  1. Because in the past the fleet wasn't prepared for them... (and didn't use reaction weapons, the Monster or Macross Quarter before). As mighty as the Vajra are, they are not indestructible or invincible. B))

(Actually I still found the little S.O.B. Vajra units as deadly as ever... just look how one managed to destroy Alto's VF with its last dying breath... stabbing it with its tail...).

Yes, but as was pointed out by someone else, the Vajra did seem to have some sort of "anti-missile" flak (the tentacle defence pods)that they used in episode one that seemed to be strangely absent from episode 7. The red Vajra that captured Luca did seem to use the same sort of ectoplasm to grab his fighter and cart it away. Looked like Spidey the way he did it. (Surprised that I have seen no other comments on this new ability.)

I still think that overall the Vajra threat did not seem to be as great in this episode. Their mothership folded in, blasted one capital ship with its main gun, sat there doing nothing for ten minutes and then used the main gun to take out an asteroid. (If it takes that long to charge their big gun they have real problems.)

Compared to episode one when the red vajra used its big gun in rapid succession in a few minutes to take out a capital ship, blast a hole in the colony ships dome and then take out a bunch of tanks.

I think in episode 7 what we needed was more shots of cannon fodder getting trashed (I only saw one SMS destroid blow up) to make the battle seem more realistic. (I doubt that they only lost one VF-25).

If they want to downgrade the threat of the Vajra that is fair enough, but they need to introduce a new threat to replace them (yes, I know that the vf-27 and its supporting forces will probably fill that role.)

I know that the Vajra is not invincible, but neither is the SMS.

  2. I was bored and figured id make some ring tones for my blackberry. All the files are MP3 Layer 3 ACM, 48000 Hz, 192kbps, stereo. More to come soon. I am also willing to take requests. Just tell me the episode number and the time frame.

    =====FILES======

Takeoff.mp3 is Broadcast Episode 1 were the VF-171s take off

NyanNyan.Mp3 is the Nyan Nyan commerical.

MacrossFrontierIntro.Mp3 is the intro of Macross Frontier

AimoHarmonica.Mp3 is Aimo that the Red VF-27 pilot plays while they are in fold sequence

  3. At what point does Brera appear to aid Alto and Luca? He kinda shoots the gunpod out of Luca's Valkyrie's hand, and then aims his gun directly at Alto and Luca up until the point that the Quarter appears.

Put simply, he helped them by not killing them. As others have pointed out, he had ample opportunity. I still think that this is going to degenerate into some sort of three-way conflict and I think that the Vajra are going to end up being the pawns (or prawns, depending on your opinion of them  ) in the battle. We do not know enough about the Vajra to know if their motives are truly evil, but I predict that they will be squished BEFORE the end of the series, with the final conflict being between the SMS/Frontier forces and whoever the hell Brera is working for.

  4. Even despite some of these may be preproduction sketches, I am glad to know there are further Vajra types. After episode 7 Vajras look less menacing that they were at the beginning.

    FV

Thats one criticism that I did have of Episode 7, the Vajra seemed to be nowhere near as deadly as they have been in the past.

  5. 2) The economics of Macross has never really been touched upon.

Thank god. Economics as a whole is pretty much ignored in SF in general. Except for "Trade disputes and federations" in a rather crappy set of prequels which demonstrated successfully why economics should be ignored.

(It was brought up in Hitch-Hikers Guide, I guess, but only so Douglas Adams could take the piss out of it.)

  6. Always wondered what became of that law. I would think that after 50 years that law would have been rescinded. I just can't see them getting away with denial of Zentradi rights once the Zentradi became integrated into society to the level they have been. By now the government must be filled with Zentradi and half/quarter mixes. But who knows, old laws sometimes die hard :)

The vision that Macross Frontier shows is that the future, at least on the colony ships, seems to be pretty prejudice free. Its hard to believe that humanity would so easily give up such a bad habit.

  7. The three Zentradi emissaries in DYRL clearly have pronounced pointed ears and also have oddly shaped lobes. This was continued in Macross Plus and Macross 7. The only reason the pointed ears seem to be more exaggerated on some Zentradi than others could be attributed to both style of the animation artists and a conscious decision on the part of the character designer to give certain characters particular sized ears to make them more distinguishable from each other.

This brings up the thing that I am most confused about now with Macross. According to the discussion here, DYRL is supposed to be a movie made within the Macross world to summarise the events of Space War I.

    Ok. I can understand that.

