  1. This is NOW! my Fav Frontier episode ;)!!!!!

OMG i love the concert scenes and how they mix it with the ED!!!!!!!!!

Yeah well, that had me wondering how they were going to do it, since they were playing the end theme right before the closing credits, and then they just went and continued through the credits. Very well done. The last five minutes of the episode in particular were outstanding. The whole thing was good, though. Now we have to wait for what looks like a boring episode next week.

  2. The Maizuru-Class would be the only truly "NEW" ship in the fleet. That must be the big grey fella with all the cannon turrets; the one that got "blowed up" by the Vajra in episode 1.

"Blowed up" is putting it mildly. A capital ship taken out with one shot from what is essentially a fighter sized (but probably not fighter classed) vessel.

What was even funnier was the other capital vessel behind it (Not sure, maybe I can be helped on this) being turned into a fruitloop by an alien blast then blowing up.

It basically means that unless other ships have got REALLY good shields, I think we shall see some more easy destruction of fleets in the future.

  3. Then who's green VF-25F is shown underneath Luca's RVF-25 in the Newtype scan?

My money is that the mysterious Valk is Kodo's VF-0 and the mystery of what happened to Shin & Sara will finally be closed... B)) (assuming of course it is indeed the VF-0...).

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I don't think that the mystery Valk is connected with Shin or the VF-0. Unless Mr Kawamori had such a plan back when he made Macross Zero. (Don't get me wrong, I would like for there to be a link and to have final closure on the events of Macross Zero, but I doubt its going to happen in this series.)

I still think that Shin and Sara ended up in the same place as Hikaru and Misa and Megaroad-01. That is, in some sort of netherworld where they will never be seen again.

If I am wrong about all of this, I don't mind either. I would be happy to see Macross drawing more on its own history.

  4. From www.gallifreyone.com

"Classic series actor Bernard Archard has died at the age of 91.

Archard created two memorable roles in the series. In 1966 he played the role of Bragen, the security chief seeking complete control of a colony of humans on the planet Vulcan, in Patrick Troughton's first story, The Power of the Daleks.

He returned to the series in 1975 to create the classic role of Marcus Scarman in the Tom Baker story Pyramids of Mars a story highly rated by fans."

He will be missed. I will probably never get to see him in The Power of the Daleks, but he was truly brilliant in The Pyramids of Mars, playing a man reduced to a puppet by a powerful alien. A very evil and chilling puppet, who even kills his own brother. I have to admit that I was surprised when I bought Pyramids of Mars on DVD several years ago that he was still alive and able to take part in some of the documentary special features on the disc.

    He will be missed.

  5. Several instances of funny wording. Not plot errors, mind you, but just how it reads. Alto tells Mikhail that "you better not forget this!" when he is pushing him hard, which makes no sense. It should read something like, "I won't forget this!" Also, "It's twice as tough with the EX-Gear switched on.", which again, makes no sense. Its easier with it switched on. There are several instances of that kinda thing in this episode. And then it seems like several people are just given the rank of captain (including Bobby??). Some of their choices when it comes to wording strike me as odd, as well. Shinsen's first three episodes are still better than the first three put out by the other three groups doing this series, and I was just a little shocked to see such a drop in quality in this release.

For my money, Shinsen has been doing the best work, accuracy and readability. Gattai does well with accuracy, but suffers when it comes to readability. AiA-IZ is a solid read, but the translation has been a little too fast and loose for my liking. You *must* get plot points right when subbing, over everything else. However, their episode 4 release is my favorite Frontier sub so far. Outside of the big flub on Ranka being the only survivor of the 117th Research Fleet, I really felt AiA-IZ took a big step forward with episode 4, and I am eagerly awaiting their episode 5 work.

They are all doing it for free though (if people get paid for fansubbing I would like to know about it), so maybe we should not complain much out of respect. Better than no fansub at all.

  6. i dunno, but macross galaxy certainly sounds like a weird place. no zentradi, no domed city ship with earth like landscapes, electronic implants that are illegal on frontier are extremely commonplace. sheryl made it sound like quite a dreary and artificial place.

Don't forget, according to the intro of the Deculture Edition there are a LOT of different fleets. And some of the subtitles in the Shinsen translation of one of the episodes does suggest a level of diversity with the fleets. Some are commercial affairs and others are government run.

