  1. I think it showed HG was shooting low, so to speak. They either failed to secure, or didn't bother with, a mass market approach. Toynami is all well and good for high end toys, but its not what brings in new fans. I would have thought SOMEBODY out there in Toy Land would have thought that mass produced toys of Robotech might be a good deal. I think WB is waiting to scarf up every last piece of Robotech it can. Talk has been that if Palladium either loses or drops the license, it would default to WB.
  2. Saw it last Friday. Fairly enjoyable, even with the ridiculous Hollywood elements added in (M1919 .30 cal machinegun being used like a more modern Squad Automatic Weapon). The spot-on accuracy of the War propaganda was cringe worthy but I always believe whitewashing history does a disservice to people.
  3. Umm, I don't know of too many fans who thought that stunt was anything BUT stupid. I do know quite a few denounced it as well.
  4. Ah, but Tolkien does tell us what kind of warfare the peoples of Middle-Earth engaged in. The shield wall was a favoured tactic. The use of both long swords and short stabbing swords (Dunedain Eket), spear, javelin/dart, long knife and bow are prevalent throughout. The best armour of any people in Middle-Earth is the matchless mail of the Dwarves. This is basically Heroic Saga stuff, not Renaissance plate armour, jousting and/or Florentine street fencing. - JRR Tolkien
  5. Exactly. That was one of the things I liked about Kingdom of Heaven. The Lord of the Rings should have looked like that in more ways than one (the distressing amount of plate armour grated on my nerves). I guess it depends upon your level of tolerance. I hate seeing Heroic Saga myths/stories that have the characters using Crusader Knight's Arming Swords (Cross-shaped, which was to show a Knight's devotion to Christ) instead of Migration and/or Viking Era Long Swords. The more I began studying The Migration Era, the more I found I had little tolerance for stuff like Excalibur or even The 13th Warrior. The usual answer is 'people don't know any better, so what?' which basically answers the question. If people DON'T know any better, then WHAT is wrong with at least attempting to LOOK proper? Certainly not money, since there ARE weapon/armour prop smiths out there that will reproduce the stuff necessary.
  6. Well, in point of fact, its supposed to be 'the old world' (Europe-Africa-Asia) set in a mythical Antediluvian time. Heh...
  7. I'm tired of the whole 'Dual Wielding Sword' meme that has cropped up. Middle-Earth isn't swords & sorcery and/or planetary romance. Its mytho-historic meaning it should be more like Beowulf and less like Fafhrd and The Grey Mouser.
  8. Yea, but its not ACTUALLY Capitalism. Too many people today confuse Corporatism (aka Soft Fascism) with laissez-faire Capitalism. That is one of my complaints about the cartoon/franchise. It doesn't help that too many people with agendas use the term 'Free Market' to describe something that is anything BUT a Free Market.
  9. Eh, just to quibble for a moment. Its CORPORATIONS that don't (generally) give a rat's @ss about the environment, not individuals. That's because they are given a legal shield that prevents their shareholders from being held accountable for their actions. It also doesn't help that there are few places (if any left in the modern world) that respect private property...which means you can dispose of your property as you see fit but you do not have carte blanche to pollute your neighbor's air/water/land.
  10. I do so love the cartoonish and utterly stupid potrayals such as (per the Wikipedia): Hah. Uncontrolled Corporatism, perhaps. Capitalism? Not even remotely close. Yea, I doubt the new incarnation will be any better than the previous one. I also find irony in the idea of the massive promotions that will come with this, toys, comics et al. Nothing like propaganda to make the rugrats happy.
  11. Its gotta be Thorin at Nanduhirion, unless PJ is basically throwing the entire backstory out of the window. Since Azog is in it, the opening probably IS the conclusion of the War of the Orcs and Dwarves. Thorin Oakenshield would be 53 in the battle (quite young for one of the Khazad to go off to war). Still not as young as Dain Ironfoot who beheaded Azog at the tender age of 32 at the end of the battle.
  12. No, its because I can't play well with others when they get on a call-in show about Robotech and claim something I didn't claim. I don't take attempted public smearing very well. That's why I couldn't post for a long time. Which again goes back to why certain people care when they claim they don't?
  13. Maybe. Question is why the F*CK any of YOU care? That has never quite been explained to me sufficiently.
  14. I've always been partial to this painting of Thorin (by Angelo Montanini). I can only assume that they have Thorin as he was at Azanulbizar (with Orcrist) since he most certainly was not that young.
  15. As a matter of fact, yes. As opposed to what? Run to the moderators because someone said something mean to me on the internet? Hope springs eternal.
  16. Cause? Despite what certain people on this website actually believe, this is hardly my cause. Its a hobby. Something to pass the time. By far and away it is not my cause. There are far more important things in the world than my hobby.
  17. Uhhh..is it me or does something look suitably WRONG with Orcrist (assuming that is Orcrist)? It is supposed be the mate to the Glamdring they gave Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings.
  18. Hah. Go away little boy. I've gotten insults far worse than anything YOU can dream up.
  19. Bifur, Bofur and Bombur I believe were Broadbeam Dwarves, whose people originally settled in Beleriand during the 1st Age. Its likely their home city was Belegost.
  20. That's an opinion and opinions are like @ssholes. Everyone has one.
