from the edges of the opening. I then printed up (on sticker paper) a missile image I created on Corel Paint, sized it up, carefully cut it out with my scalpel, and stuck it in place. And lastly drilled a few new holes in the side of each missile pod.

    that's it!

So make your own, or buy mine off ebay for cheap. I have 6 regults, so I'll probably keep 3 or 4 for my little army. I'm sure (I hope) Kaiyodo will make these evntually, and if we're lucky a scout!

  3. I'm a huge fan of the Revoltech YF-21 because their over-exagerated proportions work well for that design, but I'm for bigger, solid plastic toys that can be airbrushed for details and weathering.

And those GNU seems tightened up pretty well, no?

I think I'll get the revy 21 (and I've already ordered 6 revy regults) and all the GNU's

  4. Thanks for all the votes and opinions.

This has been very informative for me, as I've discovered we are fairly evenly divided on this. I can (and do) filter through the repetitive complining to find good info and original insight, but I do find it tiresome. And I voted "yes, I'm happy with Yamato overall".

And great last post by transfan

  5. I love this forum for news, pics, answering rare questions, for sale/trade, and discussion with other MW members. Lately I've grown very tired of every different thread ending up as a Yamato complaint thread... the actual topic of the threads become lost. I'm curious as to what the majority of MW'ers think as I have no idea if I sit in the majority or minority... not that it's important, just curious to know. Which brings me to my questions:

  6. You wouldn't have any pics of the back of that Briareos kit would you?

Not that I could possibly afford it, I'm just curious. :)

    post-917-1210740672_thumb.jpg

    sorry for the delay.

I dropped the starting bid, so maybe you can afford it now. I really didn't want to sell it, but I have to make money and room for the new 1/60 scale VF-1's and destroid(s) and Macross Fronteir toys.

  7. Hi all,

I'm setting up my Macross display, and wondering which valk to use with the GBP armor. I think Hikaru's VF-IJ is the one I most remember from the TV series using the GBP. BUT, I kinda don't want to use that one and have it all hidden behind the armor. What about using my Hikaru VF-1A?

    Silly question, I know...thought?

I didn't want to waste my VF-1j in the armor either, but it's just too classic so I did it.

  8. Graham can answer this best, but I do feel pre production shots never look as nice unless they are really close to the final production. My guess is that the joints and gaps will be much tighter.

And I do like the stylized revoltechs myself, especially the 21, but the feeling of cheap and soft plastic in my hands does not fit with mecha toys. And a further bias (as a customizer) painting details and weathering are way better on hard plastic toys.

Lastly, as much as Graham may not like the revoltechs, I do think they should get some more mention (not necessarily a cover shot, because remeber, the better Graham's relationship with Yamato, the better it is for all of us)

  9. I'd like to re-state that I went through the past month+ of email---there was nothing. I didn't do the standard "click on an email link to my ebay account"--I didn't even GET any emails from ebay (real or fake) other than my daily favorite searches. And those don't even ask for your account info nor for you to log in, they just take you right to the search results.

Can I have more info about this firefox keylogging? I run my net browser fairly "locked down" and don't allow that much (activex, script, java, etc) by default--nearly every site is personally added by me to trusted sites before it's allowed to do anything----but I'd need to know exactly what settings do/don't allow that to know if I have it already prevented.

    Sorry about that.

    that really sucks.

  10. It's a massive B-Club kit from the early 90's. The body & the legs are one piece. About 24 cm high. There's even a Deunan bust underneath the hatch, but it's a really bad sculpt. The kit is impressive, but it needs some nice paint effects, else it will look boring with all those plain surfaces.

    post-917-1209965986_thumb.jpg

I would pay soo much for this kit. By far my favorite version of the landmate. All the later ones had huge thighs and small feet. I've only seen it for sale once and it was sold a week before I inquired about it. I'm selling my rare Briareos kit on ebay right now, but i would never part with that landmate kit if I ever get a hold of it.

