  1. 1/60? Coffee table or lawn ornament -- as in, as a coffee table or a lawn ornament.
  2. Where are you going to park that 1/48 Monster?

yeah well.. hindsight's always a bit easier. Legacy issues abound in all industries. Excrement happens.
  4. Everytime I see that costume, I'm reminded not of a cat but of Mickey Mouse. Sheez. The original Catwoman costume (worn by IIRC Michelle Phieffer) wasn't the greatest but was much better, IMO, than this.. uhm, scratching post costume. EDIT: Figured out what bugged me. Where's the darn cat's tail?

Dri: Product realisation based on conceptual artwork can go both ways. Big West might have bulked at how the redesigned gunpod looked like, but in this case it might have bulked at how the Armoured Valkyrie looked without the slip-overs. I think it's really not possible to achieve an asethetically pleasing look without the use of the slip-overs -- anime magic can make the anime Armoured Valkyrie look good without slip-overs, but plastic-and-metal can't benefit from that. Similarly, the crotch armour is also significantly different from the anime lineart. But sure as heck there's no way to cramp a long slender Yamato 1/60 nose into the blocky lineart crotch armour. Big West probably realises that and let things go a bit.
  6. Building from previous replies: Top Shelf: Gunbuster something most likely NOT from Gundam (at best a SD Zaku I think but not likely) Akazukin Cha Cha Not enough to ID Marmalade Boy? Dai-con Bunny Girl Second Shelf: Gunhed B-ko Godzilla Natsumi and Mirai (baby) from Mama is a Fourth Grader. Nagisa from I'll Make a Habit of It Bottom Shelf: Looks like uhm what's the show.. Dunbine? Looks like an Appleseed bike/ Denuan but not sure. No idea King Ghidorah IIRC someone from Inuyusha? Posters: Eva Poster No idea No idea EDIT: Incorporated Mislovrit's inputs.

    1:60 GBP-1 !?

Uhm, I hope you guys have read through the thread. As of this time the GBP will be bundled with a 1J at an unspecified price, release is set at Summer '04. I too hope that the GBP will be released seperately, but for the 1/60 line it is out-of-character for Yamato to do this. EDIT: Grammer
  8. With a name like yours and this posting in this thread, it's hard not to think you are deliberately stirring the waters. Normally I won't bother with these threads, but when you said Robotech is taking off, I almost fell out of my chair laughing. If Robotech is taking off, it must be on one damn long runway.. Macross took off and spawned at least 1 additional TV series and 3 OVAs -- at least -- and if it is dying down now it has at least had transcended its orgins. We've seen proof of improvements, at least. Robotech? Ever since the initial series there's been nothing but fairly miserable showing. Sentinels, a good concept, flopped; Robotech 3000 is less than impressive. Only recently had HG bring out additional products like Battlecry and the MPC, and only under direct competition. And it has never explored beyond the initial series successfully. It took them at least 15 years to take off? Long runway man. HG is what future? For the last 15 or 20 years I have heard nothing of new Robotech series, few extension to the novel lines -- and all of them are non-continuity, AFAIK -- even fewer toys. If HG is the future their track record indicates something substantially less than a bright future.. Maybe Robotech is taking off; if it does that's good. The story had potential and it should deviate from the Macross story. However, for the last 15 years HG just failed to exploit the potential, and with that kind of track record I do not forsee -- but also do not write off the possibility -- that HG can deliver growth to the story. I know I'm probably talking to a deaf post. Often, people who post like you did simply won't want to listen to a differing opinion. Still, I've done my part..
  9. Not so much as casting the head but more of modding the 1/48 VF-1A head to be of a YF-1R head. Proportion would be more accurate that way, and IIRC, we do have a few 1/48 Hikaru-1As which were busted up. After we modded the head, we can cast it. Personally, I dislike the 1R head design for aesthetic reasons. In simpler English, I find it ugly. But it really doesn't hurt to do that and it is rather creative in a way.. as an example of what creativity can do, I can point to the Thunder Hummer. I got some rope here.. anyone in need of rope for a lynching?
  10. Think this only occurs if the picture is wider than the layout of the board. Rule of thumb, I believe, is no wider than 600 pixels.. that's about max without distortion. I've stuck fairly close to this and hadn't had the problem mentioned for my pics.
  11. No problem. Crab..? CRAB??? I think Cima must be turning over in her gra... uhm, right, she doesn't have a grave... a bit hard there. :D
  12. Looks interesting but I have some doubts about the game rules. While the background is essential, the rules are what will make or break the product. As it is, this has very similar lines to Gear Krieg and may get confused easily.. the use of large miniatures also indicate strong RPG influences which is both good and bad -- traditional table top gaming might be a tad more difficult unless they intend to run in two scales (say, 1/24 for RPG and 28mm for tabletop gaming..).

Eh? The GBP boosters aren't using the FAST connecting points?
  14. In all honesty the GFF Gerbera looks better. Here are some pics of mine: Full Frontal: This is a full frontal shot of the GFF Gerbera. a little out of focus but you can see the general sense of the toy. The colours are about as close to the actual as I can but digital photography has a nasty habit of exaggerating colours. I really need to work on the focussing... As you can see, the white and red markings make it look rather good IMO. Left 3/4: Compare this pic with the one JR posted, and you can see major differences -- one, the legs are longer and slimmer, and some of the sexy curves are still there. Another is that the beam MG is retained instead of the wimpy-looking beam rifle. Overall I do like this Kai version over the balloonish look of the original... And lastly: A Sazabi-style head shot!

