Akai Koudan Zillion & The Acquisition of a Grail
RavenHawk replied to Valkyrie Hunter D's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't have any Figma figures, but I'd say that Sentinel Ray is just a little too big. Maybe with some patience, if I posed him a bit more and tilted the control panel forward, it wouldn't look as bad. -
Akai Koudan Zillion & The Acquisition of a Grail
RavenHawk replied to Valkyrie Hunter D's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Mine shipped from Best Buy on Thursday. I think it's stopping for coffee at every post office on the way, because it is still scheduled to arrive on release day, Tuesday. -
I had heard that too though, having recently rewatched Southern Cross (figured I'd give it another chance after many years... still didn't do much for me), I just don't really see the horses fitting in. Still, a lot of the Sentinels concept art (like the walking searchlights) was in Southern Cross. Nothing of this stuff in the limited Southern Cross stuff in the Imai files, though.

Robotech and REMIX by Titan Comics
RavenHawk replied to Old_Nash's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Apologies in advance if this has already been discussed, and I didn't find the conversation, but: I just picked up the Titan editions of the Macross Archives volumes 1 & 2 (found them for a decent deal). I loved these comics as a kid, lost the handful I had in a flood some time back, and hope that, if I endorsed the sales of the early editions then there would be a better chance of getting the New Gen and Sentinels ones. I cracked open the first volume today at lunch, and saw this: Macross Archives 3: 11/18 Sentinels Archives 1: 2/19 Sentinels Archives 2: 5/19 Sentinels Archives 3: 8/19 Sentinels Archives 4: 11/19 Does anyone know if there has been any word on what the plan is? Are they skipping Masters and New Gen entirely, or are they thinking that chronologically they need to get through all of Sentinels before they start releasing those? The motorcycle freak in me mainly wants New Gen and Invid War...- 1934 replies

I remembered some mecha concept art on the Sentinels disc of the old Robotech dvd release, so I decided to check it out again. Some of this was in the Robotech Art 3 book, but most was not. Let's see... First we have the GMU, which likely later became the Land Carrid: Then we have the Prototype Cyclone... No other artwork of that. Then a motorcycle which I had forgotten about. This is kind of cool, and the front and rear view are VERY Aramaki-esque. Predecessor to the Riding Cepter? Wait, I don't remember seeing that transformation diagram before. So, the rider position changes to face the other way... and sits in that seat... that means that this motorcycle is more along the lines of the size of a car? Did someone just tell a Tatsunoko artist "Draw me a motorcycle that turns into a gun platform"? Moving on... So the transformed motorcycle attaches to a robotic horse... I vaguely remember that horse from the books, but that horse was huge in the books. If that motorcycle is the size of a car, then this horse is around the size of... a Great Dane? Wait, there's more... Ok... So now the horse is the size of a small-to-medium-size car... Ok, so this would make the motorcycle the size of a large SUV or truck from some art of the horse, and a compact car from the transformation... I don't think I believe the artists had a transformation in mind anymore (not that I was convinced that they did to begin with, but I was optimistic). Now I think the artists were basically just doing artistic free association, making random sketches based on often contradictory suggestions.

Consolidated Megazone 23 Toy/Model Thread for 2017-2018
RavenHawk replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Thank you. I'm still holding out hope of finding a surprise deal on eBay for a new-ish one. They seem to go for around $200 lately, which I think is absolutely ridiculous. I got my metallic one, with the complete box set (box, cd, game/dvd disc, and book), all in pristine condition, for $80 about 6 months ago.- 821 replies

Consolidated Megazone 23 Toy/Model Thread for 2017-2018
RavenHawk replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, it really is. Not banged up or anything, just floppy. Nice pic, btw. The only one I'm missing now is the regular, original Garland (I have the metallic, Proto, factory color, and now Army color).- 821 replies

Akai Koudan Zillion & The Acquisition of a Grail
RavenHawk replied to Valkyrie Hunter D's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Since my "new" Yamato Army Color Garland just came in, I thought I'd post some pics to compare the size of the Zillion Tri-Charger to the Arcadia and Yamato Garlands. You really don't appreciate how big this toy is until you have it in hand. (Sorry, too lazy to put the figure in in Armolator mode, and always nervous about those helmet connections; also forgot to extend the fists) For a 30 year old toy, it really holds up pretty decently. -
Consolidated Megazone 23 Toy/Model Thread for 2017-2018
RavenHawk replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I just picked up a "new" (or so it was listed; in reality, heavily used) Army Color Yamato Garland off of eBay. Took some pics with it to compare sizes to the Zillion Tri-Charger (posted in the Zillion thread) and... wow, I had completely forgotten what I floppy mess that toy could be. (In fairness, 2 of my other 4 Yamato Garlands are pretty solid). It really makes me appreciate what a solid, quality product the Arcadia Garland is even more.- 821 replies