Now, if this is the case then why do they show a frame of Britai and other characters from the original series at the very start of Macross Frontier but using DYRL designs and events. (Roy and Minmay were certainly not with them when they were captured in the original series.)

What I am asking is, what is canon now. The events and designs from the original SDF:M series or the events and designs from the "fictional, but based on fact" DYRL movie???

I know that this is probably a dumb question but I was wondering if it was possible to get a simple answer to this?

  8. Like i said, lets hope its not gonna be something like "flower-of-life" thingy :ph34r:

Why do the Vajra wanna collect these things? What do they want to do with owners of these gems? Where are they bringing them? A gathering of all gem owners?

Even though Luca was not singing, there's something about the resonance and a specific (sound?) wavelength that activates the crystal, perhaps Ranka's or Sheryl's singing/voice are coincidentally on the same wavelength. Maybe its not about voice or sound but rather emotions, esp strong emotions (brain-waves?) - like how Sheryl was feeling when she was singing, seemed to be able to transmit that voice/emotion to Alto at that time (or it could be Ranka's singing in the background).

The fold communications/datalink device, is labelled F.S.S.A. dunno what it stands for though. It is supposed to counter the Vajra's jamming of the ghosts via this new fold communications technology (using the crystal), and also to send visual signals n data back to Frontier at near real time (enables the President & others to watch 'live' :) ). This material/technology does not seem to be affected by fold faults, and the vajra carrier seems to have "fold reactors" which uses the same material too (thats why it can de-fold out of the fold fault without problems).

and u can see at the tip of the device, there's a gem as well.

    http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/5544/fo...ondeviceag9.jpg

So this gem enables transmission of voice, data, and even allow space fold without the problems caused by the fold faults. Does this mean this is more advanced than the Protoculture technology? Or rather the Protoculture/Zentradi technology at the time of their civil war. Who knows, some PC from a certain faction might have discovered this during/after the civil war, perhaps this is also the trick to opening the gateway to the alternate universe where the Protodeviln came from.

which reminds me, why is that teacher using paperback books? don't they have something more advanced? like some holographic visual book?

I bet it tastes like chicken. "Have you ever wondered why everything tastes like chicken?"

some animated gif i've made... maybe some one can do better ones? esp the MQ firing?

PS > anybody notice when the monster fired its shots, the recoil was so strong it scratched quite abit of the armor off the Dulfim

Thanks for those gifs, they were fantastic.

  9. As long as it isn't the SDF-1, VF-4, and VF-1, it's perfectly fine. Macross isn't the only series with transformable fighter planes or spaceship. You can copyright a design, but not a concept. The VF-1 and SDF-1 are designs. Three-mode transformable fighter planes and transforming spaceships are concepts.

I wonder how the Destroid Monster design would fit into that. (I know what is in Frontier is not really a Destroid Monster, but still, if they wanted to be annoying.)

  10. No, it's the Neo United Nations Space Agency

I'm not a big fan of NUNS or the NUNS logo. It's kind of strange and not very iconic. A Macross series needs the UN SPACY kite.

It's like Transformers with autobotg203_transformers.jpg instead of autobot04_transformers.jpg

Yeah, but if they used the old UN Spacy logo in this series you would have morons posting footage of it on youtube and in other places claiming that it was NEW ROBOTECH and playing the robotech theme over the top. That sort of annoying crap does go on.

With the rights issues for Macross in dispute in the U.S. (No, I am not trying to open THAT can of worms), at least this series has a better chance of release in the U.S.

EDIT: Sorry, you can tell that I wrote this without checking the following posts that had already stated this.

  11. Hated how they changed the sound of the Gunpod, that was uncalled for. I saw a preview of the "updated" release and MEH!

Thats the problem as soon as any program is "Remastered" for Dolby 10.5 million with 200 speaker surround sound or whatever crap. It means that most of the time they go back and rip out all the original sound effects that you might happen to know and love and replace them with *special* (often very generic) sound effects that are designed to make your sub woofer make big noises.

The gunpods on robotech are a good example (they just sound like normal machine guns now don't they?), but don't worry, they also stuff around like this with "BIG" releases.

In the Special Edition DVD release of the movie "The Terminator", they remastered the sound. As a result they took out all of the original gunshot sound effects ( most of which were really distinctive and tried to reflect the nature of the different weapons being used) and replaced them with ones similar to what you hear in the remastered Robotech. It makes the movie quite unwatchable if you are really familiar with the original version.

Its a terrible practice and I am surprised that people don't complain about it more.
