only 5 minutes in and Holy ****!

That would cmake it a anti-military movie.
Produced by Kaifun?
Quite possibly

There's a perfect way of integrating Macross II into the main storyline: Say it's a sequel to the in-universe movie version of DYRL, and there you have it.

If we somehow end up with an hour long surprise, then maybe most major questions will be reasonably well answered. But with the usual 25 minute episode, I say there is an over 95% probability that major questions like the origin of NUNs, a reasonably detailed history of what REALLY happened in the 117th fleet incident, etc.
It's already been confirmed to be a normal length episode.

I keep hearing that Frontier is really 49 episodes and the episode titles don't tell anything clearly about a final episode. Any truth to this?
No. Some site stated it to be 49 episodes in error, it has since been corrected. Episode 25 is the last.

I'm thinking it's a typo as well.

More interesting would be what she meant by "both species". Did she mean humans and vajra, or humans and zentraedi?
Except she doesn't use the word 'species' in that scene at all, I believe.
-
Nope. It just says Normal type, Alto type, Luca type. Alto's is probably a normal type with a different paint scheme.
Except for the fact that his machine clearly has differences other than a different paint job. The extra gear on the legs for instance. Of course you're right in that the text doesn't state anything.

It IS Exsedol Folmo.

CG mecha scans from the new November 2008 issue of Hobby Japan Magazine.
Note the various versions of the VF-171EX.
After about a month, I will remove the pages from the mag to file them and then I can do better scans.

I'm more spellbound by the big guy up on top. Finally get to see a good big scan of him, thanks!

But for what reason? Just to connect everyone? I'm ready for disappointment if that was it in a nutshell. I've accepted galaxy domination as the prime mover for Grace and perhaps Leon, but that in itself feels like a cliched motive, so I'm still looking forward to finding out who exactly Briler wants to communicate with to make a spectacular ending.
I'm thinking who Bilrer wants to meet is of a highly personal nature, thus low on the 'grand' scale. And what's disappointing about his dream to connect the galaxy? Galaxy conquest is higher on motive list for Leon than it is for Grace, who is more into the whole mad scientist way of changing the world, beating the protoculture by doing something they couldn't and being proven 'right'.

I am guessing Macross 04, as we all know the Megaroad class took up the SDF mantle, and there is evidence of the Megaroad-03 SDF-04 in the continuity.
Global was referred to as "The 4th Macross class ship Global" within the show. Macross 04 Global. No mention of "SDF" anywhere.

Hehehe, poor tiny little Quarter
I'm thinking the Macross Galaxy wastes the Macross Frontier, then the Macross Quarter comes in to save the day
Is that scale correct though? Somehow it doesn't strike me as being a quarter of the length of a NMC...
-
I'm thinking that Battle Galaxy may be the same size than the Quarter.
Don't think so, it has the same type of gun turrets as Battle Frontier, and what we see of its shoulder looks like a standard NMC type. So I say a very unique looking NMC, possibly with some unique technological innovations.

I'd speculate it's Kawamori demonstrating a more plausible use for the transformation as opposed to Mac 7's "Oh look a ship, let's transform!"
That's all fine n' dandy n' all. But I'm beginning to suffer from withdrawal here...
-
At the very least, I want to see it transform, I've a sneaking suspicion it's actually the top of the front bit of the Galaxy (which is suspiciously flat).
I wanna see Battle Frontier transform too... wee saw bits of the transformation in ep 24, but nothing that I would deem satisfying
Kawamori taking revenge on all who complained about Battle 7 always transforming I wonder...

I've a feeling that when Ozma and co. show up, they'll be handing Alto back his old VF-25.
Oh believe it. It's gonna happen. Heck they'll give him an armored pack. It's in the opening even

My take is that he's wearing those earrings with the fold quartz. Therefore, he sees past the illusion, and sees the source - the Battle Galaxy which is transmitting the signal from the bound up (crucified?) Ranka. Whom, given the lack of life in her eyes (typical anime dull-eye/all colour & no black technique), is under the control (mind control?) of someone else.
Which, IMHO, Aruto realizes and is about to do something about. And then Burera shows up.
More or less exactly how I saw it as well.

Was out the whole weekend and was only able to watch the episode tonight.
But that shot is quite interesting, it seems that the Battle Galaxy's bridge is more head-like, complete with a neck than that of the Battle Frontier.
I wonder if this is because someone can actually jack into it and use it like a ship sized Ex-gear.
Indeed, as well as having, by the looks of it, huge bridge antennae. Also no visible 'window' that is normal on these bridges. Dying to see the whole thing.

Sorry if I'm steering the discussion in a different direction, but at around 20:49 in episode we see a head that at first seems to be Brera's VF-27, until we notice a set of ship cannons right next to it. So it looks like we have our first look at Battle Galaxy.
If anything, the "shoulder" seen at the right seems to indicate that it's still a New Macross Class ship but heavily modified as it's head doesn't match that of the other NMC ships we've seen. I wonder though if this indicates that even cap ships can now be controlled in VR (seems likely) or, if worse if they might even be controlled by remote?
was brought up 2 pages ago in this very thread. But I agree, it needs more discussin'

Quite lol worthy indeed.

Anata no Oto. "Your sound".

OMG! Absolutely shocking! No Macross ever did something like that! I like the homage to Macross Plus in that episode too, especially when Alto
burst in to flames.
Man, I hope this series goes on for at least 3 more eps and a max of 4 because they have a lot of 'splainin' to do like some other members already posted. Besides the appearance of several NMC ships, I was surprised their defensive fleet was as large as it is because I surely didn't show them having a force that size.
Next episode is the last.

Just had another thought (sorry if they are all pouring out like a mad man)...
So I guess that orange Dulfim-like ship was Grace's base of operations this whole time? This is where her VF-27 fighters come from and likely where she was "downloaded" after her "death" on Gallia IV? Makes sense and I'm kinda embarrassed that I didn't guess that was the case this whole time
Always figured it was the Dulfim. But it has me wondering, where was it until now? Docked with Island 1 the whole time? Who's on it? The original galaxy crew? Noone, and it's running on auto? Why didn't anyone notice it leaving then, they sure noticed the quarter quick enough. Doubt Leon would be so careless just to ignore it. As for it being Grace's base of operations, it seems likely. And you're not alone in forgetting it... but that's to be expected since we haven't really seen it in like what 16 episodes
