  1. There you have it, this "movie" being treated with the respect it deserves. Taksraven
  2. Fighter mode looks more like a F-15 than an F-14. Not cool. Taksraven
  3. So essentially the project made it as far as some concept art (which counts for nothing) and then died. Probably for the best. Prefer the new anime version. Taksraven
  4. True. If only other writers and series creators took up such a noble position rather than going "Money money money, who cares about quality!" Taksraven
  5. Oh come on, next you will be saying that Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons is based on nerdy, overweight, pedantic SF and Comic fans. No way! :P Taksraven
  6. Anybody think that there will be any role for the Vajra in the Macross saga in the future beyond Frontier and the movie? Possible allies in the future? Or do people think that they had a total one-off appearance? Taksraven
  7. That always struck me as the goal of the colonisation project. It must be a strange version of humanity though because I don't think that there is any way that normal human birthrates can account for the recovery of the human population on earth, and then having the manpower to construct and populate such massive fleets. Even with large Zentradi population and interbreeding between the species there must still be a good deal of actual human cloning taking place to generate the number of people required to make the expansion work. Has this topic ever been covered in the Macross canon. And its also ironic that even with the colonisation AND expansion it also became clear in the last Frontier episode that the Vajra still had the potential to wipe out or enslave both the human and Zentradi races. (I thought that part was really cool) Taksraven
  8. Do we have any idea of the budget for the Shadow Chronicles, just out of interest. And for that matter, how much did it take overall to purchase the rights and create the original "Robotech" series? Taksraven
  9. Don't count the curse out too early. The film could still be a box-office stuff up. Taksraven
  10. Short answer courtesy of the Babylon 5 Wikipedia page.... On July 13, 2008, Straczynski revealed that he had no plans to continue The Lost Tales. He said that although the studio was interested in another disc, they wanted to budget the next installment similarly to the first. Citing his disappointment with the first release due to the low budget, Straczynski said he did not want to dilute Babylon 5's legacy with further sub-par stories. He stated that he would only return to the Babylon 5 universe if Warner Bros. wanted to do a large-budgeted cinema release.[63] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylon_5#The_Lost_Tales Long answer courtesy of the Man himself on the Usenet..... jmsatb5@aol.com 14 Jul 2008, 12:42 Newsgroups: rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5.moderated From: "jmsa...@aol.com" <jmsa...@aol.com> Date: Sun, 13 Jul 2008 18:42:18 -0700 (PDT) Local: Mon 14 Jul 2008 12:42 Subject: from jms: update Putting this on a recent thread here where it's more likely to be seen in a quick fashion.... Several things just to update folks. First, many thanks to all those who sent along research suggestions and offerings to be of assistance on the project I can't talk about. I've been swamped with deadlines and unable to reply to any of the public notes and private emails, but as soon as I can get my head above water, be assured that I'll be in touch with many of you. Second, as noted in the original thread before I hijacked it, yes, the plan at the moment is that I will be at Comic Con San Diego this year, primarily doing my thing on Thursday and Saturday afternoons. There is a *chance* -- mind you, it's just a slim chance but to be honorable I must mention it -- that a work situation *may* preclude my appearance there. Or it may not. I'll know more by the end of next week, and for now as far as I know, everything's on target for me to be at SDCC. If that changes, I'll be sure to let everyone know as far in advance as possible. One final note re: recent discussions on TMoS and more Lost Tales. B5:TLT was commissioned at a $2 million budget to, yet one more time, "test the waters" for B5. We did what we could with that, and that was that. As we did with Rangers, which also suffered from not having a lot of money because of concerns about "is there really a B5 audience?" Which is, of course, a foolish question from a studio that has never really understood what it has in B5. Of late, there have been more discussions from WB about doing more DVDs, again at a low cost, or a cable thing, again with minimal investment. So for the last few months, I've been giving this whole subject a lot of quiet thought. And I've come to a conclusion. B5 as a five year story stands beautifully on its own. If anything else is to be continued from that story, it should be something that adds to the legacy of