  1. I am just really interest how the copyright issues are being handled. Making a Robotech movie without paying the Japanese creators the royalties they are due seems like a really dicey case of plagiarism to me.
  2. Although, sad as it is, they may have their ultimate revenge if Tobey Maguire manages to mangle the story to death and we won't ever be able to see a life-action Macross film, because now Hollywood has dibs on Robotech. Yeah, look. I came pretty late into Macross fandom, due to life circunstances like not knowing nor giving a poo about the differences for many years and have only really become a true convert with Macross Frontier. Which results in me having purchased the Robotech books many years ago and having read them all at least twice. And I don't know where you got your characterization of Dana Sterling from, but that is not how she comes off in the last book, The End of the Circle. There she still is a gung-ho action-girl, which is a definite step up from "emotional wreck for the rest of her life".
  3. And a wrestler to boot. To bad there ain't any videos where he gets ambushed on the way to the ring, that might work off any lingering bad feelings I got towards the green moeblob.
  4. How certain is this information? Kresphy, while being a laudable bringer of information, has sometimes turned up with questionably sourced materials. It seems to run contrary to what we knew before, that the second movie would be a new story, therefore I am a bit apprehensive about this information. And I kinda resent that accusation that Alto was a bad protagonist. He could use a bit more decisiveness, but all around he was a centered character who believed in duty, friendship and was someone you could trust to come through for you. Someone who cared. One could definitely do worse than having him as main protagonist.
  5. I love the chibi cellphone icons for Sheryl and Alto.
  6. ... although his Twitter posts are protected, so I at least cannot look at them. Anyway, they are calling him out on Macross Generation and other admins are distancing themselves from him already. At the moment it is "presument innocent until proven guilty", but since he hasn´t shown his face over there for two weeks and is still active elsewhere...
  7. I since deleted the episodes translated by Shalooms group from my hard drive, since I found a spanish group more to my liking and already made and sent out the DVDs to my best friend in Paraguay. Also, I am a bit short on time the next weeks, due to two works I got to present in college in subsequent weeks. Sorry. However, I´ve looked up the "episode notes" which was on the fansub groups forums, which are different from the more extensive liner notes. Although both are written by Shaloom. Shaloom directly states in them that they changed the name of Klan Klein to Kuran Kuran and Mr. Birura into Mr. Birla, because "Big West sent the real names to him". Make of this what you will.
  8. Actually, I made a note of the difference between the translations, because fansubbers like gg_subs said they are worked from the closed captioning script. You can imagine my confusion when Shaloom claimed that he was getting stuff from the official site ( like him saying that the official name for Klan Klein is "Kuran Kuran" ).
  9. Perfectly fine, because I brought this up, because it had been bugging me for a while, didn´t seem worth a separate thread, though and the topic had shifted in a direction where I could say something about it. Yeah, some of our guys get a little rough sometimes. Me included. Then again, we got people there who come into a thread and begin calling Sheryl a slurm, without any sort of justification. I completely agree that any attack on Megumi is out of line. But I very strongly feel that Ranka as a character is impressively flawed and takes a lot of short-sighted actions, and therefore her characterization suffers very much in comparison to Sheryl, who is portrayed as so much stronger and humane in lots of ways. That´s just a matter of fact at this point. I am still wondering why the creators did build up Ranka and Sheryl in this way, and the "liner notes" seemed to provide ample hints to that. Which made them easier to swallow. Well, things have simmered down to a truce over there, because very few new things are happening at the moment. I cannot make promises, I fear to say, because if the film doesn´t balance things a bit ( like DYRL did ), we´ll get another round of "Weak Ranka" vs. "Strong Sheryl". And, I guess, the same kind of arguments we had before.
  10. Yeah, I tend to get a bit emotional on that topic. You are really the better spokesperson. I have always gotten pretty annoyed, though, at this nebulous perception here on MW that fans on AS are somehow inferior in quality than the ones here. Ah, well. Elitism even in the fandom itself, I guess.
