Oh really? Because according to this post frontier movie does have eng subs : http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=40402&p=1239940
He's referring to the Frontier TV series.

Again, thanks for your help. :-)Each of them is a different version of the movie. 00000.MPLS is one second longer because it includes an opening text scroll, while 00001.MPLS is the "theatrical" version with no text scroll. I believe I synched the subs to the slightly longer version, although there's no translation for the text scroll in them. In case the timing is off, try the other version.

Not that I wouldn't be awestruck regardless, but if I was any kind of illustrator or artist I'd be totally freaking out to be able to talk with him.

I was referring to aircraft in general. But, it wouldn't be far fetched to show jets in a WWII movie since jet aircraft saw service before the end of WWII to be sure. They had jets skimming the water in WW2 movies??!!
All I'm saying is the idea of flying low over the water wasn't a novel concept when Macross was created. So, while Kawamori created a lot of new and interesting ideas and designs that wasn't one of them.
And tactically speaking that was a dumb thing to do when going head to head in a dogfight with the enemy. Perhaps with the fictional thrust to weight ratios of VF-1 aircraft it's not as critical to have the high ground so to speak, but generally speaking it's better to attack from above.
Though, it was a cool scene nonetheless, and a favorite of mine and many others I'm sure.

Currently eating watermelon in front of Shoji Kawamori actually. Well, this is kinda awkward f^_^ lol
What, no pineapple salad available?

I didn't think you were being trollish. By today's standards those figures suck big time, but it's the best we've got so far since the old Matchbox figures. So I'll probably buy them if they aren't way overpriced. Thanks guys. Really appreciate it. To be honest, I'm no expert with these whole BigWest/HarmonyGold things even though I read most of the things posted. I always get lost in all those legal technicalities. The only point I'm asking is that since there's good quality figures out there to check and research and with the recent advance technology on sculpting and 3D stuff, how come they still can't make any decent figures?
Anyways, if this is still too 'sensitive' for others to answer here, just reply via PM. Thanks!

Every time I see that scene of J.J.'s X-Wings flying low over the water I think about how Kawamori did it first with valks in DYRL.
I'm sure I've seen it done in WWII movies. Just saying.

Liking armored Gerwalk mode after seeing some of the posted pics. I managed to get the shoulder armor on, but I had to keep the wings swept all the way back. It also limits the arm movement a great deal. Still looks hella cool, though.
If only there was a way to have some foot articulation with the foot covers you could get some better poses.

You can use these subs, which I timed to the Blu-ray. And yes, you can load them while playing the BD with VLC, assuming you have AnyDVD or another decrypting software running. Just click on "Subtitles", and then on "Add Subtitle File". I prefer Media Player Classic Home Cinema, though.
Thanks a million! I'll try it out. Also, for pointing me towards MPC-HC. Seems a lot simpler to use.
Edit: One more thing. As you may know playing it while running AnyDVD gets rid of the menu and simply plays the movie. I notice 2 video files 00000.MPLS(1:55:03) and 00001.MPLS(1:55:02) I recall the DVD had 2 as well one "HD" and the other not. What are the 2 files on the Blu-ray? I couldn't quickly tell the difference when watching a bit of both files.

Better grab the one from Mandarake now. If not, there's always the one from Nippon-Yasan. Good luck!
I'm the guy that got the 2nd to last.
-
Managed to snag one - total cost 22680 + 2490 ship + 1134 handling charge - 26304 so not bad IMO. Originally there were six, then four... The moment they hit Macrossworld, gone. I think there might be one left now.
Now there's none.

I don't think VLC can play commercial BDs unless it is a bootleg with no encryption.
Yeah, not by itself. I had to download a specific version and a special codec that works with that version of VLC. Then I still need to have AnyDVD running while I watch. Just wasn't sure if someone put out a subtitle file that maybe I can run while watching the BD.

The customs office guy is probably having too much fun transforming it and swooshing it around. He probably wasn't able to order one himself.

I just want to say playability with these vs. perfect transformation shouldn't be underrated. I just tried to transform my VF-17S for the first time the other night. I was thinking it would be pretty straight forward given the nature of the design. I tell you I was nervous and sh..ing bricks thinking I was going to break something or ding a sharp edge/point the entire time. I was glad to finally get it back in fighter mode. Not a particularly enjoyable experience.
I hope they make everything HMR over time. Then I can actually play with my toys from time to time.

Question is there a way to run a sub file in VLC player while watching a blu-ray in VLC player? In other words is it always necessary to rip the video then re-author it with a sub track?
-
No, because the box set came out AFTER the individual movie releases.
Duh! That makes sense. I was just assuming super hyper ultimate boxsets come out first before the individual releases. I didn't even think to check the release dates on the webpage. My mistake.
-
Don't know. I got mine from Amiami back when it was first released. I had 2nd thoughts because the price was so high. But, I felt better when I actually received it and saw how nice the entire set was. It has 2 full sized art books not the little handbooks you normally get. There isn't much choice considering there's no localizations for Macross.
The thing I want to bring up is wouldn't the individual movie releases simply be the same actual Blu-ray disks as the box set? That is to say, wouldn't they also have subtitles if the original box set had subtitles?
-
And a glorious set it is. Looks like it's got a good discount on Amazon. It was worth the regular price, so the discount is a no brainer. That is, if you like the movies.

I wouldn't mind some scenes where, perhaps, they run out of ammo and have to resort to some melee weapons combat. But, I agree this should not be the typical scenario. Maybe something sprinkled in here and there.

Cool. Pre-ordered one. What size are these BTW?

I think I'm going to display my VF-1J in Gerwalk mode as well. For some reason I don't display anything in Gerwalk. Not sure why I don't. I like all 3 modes just fine. But seeing pics of it with armor looks really good to me.

If I had to choose a Boba Fett type equivalent in Macross I would choose Milia. Kamjin was really just a big douche rather than a warrior with a coolness factor.I think the glaug may turn out even harder to get a pre order, unless they raise the production amounts. The glaug is the macross equivalent to boba fett from star wars or chars zaku from gundam or whatever from whatever.
But, I would think the Glaug will be sold quickly simply because the design is cool and there's never much emphasis to make toys of it, so I personally am chomping at the bit to buy it.

I like the look of them in those outfits best. Those are some fine collectables you have there. I'm assuming their expressions are in line with the type of dolls that they are. Personally it would look even nicer IMO with more of a smile.
