I'm interested in the 171 cannon fodder with armor parts.
I'd take the alto renewal too if you would cover the shipping costs to Washington?
-

I like to see it in fighter mode
I'm going to let the paint cure a bit more, and then, in about week I'll transform it into fighter mode.
I'll probably add some decals to it too.
I'm selling one of the two on eBay.

I imagine the paint must be pretty delicate with that glossy finish. Did you have a trick to recommend to follow-up customizers?
I just used a krylon-brand enamel primer before any painting. I'm confident it would hold, but it's always better to sand things first. A fine grit, wet-sand paper would be enough I would think.

I got a 171 but I'd love to take that armor off your hands.
You should buy the armor for the cannon fodder, because it'll have the same parts, and then you get some cool WMDs as well.
-
I know a few people have made this custom before, but I just took some new pics in fighter mode with the appropriate arm-mounted weaponry. I might list my second one online for auction.
Next, I'm thinking of either customizing a Vf-171 in a real world, low-vis. grey, or maybe a stealth black... But no time for that right now.

This is weird, but after looking at all three of my 171 EXes I noticed something.
THe plastic on the shoulders, the head and the nose is a slightly different white than the off-white used on the wings, backpanel, etc.
THis is driving me nuts, I can't unsee it now
Darnit!
Now I'm only going to squint when looking at my 171's. I don't want to have to try to "un-see-it" later on.

I'm sure they don't get 100 units (that's why i said, "say, 100 units" meaning "whatever number they get). What i should have stated was that they get "x" units, and they post "<x" for preorder, 12 hours and a price bump, then they would post a few more, etc...
Again, not complaining. I think all's fair in Macross collecting. Just funny how quick their preorder cycle of "open--> closed--> pause--> price bump --> open" and so on, goes.
If they are acquiring more units from other sources, and that explains this phenomenon, that's cool too.
I've been working, and subsequently missed all the preorder windows. I'm currently selling my Ozma renewal on ebay, in hopes that they reissue it, and I can snag one down the road at a lesser price.
Oh, crazy Macross obsession.

I love Nippon Yasan, and I think it's totally fair for them to charge the market value for their product (which is really determined by us). I've order twice from them before, both times for just a slight markup (I was lucky with the timing).
But am I the only one who is pretty certain they have, say 100 units. They put 40 on preorder, they sell out fast. Then they wait a fair 12-24 hours, nudge the price up, and put 20 more on sale... And so on.
Whatever. It is what it is.

Cool collection! I see that you removed the jaws from the vb-6 how did you do that?
Careful scraping, fine sanding, then a little touch up painting.
Nice collections. Where did you get Ozma VF-100 Armored?
It's a VF 100 ozma, modified with the armoured Alto parts that were custom painted.

Photoshop would have been a much cheaper way to go!
I used Krylon grey primer and tocoat from Mr. Hobby to match the satin/semi-gloss finish of the black already on the 171. If you look closely at the last "1" on the chest, the front of the head and the stripes at the front of the ankle (too wide), you can see some errors, but all-in-all I'm happy.
I'm so worried about paint chipping I'm scared to transform it, but maybe on the weekend when I have time.
Thanks for the good words!

I'm definitely going to get a 17D and, as expensive as it is, I'm going to take it apart, paint all the grey more of a charcoal grey, and really make this guy stealthy! I'll post pics when I'm done.
And it's not like I have all this expendable income. I've sold most my valks and just kept a few VF-1's and SV-51's, but The 17D is one of my favs... and I need my stealth to be stealthy.

I can honestly say I've never had bad head in my life...
... but then again I didn't get any of the version 1 squishy heads
In all seriousness though, I'm anxiously awaiting the VF-17D! Now that has to be the best head in the Macross Universe!
-
As for the VF-17, it really is a non-issue for me, never cared for the design to begin with and personally don't like how this sculpt is looking in fighter mode. Put that with the really high price and.....well...
Chris
Funny, the VF-17 is one of my favorite designs (to each their own), but I like the "D" version better, so I'll just pass on this one and hope the "D" gets produced, and even then, I'll only buy one to display in battroid mode due to the compromised (but understandably so) fighter mode.
We're on the same page tho. I'm happy Yamato is doing what they're doing, but I'll only buy the ones I like and can afford, and just keep hoping there's enough customers out there buying all the Yamato toys I don't like to keep them producing
Still waiting for that 1/60 monster...
...the price and the compromised fighter mode will bring me to buy just one
-
Sure we should all just buy every release no matter the cost just so hopefully they'll make the next toy. Whatever.
Chris
wow.... that's exactly what I meant... Let me re-phrase the first part to avoid any further mis-interpretation:
"if you don't like it, or if you like it but can't afford it, then don't buy it"
... and the market will decide whether Yamato is successful or not.
-
I'm amazed.
I would love a sleeker fighter, but of course, there would be big sacrifices to the battroid (which I love). Bottom line, there is a design team that spends countless days engineering and re-engineering these wonderful toys, in which they have to make some compromises here and there to get the best final product, and then we tear it down on the internet.
Must be annoying for them, but I guess it's the same as pro athletes who are in the top 1% of players in their sport, dealing with the media and fans telling them they suck.
If you don't like it, don't buy it, and then they won't continue to bother us by making anymore Macross toys(...although I'm sure Graham and a few others will buy enough of a VF-17 fleet to keep them afloat)

I just thought I'd throw up a pic of my modestly customized Konig Monster. I love the teeth, but I do think I loved the original version more, so here it is: I was going to customize another one of my monster figures but decided to list it on ebay along with a bunch more macross stuff that I realized I just don't have the time for.
-
thanks for the kind words!
And yeah, they made an Ozma Battroid, a Konig Monster and a Tornado Alto in fighter mode.

I had an extra gerwalk mode of the SD VF-25S from Banpresto, so I decided to customize it into the fighter mode. Hope you like it!

I got the Luca renewal fastpack set with the Ghosts but one of them was missing a fin!
... So I decided to customize the set (even though the CF one is coming out next year) because I like the little antennae/gun thingies on the fast packs. So now you can see a few more CF fastpack pics ahead of time!
... And I had to build a little stand out of Lego to display the Ozma armor set because I can't wait around forever for the Ozma renewal! Come on Bandai!