Some fleets are probably more "military" than others as well.

One interesting question. I wonder how these colony ships are constructed. They are certainly massive and would be a major undertaking of engineering, even with the assistance of Zentradi technology and manpower. I guess that the captured Zentradi factory-satellite could be

Also, since most of the Earths population was wiped out in Space War One, I wonder what percentage of humanity would now be clones or descendants of clones, since the species seems to be spreading so drastically.

  7. Wow, the subs were really helpful this time. Lots of character development and even without any battles that was a really great and enjoyable episode. Can't think of anything that hasn't been said already, just that the hippo-cows are now my official favorite macross creature

I admit that the Hippo Cows are VERY cool but to me the best creature seen in Macross is still the colossal bird creature (Terrorsaur, I can't remember, maybe thats a Beast Wars character) that we see on the planet Eden in Macross Plus. A truly amazing creature. Imagine what it would be like to live on a world where such creatures existed.

  8. However, if the anime IS indeed 26 episodes long, they really need to start moving things along now. Mysterious aliens and love triangles get old quickly if an anime relies on them.

Yes, you are right there. Time for the pace and the action to start to pick up. It would seem that all of the introductions are over, the characters have generally been established. I don't think that random Vajra attacks or attacks in ones and twos are going to cut it anymore. Time for some bigger action and to explain why they are such a threat.

  9. Of course all this mention of the Birdman could be a big fat red herring to throw us fans off.

It'll probably turn ot that the Birdman is some minor comic relief character that dresses up in a bird suit, to promote a rival restaurant to Nyan Nyan, or something silly like that.

    Graham

Probably just a red herring. The show will probably feature a former superhero-turned-lawyer having a strange career.

Did you get that thing I sent ya!!!!!!

  10. Just a few things.

    1. Looking at what the Vajra is in Indian mythology, (a weapon), I think that its fair to assume thats all the species of bugs are. Just weapons.

    2. During today's episode, when the Vajra "reactivated" did Cathy really have a swooning faint and fall into Ozma's arms. If so, thats sci-fi old school. If she was hit by debris, I certainly didn't see it.

    3. Is that supposed to be the Vajra that Ozma stabbed in the neck. Or has one been captured and kept in storage after a previous encounter. (that would remind me of independence day, "Here's this alien ship that we caught earlier and we've known about them all along.")

    4. I think that its pretty obvious why the Vajra in the tank reawakened. Look at him clutching his claw in frustration before he goes beserk. He's sick of being bored by Leon's crappy speech.

    5. As you can see from my last point, I have now decided that the Vajra are male, all of them. Big red and yellow boys out for a good time with the little girls. (God, I'm tired........)

    6. Finally, I am going to see the Foo Fighters tonight. Just thought I would let everybody know. Pity I am not seeing them in the Sydney Opera House again which is where I saw them last time they toured. A replica of the Opera House would look good in the colony ship, actually.

  11. I love every bit of Macross Frontier's mostly positive view of the future. It almost brought a tear to my eye. B))

Just imagine fifty years ago the "giants" were at war with humanity. Now they're fully integrated into the community living side by side and having fun together.

It is a nice positive view, isn't it.

Given humanities current inability to get on with each other I hate to say but I think the chances of us living in harmony with a race of giant aliens are very remote. (And not just because giant aliens don't exist in our world.)

  12. HAHAHAHAHAHA

I suddenly want to visit San Fran... brilliant! Took until this episode to figure it out when all the hints were there from the start what with the cable-cars, suspension bridge, observatory and rolling hills.

Its not ALL San Fran though. The observatory that featured in Ep3 was clearly labelled Griffith Observatory and that is located in Los Angeles, not San Fran.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griffith_Observatory

I think its more likely that the colony ship has a combination of famous landmarks from around Earth.

    CKIN' LOVE THIS SHOW!!!

    SHERYL

    QUOTES

    MINMAY!

They say the Vajra are "living weapons" and everybody's shocked...? Dude, we figured that out MONTHS ago! And if they can vaporize a Vajra in captivity that quickly and easily, why can't they do that same out in space?

Whew! I'm a-gonna go watch it agin. Yee-haw, pardners.

I know its only a remote possibility, but does anybody think that its possible that the Vajra folded out of there rather than being disintergrated. I know its more likely that it was disintergrated, but still, looking at it it could be possible.