B5, rather than subtracts from it. As well intentioned as Rangers and TLT were, as enticing as it was to return to those familiar waters, in the end I think they did more to subtract from the legacy than add to it. I don't regret having made them, because I needed to go through that to get to the point where I am now psychologically, but from where I sit now, I wouldn't make them again. So I've let everyone up here know that I'm not interested in doing any more low-budget DVDs. I'm not interested in doing any low-budget cable things or small computer games. The only thing I would be interested in doing regarding Babylon 5 from this point on is a full- featured, big-budget feature film. It's that or nothing. And if it's nothing, I'm totally cool with that because the original story stands on its own just fine. I'm not lobbying for it, I'm not asking fans to write in about it (nor should you) because such campaigns never really have much impact...that's simply the position I've taken up here. Lord knows I don't lack for other things to do these days. I'm busier on more prestige projects with terrific people and great film-makers than at any other time in my career. At the end of the day, for me, it's not just a matter of getting more B5. It's a matter of getting more *good* B5 that respects what came before it and doesn't have to compromise visually or in terms of action. The original show deserves better than that, the surviving cast members deserve better than that, and the fans who have supported it over the years definitely deserve better than that. A lot better. So I've drawn that line in the sand, and I'm happy living on whichever side of that line the universe puts me. Just thought you should know, 'cause it's your show too. jms http://groups.google.co.uk/group/rec.arts....047b5daf18b8524 Taksraven
  11. Yeah, going back to what started this tangent, it would look like event horizon if they did it now. Taksraven
  12. Ugh, have you seen her tats, eeewwwww. Taksraven
  13. If the situation is resolved that "easily", both sides have done a good job. Taksraven
  14. Please do post some. Want to get there myself some day. Taksraven
  15. Dont forget Doctor Who, Battle of the Planets (which was originally on channel 10 before being shown by the ABC, weird), and STAR BLAZERS. I think that I heard back during the 1990's that some parents group organised to hassle Australian television networks about violent cartoons being broadcast in early morning childrens timeslots. As a result Robotech was not shown again and I think that the ABC is supposed to have promised that it would never show "violent" cartoons such as BOTP and Star Blazers again. Need confirmation of this tho.... Taksraven
  16. Ok, thats fair enough, but don't forget that not all of us have the ADV release. For the benefit of those who do not have the ADV release can you fill us in to any reason they may give as to why the series was cut short? I just found this on Wikipedia.... Southern Cross was the least successful of the Super Dimensional banner and was actually cancelled due to low ratings, forcing the scriptwriters to hastily conclude the series. This section, however, is not referenced, so like much info on Wikipedia should be taken with a grain of salt. Taksraven
  17. I take it you mean that it will be released in the US on that date. It came out in the UK last year. http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=66689 It was a strange show. Very kiddy-like until the last few episodes in which most of the cast was brutally wiped out. Taksraven
  18. Yes, exactly right...... A-HA! The OTHER big mystery of the series. Not having seen Danger Man I don't know if I am that qualified to give an answer myself but I think that I read somewhere that there certainly were some clues to suggest that he WAS John Drake. The fact that he was never really given a proper name other than Number Six would seem to indicate that was the case too. Taksraven
  19. I would dispute the claim that The Black Hole is a just-for-kids film. Especially with the fate that Anthony Perkins character meets. Taksraven
  20. Yeah, i always thought that statement at the start of nearly every episode was a very big & cool clue. Taksraven
  21. I second that. So much other stuff they need to put out, including some mixes & remixes of the instrumental tracks that were cool. Taksraven
  22. one of the stories i heard about southern cross was that it was supposed to be a much longer series but it was cut short due to poor rating and/or low budget. Anybody know if there is any truth in this story? Taksraven
  23. So who do you think number one really was? Taksraven
  24. Only a person who had never seen the prisoner could make such a flippant remark about this legends tragic death! Get thyself to a videoshop & get up to date with this classic series. It did more with 17 episodes than bsg did with 4 seasons! Taksraven