Hey, don't lay all the blame on the people who are willing to state their negative opinions. I've seen situations on this board where a factual description of the problem is raised and all the positive supporters lambast the naysayers for daring to say bad things about the product. This is particularly true of the 1/48 series. Sometimes it's just a case of one guy saying, "Hey, I think the proportion looks a bit off, maybe I'll reconsider buying it" and another responding hotly "Hey Yamato-hater if you don't like it don't buy it! I like it and I'll buy it! Neyh Neyh Neyh." So it's not just the naysayers (though certainly they exist), but also a problem with the Yamato/ Bandai/ Whatever Defenders... Going OT a bit, let's take a look at things. A year ago, we are so grateful to Yamato for coming into a market dominated by Bandai and screwed over by HG that Yamato could do no wrong. Yamato did deliver a high-quality product but somewhere in the middle (around the time the 1/48 came out) some hiccups occured which irritated some members here, and show that Yamato could make mistakes. So nowadays we are a bit more cautious when viewing Yamato products, which IMO is a good thing for both consumer and company -- there is an implicit check and balance in the whole thing. Yamato won't try to force bad products down our throats because we won't accept it, and we keep Yamato honest in this aspect. I think the major thing we have to keep in mind is that there's really nothing inherently wrong with having an opinion that is in the mainstream. We can work on the presentation for sure, but the basic thing is to be willing to accept the fact that somewhere out there someone is going to disagree with you. Sure, I think Yamato makes good products, but all that does to me is to make me examine any Yamato product to spot the problems AND to decide whether I can live with them if I purchase the product. That way I won't bitch and moan about things here after I bought the item.
  16. Every time I see this pic, I had to fight the urge to laugh. The inside joke to this which some of you may not realise is that the kanji, when taken in Chinese, can be translated as "abnormal". Thus, instead of "Emergency Cock", I was reading "Abnormal Cock"....... :D
  17. Interesting to know. Thanks for sharing! I do like the red/ white markings, but overall the poor fit of the GT parts bothers me quite badly.
  18. Sigh. Be nice to newbies... Let's just lock and move on.

Analysis of Yamato 1/60 GBP armour: Backpack: Probably using the existing FAST pack holes. Implications: CFs cannot take this GBP armour, but we can put it on a 1S and Max/ Miriya. Also, possibility is that of a Strike GBP, though you might need to cobble parts from a Strike and a GBP together for that. Chestplate: I'm guessing it uses the cockpit/ heatshield to hook up. Good and bad -- good in that it's utilizing an inherent design, bad because the 1D won't be able to use this armour then. Also, it would probably look out of place on the Max/ Miriya, who has coloured noses. Can't confirm this as we don't have a 3/4 overhead shot to see the upper areas. Shoulders: As EXO says, looks to be shoulder inserts. Mobility may be affected but I think it's a practical solution to a difficult problem. Missiles looks to be non-removable -- generally speaking applies to all missiles for the 1/60. Arms: Looks to be slip-overs and probably includes the hands as a set. Incidentally, this may mean the GBP cannot use a gunpod, (a ) because no gunpod-wielding hands, and (b ) the arm armour may make holding the gunpod difficult. Crotch: Looks different from lineart but a creative and nice approach to covering up the nose. Hips: Looks to be slip-overs but the size will probably restrict waist rotation. Don't expect too much posability. Looks like the upper thighs will be affected somewhat too. Legs: Looks like we sacrifice the lower leg twist to get this armour. I don't think there will be any mobility there. Foot swivel still looks good so you can probably get a straight-line walking pose there. Overall: Display piece, not toy. You will probably have to leave it in the pose here, with possibly some small waist twist and arm motion, but not much -- remember the inherent shoulder polycap strength of the 1/60 isn't the highest and the additional weight may cause the arms to droop. On the upside, this will be quite stable. The diecast legs plus additional leg armour should make this quite heavy and hence stable.

Cropped, brightened and resized for more details.
  21. Well, as with any GFF piece, the details are great -- lots of things actually, and the sculpt is excellent. If you are using for display only, it's great. But due to it's interchangable nature, a lot of Gerbera parts aren't as secure as I would have liked it.. the inner arm parts are particularly offensive and drops off easily, the peg of the right hand on mine doesn't extend sufficiently into the wrist joint so it had a problem holding the beam MG, and the general posability isn't the greatest in the world. Also, it's not really anime-accurate, since it's supposed to be able to switch between a GP and a GT. So you end up with a Red and White GT instead of the Cima-red type in the show. That's not too bad on its own because it really looks good this way. Unfortunately the colour used on the red part stains the white portions after a while so it can get a bit unsightly. Aside from these it's a fairly good display piece if you don't intend to play or repose too much. As an indicator, I got mine on my bookcase in the GP mode, while the GFF near my PC monitor is the Barzam. Your mileage may vary, of course. Maybe I just got a bad one.
  22. GFF Gerbera? As in the GP04/ Gerbera set? Great Display. Lousy toy.

Direct Translation on the card: "MACROSS 1/60 3-stage Transformation VF-1J Armoured Valkyrie (Price) Not Fixed 2004 Summer Release" EDIT: ^---- Didn't even need Japanese. Chinese was 90% sufficient. Yes, it's a bundle (because otherwise it would have read GBP armour instead of Armoured Valkyrie). Yes, the underlying 1J should be transformable. Yes, it's going to be frickin' expensive ('cos they haven't decided on the price yet..). And yes, it's going to release next year, which gives us some time to save up. Lucky I didn't get the 1/60 Super-1J previously...
  25. The timing of this thread could have been better. Nothing against Arnold the actor here -- I liked some of his movies and I think (from media reports) he's an okay person. If nothing else, his movies tend to be entertaining for the sheer *boom* factor. I would suggest locking this thread for 72 hours and releasing it at the end of the week (and punting it back up to the front page). At that time I believe we can stop reading too much into Agent One's intent and discuss Arnold the man here.