  11. small, but on the right track! ^_^

In truth, I feel having an uncluttered shelf with just one piece on it looks way better than the jam packed shelves. Don't get me wrong, I would love to own a million macross toys, but I only have 10 myself.

    post-917-1208018995_thumb.jpg

But seriously, when you go to any museum, the pieces are spread out so you can really apreciate the details and design of each one. If I had a million toys, I would still have my favorites reside on their own shelves individually, or maybe 2 of the same toy in different modes, then I would have a cluttered basement layed out like a giant battle diorama.

I was in Italy and I saw "David" at the Acedemia whatever, and he was awesome. Could stare at the details forever. Then you walk out in the city and where he used to stand, they've put up a replica of him. And you know what, He was dwarfed by the buildings and multiple other statues nearby.

And lastly, Using this approach, you save money, and your wife and friends can apreciate (or put up with) your collection too!

Here are my 2 custom GBP armor sets, and the third pic... well, I know he is not a valk, and some would consider it blasphemy to post a gundam pic here, but I'm not a big fan of gundam either. I only like the design of the RX-178 so it's the only gundam I own. I painted it my own scheme, and then after some time, decided it would look better with some leftover Macross decals. I personally would love to see bandai make a PG valk.

  13. I had the aquarion (transforming) toys at one time, and it was well built. The only common complaint I heard was that it was so heavy from all the die-cast, that it didn't stand well. In a way, I wouldn't mind if it had some die-cast in it, but we'll have to wait and see.

  14. The new Wave SDF-1 arrived today thanks to Sunday EMS delivery. Nothing like the factory fresh smell as you open a package.

The "movie" color looks great with the little rectangles of differing gray painted on the hull. Not as nice as the custom on the pages prior but good enough for those that are lazy. The box art and graphics do a great job of selling you the idea that these are indeed the correct colors.

The fit and finish is almost perfect, the joint on the right leg, may or may not be a knee, that moves the engine laterally was loose and one of the side engines on an ARMD was glued slightly off angle.

When unpacking the instructions be careful there is a small dark gray hook included. It would be easily lost if unnoticed. The hooks use is explained but in Japanese. The transformation was easy and can be done without the instructions. You can cheat and leave the main guns forward to make the Macross look taller.

I don't have many capital ships but the Arcadia and Yamato are shown for a sense of size. The little ARMDs are really cool on their own.

After getting the Macross I want more ships so be careful or it just might be the fumes from the box.

    Edited: I cannot type.

Here's the last of my 1/48 customs, as I don't own any others and I think I'm leaning towards the 1/60's. Anyways, back when this Urban Camo set came out, I got it, but then wondered why it didn't look as good as the custom painted model it was based on... so I decided to custom paint it myself. I airbrushed and weathered this guy over the last few days (look closely). Since I'm trying to save up for upcoming Macross purchase, I may sell this guy on ebay, but haven't decided yet.

I carefully carved out the stickers, so no extra clear parts remain, and then i clearcoated the whole thing over top the airbrushing and stickers for a durable finish.

    hope you like it.

  16. LOL, I love the pic with them barely moving their arms "EXO ARTICULATION FOR REALISTIC BATTLE POSES" or whatever, funny.

I could picture the meeting... the sales team of 3 suits feigning interest in the series and going on about the "super-illumination" and "exo-articulation" and talking these toys up as if they were the most ground breaking toys in the history of the world, when in fact the production models didn't live up to the prototypes, and all the "Robotech" stuff were just Matchbox re-releases.

  17. You can't really call them prototypes because these are the same toys that were in production from Matchbox a few years earlier. Playmates just bought the tooling and started making them - mostly to say "In Your Face, FASA" because of the BattleTech lawsuit. I know playmates re-released the destroids in original and funky colors. I never saw a playmates version of the Glaug and Regult. I have the Matchbox versions so I know they are the same toys.

I guess you're right. I think with the Robotech/Macross toys only some colors were changed from the original Matchbox versions. Of the exosquad toys, some of them never made it to production, like the Space Conquest E-frame.