  11. I think it would help if you would stop making subtle potshots at Sheryl fans... those are annoying, too, y'know.
  12. Betos main problem is that he lives in Brazil.
  13. BTW, reposting here some stuff from AnimeSuki, which should be of interest to all: This about confirms every single point of speculation I ever uttered here and on AS about the Sheryl-Grace connection and then some. Good to know that my speculations were right. Also:
  14. Not at all, I have to say. I´ve been periodically checking Macross Generation, to see if anybody there has opened a topic about this, but so far it seems like nobody has done so. I am reluctant to do it, because I just joined to get to the liner notes and translate them. I don´t enjoy being an agent provocateur. But, first things first. Gubaba... you get an offer to obtain the number of an english speaking member of Satelight and you turn it down?? You know that there are people who would kill for such a chance, do you? Now, as to the whole issue... for me it is especially painful, because I a.) used up about three whole days of my life to translate a bunch of fan-fiction and b.) I really enjoyed the "liner notes" at the moment. A lot of stuff Shaloom wrote, like the Milia / Max story with the photo in the helmet, and how Ohnogi met his wife... all very well written, some painfully emotional stuff, especially for a Sheryl fanatic like me. Having this turn out to be a very well elaborated hoax really sucks. Hard. I would have enjoyed it as fan-fiction, however, if labeled so... As to Shalooms motivation... phew. Really hard to say, because contrary to some random guy on a message board, he actually has something to lose. He owns the Macross Generation forums, and is a respected leader of their community over there. This getting exposed will very likely hurt his image immensely. Why did he do it, then? It may well be gigantic dissatisfaction with the ending. It may be that he thought he´d get away with it, and could then bind his community more together, with the "access" he had to privileged information. I guess I should have seen this coming when I was looking at the subs for the episodes his fansub group did. While most other groups kept to a script which largely differed in which words were used to translate a sentence, his group sometimes had the characters say things distinctly different. I don´t mean in the way the sentence was built, but that the meaning of some sentences were different. ( I´d have to re-download all episodes of their sub and compare them to explain this in more detail... a bit much work, so please trust me on this ). I chalked this up to just a quirk of the translators, especially since there were some kind of episode notes on their forum where they claimed to have official material from Satelight, or somesuch. But in light of what we now know, I guess it comes down to them just changing stuff around more to their liking. Geeze, what a letdown. Lots of emotional energy spent about absolutely nothing, just because one guy thought he could re-write history. I sincerely hope he at least admits what he did, or, how infinitesimal that chance may be, presents the material he supposedly has. But, anyway, thanks to Gubaba for spending his time to ferret out the truth and being an all-around nice person. Three cheers!
  15. Wait, why is everybody going "Oh, a retelling. What interesting new information"? We did know it´d be a retelling since about January, IIRC...
  16. I am going to go against all this "Rara, Ohnogi, you saved Frontier, without you it would have been crap" thing, which I have seen developing on AnimeSuki and here for a while. Yeah, I pretty much agree that Ohnogi took the romance to a new level, and if he would have been allowed to finish it in the way it deserved, the finale of Frontier would have been much more epic and memorable than what we got. But I really do not see how the series was full of filler episodes, like you say. About the only three episodes which weren´t essential to the plot were episodes 8, 9 and 10. But even those managed to advance the plot or at least advance character development in significant ways. I do agree that they probably could have been replaced with more significant stuff, but they are heads and shoulders above to filler episodes of other series. Then we got that meme that Frontier had lost its way around episode 17, and then Ohnogi got in and saved the series... how exactly is that true for the main storyline? We already knew that Grace was a bad guy around that point, Leon was plotting with her, Mr. Bilrer had shown up and Frontier was losing its grip on its fragile ecosystem. All the plot elements which only got expanded upon were already there. I believe that Ohnogi did help out tremendously with the romance aspect of the series, but as for the main storyline, things were already on track as they were. As for Alto, I´m not going to start a long argument, but I profoundly disagree about your view on his character. The triangle, though, was lopsided towards Sheryl very much, so I agree that it could have been done better. But then Ranka would have needed to have another type of personality, I guess. In any case, Sheryl is awesome.
  17. Ask people like Tak about the interview, they should be able to help you find it, if it was posted on AnimeSuki.
  18. Am I wrong, or is that blog entry from June 2008? When the episodes where Ohnogi contributed hadn´t aired yet?
  19. Actually, make three posts ( but refrain from just making "Me, too!" posts, they frown upon that. Add something of value to the existing thread you post in. ) in different threads, and you immediately gain access to it. Well, that was the case with me, anyway. If you want to go directly to the person with the answers, just PM Shaloom, he very kindly gave me very detailed responses, the last time I spoke with him.
  20. I made some time to get the liner notes translation for episode 24 ready today. You can read it here. As always all credits go to Shaloom and the Macross Generation forums. The individual posts for the episode 24 liner notes can be found in this thread, although they are in Spanish and you need to be an active member of the forum to access them. Please do not divulge this all over the internet without duly crediting Shaloom and the Macross Generation forums.
  21. Shaloom has posted his liner notes for episodes 23 and 24 at the Macross Generation forums. I have already translated the liners notes for episode 23 here. My translations for episode 24 will follow tomorrow, if time permits. As always all credits go to Shaloom and the Macross Generation forums. The individual posts for the episode 23 liner notes can be found in this thread, although they are in Spanish and you need to be an active member of the forum to access them. Please do not divulge this all over the internet without duly crediting Shaloom and the Macross Generation forums. Have fun!
  22. Good question, actually. I think it has to do with what I perceive as a Japanese thing. They seem to dislike complete resolutions and happy endings somewhat. Many times endings are bittersweet or somewhat unresolved.
  23. Not yet, the last liner notes are for episode 22, which I already translated and posted on AnimeSuki. Their affiliated fansub group already has released episode 23, so I think Shaloom will surely bring out the corresponding liner notes soon. I am checking in daily to look for them.
  24. Thanks for crediting the original posters of the interview.
  25. He wrote episodes 18-24 for Macross Frontier, has done numerous other writing work, including for the original Macross. Final Vegeta, please edit your initial post and give credit to Shaloom and the Macross Generation forums!