Bubblegum Crisis OVA Blu-ray Direct Release
RavenHawk replied to JetJockey's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The Amazon reviews are a bit mixed. Anyone on here check it out yet? -
I wasn't a fan of the Megahouse sets. I got both Beagles (well, the Toynami versions), and I got one Megahouse and one CMs. I didn't like the Megahouse, but I liked the CMs, so continued collecting the CMs. I'm glad I did because, in addition to being a more complete set, I love the way they look next to the Yamato BGC motoslaves and the Arcadia Garland.

Thanks for posting these high res images. Unfortunately, it seems like these shots, in different resolutions, are the only ones out there (including being used on products).- 134 replies

Shoji Kawamori's Juushinki PANDORA (Spring 2018)
RavenHawk replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Not a perfect show, but I enjoyed the first 13 episodes a lot. Looking forward to the rest of the series, since I suspect it'll be one of those where the last few episodes are the big pay off.- 134 replies

Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru GQuuuuuuX
RavenHawk replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just came across it and started on the first episode. This is actually my first Gundam (somehow I never got around to it... maybe it's the sheer amount of it out there that always put it on the backburner) but I'm enjoying it so far.- 4010 replies

Bubblegum Crisis OVA Blu-ray Direct Release
RavenHawk replied to JetJockey's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Looks like this comes out today: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D3JT8V2 Is anyone picking it up? I'm very tempted to, but still concerned about 8 eps on a single disc. -

Shoji Kawamori's Juushinki PANDORA (Spring 2018)
RavenHawk replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I agree about the cliche. I think he is meant to be one of those geniuses that is so focused on higher thinking that he can't remember basic things. As touched upon in the latter of the first 13 episodes, I think we're also supposed to see him as someone who simply never had any interest or care for common socializing, so never learned how to go about it. Now merchandise? Yes, I keep looking, and keep finding nothing of note (only folders, keychains, etc., but no toys or models of mecha).- 134 replies

Yeah, I'm definitely holding out for Sentinel on this one. I like the look of the prototype, even if it isn't to everyone's taste.

Shoji Kawamori's Juushinki PANDORA (Spring 2018)
RavenHawk replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The car and motorcycle mechs are what got my attention and really sold me on it. Loved it every time they were on screen. The designs just really appeal to me. As to whether the 3 modes were necessary... well, I agree with you, they were a bit forced (especially with the VTOL). That said, since this is the guy that, to my knowledge, basically created the idea of mechs having three modes like this, well, I'm willing to cut some slack for him. Otherwise, I finished the 13 episodes available here and enjoyed them. I'd say it's in the top half of the anime that I've watched this year. Not perfect, and a lot of stuff that didn't work for me (a good amount of the metaphysical stuff, and the invader-of-the-week format in some episodes), but I still enjoyed it. Since this is only the first half of the show, and a lot of anime tends to take a while to really pick up, I'm looking forward to seeing the next 13.- 134 replies

Shoji Kawamori's Juushinki PANDORA (Spring 2018)
RavenHawk replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm not aware of any specific toy company supporting it. The only merchandise that seems to be out there ( as seen here on the official website: http://www.project-pandora.jp/wp/goods/ ) is pretty random. The only real TOYS that I've been able to find, after a good bit of searching, is a figure of Queenie from Wonder Fest made by Medicos. I still remember my naivete when the first live action TF movie was coming out... "Well, if they're doing CGI, then they can make sure that all of the parts really move, and everything is in scale..." I have done a TON of looking online, and those appear to be just about literally the only pics of the mecha out there at all (other than some screen grabs). Like I said above, I'm not aware of anyone making toys for this. If anyone does, I assume it might be models from someone like Kotobukiya. Admittedly, I'm biased, since I've become a huge fan of their kits in recent months, but it does seem to line up with some of their lines (like the Gigantic Arms and Frame Arms series, and their licensed kits for Armored Core, Phantasy Star, Majestic Prince, Full Metal Panic!, Super Robot Wars, Muv Luv Alternative, Ghost in the Shell, Metal Gear Solid, Knights of Sidonia, and especially Xenoblade).- 134 replies

Shoji Kawamori's Juushinki PANDORA (Spring 2018)
RavenHawk replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If you watched it on Netflix, then yes. The show is 26 episodes (all released in Japan now, I think, or maybe one still to go), but Netflix USA is splitting it up into two 13 episode "seasons".- 134 replies
