  1. I have the Quadrilogy set. It's well worth the money, even upgrading from the old Legacy set.

The Alien3 workprint is interesting and definately makes a difference. The only slight downside to it is that the original materials had degraded and couldn't be properly restored to good quality, sound especially. It defaults to having subtitles on for a couple of scenes.

Also, Alien3 is very underrated and very undeservingly bashed. It's not as good as the first and second movies certainly, but it's nowhere near as bad as it's reputation, or the fourth movie which is truely terrible.

  2. It has nothing to do with computer literacy, and everything to do with not needing unnecessary hardware/software, broadband, etc.

If $11 a disc is too rich for your blood, then you're apparently the foolish one.

Too rich for my blood? Hardly.

I'm just smarter than to give my money to criminals for stolen goods (or 'bads' considering the substandard quality of bootlegs).

  3. [if Macross Zero ever gets an official R1 release, they will undoubtedly apply the needless anime markup, and though they could fit all 5 eps of the OVA on one DVD, they will undoubtedly release one episode per DVD at $29.99 per.

    uh no

It would most likely get a similar release to Yukikaze, five episodes over two disks. Nobody does one episode per disk releases in R1.

  4. Hmm, let's see.

-Spend multiples of hours downloading the episode, finding the proper codec's to play it, worrying that the download client may have spyware, having someone's bad subtitles hard encoded on the video, buying a DVD burner, installing a DVD burning, tracking down DVD encoding software, wasting precious printer ink to make a cover, tracking down a spare amaray case....

    or

-Picking up an $11 HK DVD, premake art, passable subtitles (download a script if necessary).

    Which is better again??? :)

For any person at least half computer literate person and with any sense of ethics, the first choice.

  5. I watched it a while ago - definately the best episode yet. The art and animation are superb, they really took it to another level. Especially the CG animation, it's still not quite perfect but moves a lot better.

I was also really impressed with the music. No singing, but it just fit very well, and a nice ending credits song.

It's not an all action episode, the entire first half as none as it's devoted to plot (which was needed) and Roy fans should scale down their expectations - he's barely present in the episode. He has no scenes other than the sequence with the armoured valkyrie only says about three words during that. It's predominantly a Shin/Mao/Sara episode.

  6. Why this got cancelled in its run I don't know I LOVED this show SO MUCH.

I've heard Gundam X was cancelled because Evangelion's reruns stole the ratings.

    FV

An incorrect rumour which just won't die, the two never competed.

Gundam X started in a prime timeslot (5:30pm Fridays) and was expected to do well - it only did average. Combined with it's merchandise doing poorly, after 26 episodes it was shifted from that timeslot to 6:00am Saturday mornings - a deathblow. In the new timeslot it's highest rating didn't even match the lowest rating it had achieved in it's original timeslot, thus it was cancelled.

  7. If you can rent.... rent as many as you can without listening to anyone. Ppl bash Wing, but you might miss out on something that you might enjoy if you listen to them.

If you can't rent.... buy the first DVD of the series that are available and see if you like anything you see. If you don't.... its not really a big loss. But if you do like.... expect to be spending alot of money on it.

Have an adventure spirit.... walk into this unknown region without a map. :)

Probably the best advice in this thread so far.

  8. I am a complete fan of Macross. Macross II, Plus and Macross 0

    I liked MOSPEADA as well.

But here in Toronto, I can't find any Macross stuff in the comic stores.

Everything is about GUNDAM. some toys are pretty impresive.

I have no idea about GUNDAM. is good? Should I buy a DVD? if so, which one is good for a newbie like me?

    Should I forget about GUNDAM?

    thanks

    Gaston

Start with Gundam SEED, although at this point you'd have to watch fansubs since it won't be released on dvd until next year (avoid HK bootleg dvds like plague).

It's a good series that's basically made for people like yourself.

After that, Zeta, Victory, Turn-A and X are very good series.

The only Gundam you really need to actively avoid are Gundam Wing TV, Gundam F-91 and Gundam ZZ. They are dreck.

(0079 while 'good', is a badly aged relic, only notable for nostalga value now. Worth watching at some point, but not first.)

  9. Hehehe, I read one M7 H-doujin, and it made no sense whatsoever.

I admit I can't read much Japanese, but something tells me they never quite explained why...

I don't think the dialogue is really the point :p

I was pretty amused by an M7 h-doujin I read recently due to their rather unique form of censoring, where instead of lines and mosaics covering certain parts, they used pictures of valkyries.

  10. Has episode 3 been subbed yet? I really want to like Yukikaze, but if the next episode doesn't WOW me with some characterization or some semblence of a plot, then I'm done.

Episode 3 was subbed a bit back - you should search it out, it redeems the show after the crapfest that was the second episode.
